We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Topic: Holiday Traditions

Hanukkah, Christmas, Solstice:

Food or event-wise - what sort of Holiday traditions do yo celebrate?

On Christmas Eve, we have Christmas Pizza (actual story behind that, and we watch It’s A Wonderful Life.

Christmas Eve, we sing with our group at the 7PM Mass. Christmas Day changes, but usually go to one of the kid's homes for dinner, and gifts. They all live close, so it's easy.

The pandemic has put the kabosh on everything. We are having an immediate family dinner on Christmas Eve for triple-vaccinated family only. That's it. I'm already longing ahead to getting my 4th vaccination 6 months after my 3rd. I read too much, think too much and behave too much around Covid--can you tell?

For the last 5 years there has been constant change around xmas nothing set in stone. This year both daughters and their husbands / boy friends will be here for Xmas eve & morning.

For a long time we alternated Christmas dinner with one set of parents and Thanksgiving dinner with the other set, and then flipped it the next year. Then, as siblings had kids, they wanted Christmas with just their kids and another day for family. We ended up hosting both sets of parents for both days. Over the past twelve years, it’s dwindled down to one remaining parent in a nursing home using a wheelchair, and so we take her (my mother) out for Thanksgiving and celebrate with just my wife and I for Christmas.

Eventually, my wife and I will be looking forward to people coming to sing to us on Christmas when we’re in a nursing home . . . 😉

We usually have the traditional Jewish Christmas-eve dinner: Chinese food! This year a local caterer is preparing it for pick-up, as Christmas eve falls on Shabbat (Friday night), so there's no pop-up meal anywhere this year.

Our family traditions have been shattered these last two years due to family deaths, family addition, my health but other than that DW and I are carrying on. This Christmas Day were headed 4 hours south to visit our son for 3 hours on Christmas day then 4 hour drive back home.

Christmas eve will be different from many years in that DW will have a quiet evening at home nothing special so far.

I'm in the doctor's office as I write this so just waiting. Had an Echo yesterday results were void and bad. Good news I'm very thankful to be alive.
