We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - crewahl (Charlie)

Today's Topic: When health interferes. How have you done, weight/diet/program, when you’ve had procedures/surgeries, etc.?

When I had my bypass, in 2017, I was up 13# the day after I got home. Took a little over 2 weeks to ratchet that down. Don't remember my mind set then, but hope I don't have that much gain from my upcoming back surgery. Plan (for now) is to just go right back to what I am doing now.
My trepidation, on weight, is that they said I can't do much for 2 weeks, post-op. Hopefully, I can resume my walking, if not my stretches, etc. I do find that if I don't get some activity (walking, stretching, and minor lifting), I don't lose, but can gain.
Any insights to share?0 -
I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2012. I’d been maintaining about 5 1/2 years at that point. And I kept on maintaining right through the treatments.
Being at a healthy weight helped my attitude a lot. It helped that even though I had just been diagnosed with cancer, I thought of myself as a healthy person. Also that to the extent possible, I could take responsibility for my health. I could follow through with things that were good for me.
