WELCOME to all walkers!
The October Walk Challenge starts tomorrow, so now is the time to be thinking about our new monthly challenge goals!
Having Leslie's, or other walking DVDs, to pop in the player can be a great addition to walking outdoors in the crisp cool days of Autumn. For those who are enjoying the onset of cooler weather, walking or hiking outdoors might well continue to be a pleasant alternative to the DVDs. For those of us who live where high temperatures outdoors could easily remain for another month or so, the DVDs are awesome when it is impossible to get up with the sun to squeeze in a quick, cooler walk early in the morning.
How about where you live... are the leaves ππ falling? Are the cold fronts trying to move in already?? Or will summer hang on for as long as possible? Whatever it is for you, enjoy and get your walk on!!!
This group is open to any and all walkers πββοΈπΆββοΈ, however you get your walk in. There may be times when walking is not always an option for a number of reasons, so feel free to substitute other forms of exercise when needed, or for a change in routine.
We are a happy, supportive group, and I promise that joining this month's walk challenge will motivate, challenge, as well as inspire you, as you in turn will inspire others! So come on in and join us!
Whenever you are posting what you have accomplished please remember to also share any strength training or other types of workouts that you are doing. We all benefit greatly by learning from one another and getting new ideas. And it is such an encouragement to read each others' posts.
The goal that you choose is your own personal goal, whatever you would like to accomplish during October.
If you find this group in the middle of the month it truly doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you hope to accomplish during the remaining days of this month. It is never too late to join in, you are always welcome!
This is also the month when we can enjoy all things 'pumpkin' ..... as well as all of the other wonderful sights, scents, and yummy tastes of autumn
As always, together, we can do this,

The leaves are changing colors and I'm already very engaged in all things pumpkin here.
Goals for this month include continuing my regular walking and making ab work and weights part of my week at least 3 days a week in some combo. The walk at home really helps make this more accessible for me. I also hope to do some jogging outdoors when the weather is OK as soon I'll be inside for winter 100 percent of the time.
Last month I had good intentions cutting back on coffee and I was successful a few days but not many. This month I'm hopeful my 3 cups of coffee a day can morph into 12 oz of coffee and 24 oz non dairy milk which is an important calcium source for me.
Today we got some bad news about my pup and while he's not gone yet it has definitely influenced my walking outside the last few months. I don't regret staying in with him more as he couldn't walk but I see now that was a bit of an invisible hurdle for me... any time I tried to take him he pooped out quickly and it was frustrating for both of us. I was planning to start the month with 4 miles but we're going to do a quiet pasta dinner and movie as a family instead I think. If my anxiety gets me I still might walk later but I'm committed to giving myself rest a few days weekly when my body says not to push.
My new fit bit arrived so I plan to set that up tonight. Here's to celebrating our blessings and enjoying all the healthy days with loved ones (humans and fur babies) in our lives!
Happy October everyone3 -
@mypinkbikini I'm sorry about the bad news you received about your pup π. The quiet pasta dinner and a movie sounds very nice. Enjoy! Deciding whether to push the exercise or to recover/ rest is not always easyπ€. Yay for your new Fitbit arriving!

My goal for this month will once again be to keep moving as much as possible by using the rebounder & the Gazelle, walking indoors and sometimes outside on my cul-de-sac, or working in the yard/garden π π· π π .
(I began walking on our cul-de-sac, beginning the first week in September. I started walking for 20 minutes which is about twice around. I am able to walk up to 30 minutes now. So I will continue walking between 20-30 minutes when I'm outdoors, for now.)
October 1: 60 minutes: outside walking, gazelle, rebounder, strength
October 2: 45 minutes: gazelle, inside walking, strength
October 3: Rest Day

Oh no @mypinkbikini I am very sorry to hear you received bad news about your dog. Fur babies are so special. Spend as much time as you can with him - you won't regret choosing him over exercise. I'm sending you a big virtual hug. π2

Hi Walker Friends.
I won't be setting a goal yet for this month because I'm uncertain what I can do. To spare you all TMI, I'm dealing with some female issues and I have a doctor appointment coming up this week. Definitely cannot do high impact and am being super careful with strength. Until I get more info, I'm just doing some plain walking and/or light exercise.
Oct 1: 4 Mile walk + 20 min Jessica Valant Pilates
Oct 2: 4 Mile walk + 20 min Jessica Valant full body
Oct 3: 3 Mile walk (no strength)
Oct 4: 4 Mile walk + 20 min Jessica Valant full body4 -
A cool foggy misty walk around the fields this morning. 3 laps around is ruffly 1.5 miles.
We've been working on our garage for the last week. I had 2 pods delivered to store everything in and once cleaned out. The floors were washed and yesterday we filled all the cracks and pits. Tomorrow we start to put down the epoxy paint. Hopefully, by this weekend we can start putting everything back in.2 -
Veggiegirl- I'm walking Extra big for you in the days ahead. My thoughts are with you.
I slept poorly last night so claimed today as a restday for my sanity. Back on it tomorrow!2 -
Its been a couple days but I did 3 miles with Leslie of burn to the beat and jogged most of the third with her!2
-
Today I did Leslie's tone every zone for an entire hour! What a great workout. I got a huge calorie burn in that hour and strength training with weights for upper and lower body as well as a cardio session. I look forward to doing that one again!2
-
I jog and walked today but I've got a little heel pain this afternoon. Its hurting. I'm going to see how it feels tomorrow. I don't want to lose my streak.2

