Welcome! So many great posts, so get ready to settle in and read! Also, there is a Keto group on here. Join that as well. I am a T2D and I remember being where you are now! Wish I had taken it more seriously. Went from PreD to full on D. I was a full on diabetic for about 6 years. Was on medication for it but never really adapted well. Until my eyes started getting funky. Been 20/20 all my life, now I have to wear prescription bifocals. Could be old age, but I'm sure being diabetic did not help.

In October of last year I went in for an annual checkup. My A1c was 7.2. I weighed 200 lbs as I had already lost 14 pounds before my appt. On the 6th of this month, I was down to 176 lbs and my A1c was 5.3. So, the moral of my story is...Take your diagnosis seriously.

As for tips, just read. You will find your own way around the diet. If you can get your number to drop before become a full-fledge diabetic, so much better! For me, basically trying to keep my carb level under 20 grams per day. I avoid bread and pasta like the plague. Other sweet stuff, there are alternatives. But for now, try not to find those alternatives. People say they are just like the real food, but they aren't. You are just setting yourself up for disappointment. Although cauliflower pizza crust isn't half bad! I brought my A1c down in just 3 months, as well as lost almost 25 lbs. You can do anything for 3 months. Stay away from fruit, especially juice. Berries are okay in moderation. Just weigh them out and log. Which brings me to...

LOG LOG LOG! Utilize MFP! But do your own research! The food database here is all user-generated. So make sure you really look at the nutrition part of the food you are searching to make sure it matches. Especially with the carbs. Sometimes it takes forever. After a few tries of finding a correct entry, I just make my own. That way I know it's correct. Also, if you don't have one now, get a food scale. They are relatively inexpensive. Get one that measures in grams and ounces. And use it. Don't try to guesstimate how much food you have. Liquids can be measured in cups and teaspoons, but actual food should be measured in grams or ounces.

Also, if you haven't already, go to the other part if you are on your computer. Click on Home/Goals, then edit Daily Nutrition Goals. Change the entries to what you want your target calories to be. Then set your Carbs at 5 or 10%. 10% might be easier to ease your system into it. Set your protein to 20-25%. Higher if you work out a lot. Then fill in the rest for the fat. If you are using your phone, then just click on Goals, Nutrition Goals, Calorie carbs protein & fat goals.

There are so many other tips, so hopefully someone else will chime in for you. But last, keep it simple! If you have a lot of time and love to cook, then play around with recipes. But if not, it can get too over complicated. Ask me how I know. I was on keto back in 2017. Lost quite a bit of weight for 5 months, then I got burnt out trying to find recipes that I enjoyed eating. Fell off the keto wagon and fell hard. This time, I am just keeping it simple. And adapting. Good luck!! Hope I didn't scare you away! You can do it!

Hi and welcome! Best advice is to keep calm and keto on... stick with it and keep your carb intake as low as you can each day, aim for 20 carbs or less total daily (log on MFP to figure it out).
IF you feel tired or flu-like in the early days, drink salty consommé or bone broth or just a dab of salt on your hand... it goes away after a few days/weeks.
Feel free to ask more questions here too.
    good luck and KCKO!
