I’m generally a person that dislikes Autumn. I dread when the weather changes and I mourn the end of another wonderful summer. To me, November can be an ugly month: a symbol of the dark, dreary, cold days and months to come. That seasonal depression hangs heavy in my head. Over the years, I’ve worked hard on changing that perspective. Particularly this year I’ve worked hard on controlling my mood and thoughts. One of the things that has worked really well is to embrace each month and what it has to offer. So for November, instead of bare trees and gray gloomy skies, I am choosing to focus on cozy mornings and nights with the fireplace on, seasonal treats of anything pumpkin, creamy golden squash soups or side dishes of roasted root vegetables. To combat the dry air in our house, I simmer a fragrant homemade stovetop potpourri with apple, lemon, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and vanilla. I’ve embraced decorative gourds, beautiful fall chrysanthemums, and look forward to weekend walks in the crisp autumn air. For our Remembrance Day, we’re driving to a lovely rural area to enjoy a hike on the Bruce trail, ensuring we’ll bundle up in a cozy sweater and a warm scarf. Maybe I’ll book a half-day vacation to watch the U.S. Thanksgiving Day parade over a cup of steamy pumpkin spice latte. To be honest, planning for the upcoming months has been part of the therapy. I’ve discovered changing one’s perspective is a powerful mental health tool. Happy November pals!

SAD is a real thing. My Husband and I both suffer from it. We usually spend as much time as possible in Florida at the springs. Manatee are our spirit animal. They do not survive in water colder than 70 degs because they are pure muscle. I strive to be like that, muscle. Hubby not so much. He is striving to have their figure. Lol. I love him anyway. But getting out in the warm water, paddling and hiking are such a wonderful break to the dark winter. It also gives me something else to look forward to and think about.

@Jana_2020 - you have a true gift with words. I can see and smell the scenes you describe. Hank and I are right now sitting around our fire pit enjoying the smells and scenes of fall. Generally November is dreary and grey, but it came late this year and the color is only now peaking. So beautiful.
I had my 2nd pass day yesterday. I had so much fun with my grandkids all weekend, outside running and playing in our woods, cooking hotdogs over a fire, etc. But by 8:00 last night when I was finally home alone again, I opened up a bottle of wine and 1 glass turned into 3 turned into snacking turned into a bust.

I generally like November and December- they are busy fun months - we just had Bonfire night in the UK (lots of fireworks and lots of fun gatherings), my niece has her birthday this week and my daughter at the end of the month. December is just a huge run up to Christmas but January and February I find super tough - thanks for your perspective @Jana_2020, I might try to apply myself to enjoying those months instead of enduring.
Today was good, 30 mins of Pilates and a lovely long walk with a friend in the woods, lovely autumn colour and sunshine. I tracked and ate within calories.
I’m a little behind on posting but I’ve taken three pass days😩😩. And not good ones. I’ve ended the last couple of days feeling really rubbish, having had too much sugar. I vowed I’d go to bed feeling good tonight and I have. Phew. Back on it.6 -

@biketheworld Your last few days sound lovely!
Yes x 3 today. I went for 2 bike rides today. Thanks to @Katiecan2021 mentioning (on Nov 5) that it’s really important for our circadian rhythm / quality of sleep to get natural light early in the day, I'm going to try to get out for a ride on my lunch hours going forward. I'd also like to keep riding after work. Some days it may not always work out but it doesn't hurt to try.7 -

I have a “Happy lamp” which I have used in winters past when and if we go too long without sunny stretches. I find it helps my mood and with sleep. I though it was all a bit of bumph until we got our daughter one when she was in law school and she had a dramatic positive improvement within a week or two.
Glorious fall day here today. Had to loop back for a wool wrap and leather gloves as I set off on the long walk, as I had overestimated the sun’s warmth. Beauregard and I had a 90 minute walk.
Tracking — all good so far
Calories — under
🌟 Will post again if either changes 🌟

Pass day #3 for today with at least a couple more to go. Way too early to tell right now. I was told that I can't lift anything over 20 pounds for two weeks though.
I will need to be a little creative this winter to help offset SAD as opposed to just "getting out there and exercising". 😁 I'm looking at the experience as a blessing in disguise because I can also do whatever I figure out in future years in addition to just getting out and exercising.12 -
Yes, yes and yes
Walking and stretching.
Finally... getting back to recording/being on track after a bumpy start to November. Too much traveling and trying to take care of everyone else except for myself. I am back home and now focusing on my own self care which is much needed.10 -
All three completed nice late afternoon walk hope for another one tomorrow.
As the days get longer I make every effort to get outside each day thank god for dogs! I can honestly say that the fall and winter months don’t bother me I just can get a bit grumpy waiting for spring in March. I make sure to go outside and exercise xc ski walk snowshoe even shovel gets my heart rate up and gives my skin some color.7 -

I love love love the fall and September - December is possibly my favorite stretch of the year. I understand I am in the minority and kind of a weirdo for enjoying being cold and wearing 12 sweaters. Lol. Reading while bundled up and drinking hot cocoa sitting next to a window while it’s snowing outside and smelling something delicious is baking in the oven is heaven. All of that being said, I am a basically on a permanently vitamin d supplement which helps with the seasonal depression.
I decided I needed a pick me up and I’m going for the ring I had in sight for my 70# goal early. The idea of it makes me happy and therefore
I think it’s a good plan, and possibly a reminder to stay positive and that this too shall pass. It’s a Celtic design (below but with a different stone) with I think a green tourmaline - but I may be swayed on the stone depending on what surprises the jeweler has in stock. #ihavearingproblem

I am definitely one that gets the blues with the end of summer. I hate cold and snow, and am really affected by the diminished daylight. Motivation to exercise is going to get tougher. but I am determined to keep it up to some degree. I do try to focus on the unique aspects of fall, but I can't say the same for winter. Please someone, help me change my perspective!! LOL. @Jana_2020 Thanks for the reminder about the parade!