Monthly Goal update: 30 / 100.4 miles tracked this month.
Still having heel pain and tightness on my Right foot. Iβve tried most of the plantar fasciitis exercises but itβs still fighting me.2 -
@deeder522 I'm doing a lot of calf and ankle work, wearing sneakers even for my indoor workouts and doing shorter workouts to try not to injure myself
I will say that I finally gave up and logged my weight after nearly 2 weeks. I've gained. I was trying to keep my protein up and work out but it seems I've ended up gaining anyway. Idk. I'm not sure my next move but the scale is not cooperating right now.2 -
My pup is feeling a little better thank goodness so we've been doing more fast walks together. I've Also been jogging a bit with my walks. Pushed myself aerobically this week. My weight is still bobbing up a pound, down a pound... might take it easy this wkend due to life. Hopefully I'll resume strong workouts again next week and the weight loss will follow...
Have a good weekend guys!2 -
Well, it seems that my Apple Watch challenge has set my mileage goal for the month.
51 / 100.4 miles tracked this month.
Ugh. Weather and my foot have not been kind to my milage this month. In fact, I'm ice rolling my foot as I type.
Meanwhile, I've been watching some interesting YouTube videos on health by Dr. Eric Berg. Maybe it's just here in SW Michigan but I'm getting better insight into my health from this guy than my PCP.
Also, in case anyone is interested. The new WALK RUN LIFT DVD is available as a gift pack from QVC.0 -
@Deeder522 my foot is still really hurting and I feel that because my mileage is down, my workout times are down, and my weight is up even while I've been so mindful of what I'm eating and drinking. I'm frustrated and it's hard. Mostly I want my foot to be ok you know. I want to walk around the rest of the day and not have horrible pain behind my heel. Thoughts are with you.2
-
My foot is doing ok most days. I've been doing shorter runs mostly and some walking. My weight isn't moving at all and that's frustrating. I need to revamp diet choices I think...2
-
Did a little indoor jogging through the first half of the lsu ole miss football game π π2

@mypinkbikini Nice way to use your time while watching the college boys play around. Next week is our big game MSU V Uof Michigan.
Monthly Goal update: 72 / 100.4 miles tracked this month.
Not sure if I'll make the goal this month. However, I did clean, prep, and paint our garage walls. It's a nice refresh from the old faded 70's yellow that was there.
A mini brag about my hubby. He's about 2 pounds from his ultimate goal weight. We've cut out the following to reduce inflammation: gluten, dairy ( including alternatives ) Coconuts, Almonds, Walnuts, most red/lean meat, added sugars ( read candy & chocolate), and limited rice/potatoes. We've also switched out all our shampoos and soaps.

Whoa @Deeder522 ... what a sacrifice to have cut all that. Congratulations to your dh!
I'm going to keep walking and jogging in the month ahead and try to do 4-5 days a week. I'm hopeful to do strength sessions and abs on 1-2 days a week.
Weight still isn't really moving.... I'll measure and officially weigh this weekend. Not expecting much though and considering my efforts this month that's disappointing2 -
mypinkbikini wrote: Β»Whoa @Deeder522 ... what a sacrifice to have cut all that. Congratulations to your dh!
Very true. Though, I think it's been harder on me than him. I still struggle with giving up some of the convenience foods. I'm working at not "cheating" as I should cut back/out most of the same foods.
Today, I made a lap around the backfield. It was a bit damp and even wet in a few spots but warm enough even with a little wind. This weekend we'll start moving things back into the garage. I'm so looking forward to having that project down.2 -
@Deeder522 taking that mi/ state game today to watch during my am workout while my dh sleeps. Hopefully it's a good match up π2

It has been one of those kind of months again, so I'm squeaking in here at the last day to post and read through your posts.
@VeggieGirlforLife I am sorry to read that you are having medical issues. Hugs πΌ .
@Deeder522 I'm sorry to read about your heel pain and tightness on your right foot Hugs π». That must feel really good to have the garage looking all fresh and updated. That was a lot of work to do.
@mypinkbikini It was good to read that you've been able to take faster walks with your doggie π. That is good news. I certainly understand how foot pain, no matter where it is located. It really causes major interruptions to our workouts. Which means it also affects so much of our lives and feeling of well being. Hugs πΉ to you.
@savannahs21 I do not know, but I just now saw that you posted your question in November's challenge also. Hopefully you might get an answer there. I Invite you to join us exercising/ walking in November if you would like to.
See you all in November. And hoping that November is a better month health wise for all of us. I'm right there with you all and doing everything that I can to regain some of my strength and ability to walk more and gain back my stamina again also. And, at least for me currently, the most frustrating thing is how little I actually accomplish in the same time frame or distance than I used to do. But, even though I am grateful that I am able to do what I am doing it is definitely not always easy to stay upbeat or optimistic.
I do hope that all is OK with those of us who have not posted this month either. But, seeing as I hadn't posted this month till now, I certainly understand, but still hope to see everyone in November ππ.
Hugs, y'all
