If you’re new to the UAC then either comment on someone else’s “best lesson” or state something you’re hoping to learn, or state something you learned before you joined UAC.
I joined UAC in October of 2018. Steady member until after reaching maintenance ... the first time ... (summer of 2020?) returned to get back to maintenance in late fall 2020(?) through March 2021. Then went MIA until returning to The Fold Nov 2021.
My Bestest Lessons Learned ... (the hard way)- Much as I championed and promoted the idea that UAC was supposed to be "discovering healthy and SUSTAINABLE lifestyle habits that fit YOUR reality and preferences during my initial most-of-two-years .... I hadn't ACTUALLY finished discovering and internalizing my own quite as thoroughly as I thought I had by the time I reached "my goal weight". (I am far better at focusing on supporting others - it's the Reference Librarian Bent in my personality)
- If I expect to actually GET to a SUSTAINABLE lifestyle routine, I will need to BOTH treat "maintenance status" as "just another day of meeting The UAC Big Three (with a different number as the "in goal ceiling) AND that I will have to take the time to put more Recipes and Meal-Groupings into my Food Log Arsenal ... adding back variety. (already started that by putting in my Applesauce Oatmeal recipe, plan to add Chia Chocolate Pudding and Viceless Riceless Pudding (made with couscous instead of rice), and experiment with the Air Fryer setting of our toaster oven,
- I have also discovered (the hard way) just how much a difference being plugged into this community makes. Both in "world is open times" and in "virtual is the only kind of connecting available-Covid times". I was sooooooo GLAD you were still around when I went looking at the end of Oct 2021!

I joined in September 2021. I learned that being in a accountability group is exactly what I needed. Having to check in daily has helped me be consistent with my diet and exercise. I also learn different things everyday just reading everyone's post.

@donna25trinity - “the stand out for me would have to be learning that restrictive quick fix diets don't work instead they hve the opposite effect which results in self sabatage. So slow and steady covering the 3 UAC rules wins the race!!!”
I remember hearing once that the diet industry makes billions of dollars selling us “quick fixes” and next to nothing showing us how to maintain. That was a bit of an eye opener for me.Mrs_Hoffer wrote: »2. Something I learned LAST Christmas was to RE-GIFT all of the candies, chocolates, peppermints and christmas cookies ASAP! Yup! I was re-gifting fast and furious last year and when I looked back at my Libra app (just now), it shows that I LOST 6.2 lbs last December!!!! The idea of re-gifting was a real eye-opener for me!
@TerriRichardson112 and @WhatMeRunning - your comments on maintenance were spot on. That whole concept was new to me too. I never before thought about it as being something to learn and practice.

This my first month participating in this group and my third tour of duty on MFP.
What I’m learning here is to relax about all of this. I’ve had this distorted notion that one daily fail will undo all the hard work I’ve put in.
Oh and to not keep cinnamon rolls in the house.6 -

First visit in 2019...5 sporadic months. Didn't complete a one.
One month in 2020...nope.
Every month since May 2021... decided to hang around for the whole month on spite of not hitting the winners circle. I only post once a day, but think about it all the time.
I have learned I can benefit from being here without being in the winners circle.7 -
Track: yes
Calories: yes
Exercise: yes- Treadmill: 21 min / 1.23 mi
- Full Body Warmup 5 min
- EPIC II / Day 3 - Upper body workout (+ cool down) 61 min
I really loved today's upper body workout. It was good. I'm getting that EPIC feeling back.
I've also decided to add at least 20 mins of treadmill back in on the upper body workout days. I had kind of stopped doing treadmill on weight days when I was feeling burned out a few weeks ago with doing 35 mins on the treadmill as well as the EPIC workouts. It was too much. But I feel like I'm now not getting enough. Also our weather has finally turned cool enough that mosquitos might finally be gone so when my partner returns from his trip I'll go back to the after dinner walk outside. He's always up for it.
On another note related to yesterdays conversation I tried out the Traditional Strength Workout during yesterdays EPIC workout and back to Functional Strength Workout today. The difference in active calories was almost double for Traditional. I'll stick with Functional because I'm skeptical I burned that many. The take away is choose your app workout carefully otherwise you're apt to eat too many calories if you add them to MFP.
I've been on the UAC since Dec 2020 so just over a year. Probably for me I've learned that it's better to force myself to exercise no matter whether I feel like it or not because once I get started I'm good. I've stated in the past that exercise has always been my biggest issue.6 -
3 Yesses today, 1 Pass Day Used.
Exercise - Treadmill - 20 minutes of walking and 1 mile run (half a mile at 5mph and half a mile at 6.2mph)
I've been here since September 2021 (although I also joined UAC a year or two ago for 1 or 2 months).
I think what I've learned I actually learned before joining UAC and that's why I decided to join UAC. So I'm not really answering the question, LOL.
I have learned over the years I do best with rules, discipline, structure, accountability. I get that here on UAC.
So when I got out of the habit of tracking and found myself more at the upper end of the healthy weight range for my height and wanted to buckle down and lose about 5 pounds, I knew UAC was just what I need to get disciplined with tracking again. I needed the rules and the accountability!
Current weight is 135, down from 138.6 which is what it was on September 1st when I joined UAC. It may seem like slow weight loss to some, but it is progress to me! I'd been stuck around 138-140 for most of the year. Hoping to get to 133 and then work on maintaining 133-135, but for the month of December I just want to get through the month without gaining a bunch. I know I won't be able to do that without the accountability here on UAC!

Exercise? Yes
Tracking? Yes
Calories? No
I think I've been a member since June 2021, so this is my 6th month. What have I learned? Basically, I'm rubbish at staying within my calorie goals. Even worse at the carbs I'm supposed to be watching. But I keep tracking and keep reading everybody else's inspirational posts. I've basically maintained for the past year. It's good to know I can maintain, but I still have 30 pounds to go. I keep saying I know what I need to do... and I do... but I have just had the hardest time doing it. Keep on keeping on... that's my plan for the future, and I'll be here for as long as you'll have me.

I joined UAC April 1, 2018. I have been a continuous, daily member since then.
3 years 8 months.
Three things I’ve learned/benefitted from being here:
1) that every time we post something to help another member, we solidify our own commitment to that habit, motivator, technique, etc. 😄
2) that daily consistency & never giving up insure our success. Keeping our awareness on our exercise, food tracking, and body weight (not for everyone, but important for me to do) is essential.
3) a positive community is invaluable. Every time one of you posts, I learn something. Every time you cheer me in or say something I posted got you thinking or helped you makes my day!
Thank you ALL for being here. Ours is a valiant fight against a formidable foe, and we are winning - together❤️❣️❤️
