Planned pass day today and enjoyed every minute. Thank you for the birthday wishes @jamcnewman @Bill70sStrong @Jana_2020 @TerriRichardson112 💗💗💗💗 you made my day! It was such a pleasure to be mindful about my meals without logging for a day. Admittedly, it felt strange - but for me that feels like a win, too. Looking forward to getting back my “routine” but savoring every last second of my time with family on this little weekend getaway. 🥰5 -

I bought a gravel bike today which I never would have done with my husband's encouragement.
Both he and I started 2021 in the high 200's, with no exercise at all to speak of in our lives. I started on here first and he followed me about 2 months later. He is the primary cook so all I asked was that he help me with counting calories which he was open to (versus us cooking separate meals).
Once I started losing it was motivating to him to start. We have both lost a considerable amount of weight and completely changed our lives for the better- together. I am thankful for this every day but the motivation for each of us to do it came from within - while our determination helps and inspires the other, we each have had to want it for ourselves to get here.8 -

Thank you to all who responded to the topic. I agree that it is impossible to force another person to have a more active life or to eat healthier. And “Leading by example” maybe works better. It was nice to know that many of you have a supportive SO, while others are strong enough to be on their own. I was a happy one to have the husband who always supported and motivated me. When about 7 yeas ago I asked what he thought if I would start running, the next moment we were already in the car on the way to the sport shop to buy running gear for me. Without him I would probably still thinking should I or should I not. Today is 4month as I am trying to find the way to live without him. And I am not very good in this.

Exercise: 15 minutes MommaStrong and at least 5 minutes of walking around at the ski lodge helping my daughter ski with friends. I did not manage to sneak away for a hike this time as I had hoped.
Tracking: Planned the day with an estimation for chili and calories over
Calories: Followed the plan, pretty much - but like I said, the plan was over calories. But it actually I think helped to have a plan. Unexpectedly they had set up a "waffle cabin" outside selling belgian waffles (for the holiday weekend I guess?) and the smell was wafting over the place all day but I managed to resist - probably because I knew I already had an indulgent plan.
I've never wanted to get my wife to lose weight. She has actually gained a fair bit of weight during the pandemic and occasionally she has asked me for advice since I am successfully losing. But my advice (MFP) she doesn't want to follow. Which is fine. She is beautiful as she is.
In terms of activity, she does go on hikes regularly and do stretching. Sometimes we find time to go for a walk or a hike together and that is fun. More often we support each other in taking separate time for that. With the autoimmune issues I've had lately, I would say that she is the one in better shape.
In terms of food, since the pandemic the 4 members of our family mostly eat our own different meals. My wife cooks and shops for everyone - it's a lot of work for her. We eat a lot of leftovers so it's sort of a rotating system of making a meal 2-3 people will eat while someone else eats leftovers. She cooks me the things I ask her to cook and buys me what I ask her to buy. I ask her to "hide" the treats she buys for her and the kids. I often go looking for them, but at least they're not on the counter tempting me.5 -

I know I've been quiet lately but wanted to reply to this topic, although my response is not all that different from others.
My wife has not changed any eating habits in all the years we've been together, she is very much unchanged in that regard, which is no surprise, that is just the kind of person she is. She has asked me a couple times to help advise her on what she could do to improve her diet but she is uninterested in eating what she doesn't enjoy, so it's just a non-starter.
Because of this it's been rather often that we eat separate meals. While we would both prefer to share the same meal, that just doesn't usually work out for the both of us. We're adapted to that. If we weren't able to adapt to that we probably wouldn't have made it. Our relationship wasn't built on eating the same foods so that was no problem for us.
Pretty much the same with exercise. She has gone on some walks with me but she gets swarmed and bitten by bugs who find her blood type all too delicious. It's a strange, yet very real thing that makes outdoor activity very unpleasant for her. Her aversion to cold air doesn't help her get out in the winter when the bugs are gone either. 🤷♂️ Our relationship wasn't built on exercising together either (at least not in that way). 😊
She has been very supportive of me. She shows pride in any health achievement I make, even the ones she can't understand. When I started off 15 years ago by switching to a raw vegan diet for a year she thought that was very alien yet she still supported me, and celebrated the successes. When I was running she built me a display rack to hold all of the medals and bibs from all of my events.
That's not to say she has not ever leveled any criticism my way, good intentions or otherwise. As a couple, things are not always rosy. But overall it has always been net positive.
As for my absence here, I'm doing fine. I'll be back.
I haven't been tracking, so I'm out of the winners circle for sure! I also haven't been checking in so no champion either. All is well though.
Hope you all are doing well. ♥️8 -

Our volunteers here pick such interesting topics! In our family, I was the odd one out in terms of good exercise practices - husband and two daughters all exercised daily and I was hit or miss. When it came to food, for a while when I was working, it was every person for themselves about half of the time. The other half of the time, I would cook something fast and easy (pasta, rice, etc.). When I was in a period of not exercising that much and gaining weight - which was frankly a large part of the last 5 years - my husband would never say anything to me. He would often suggest that we take a walk together to check out the open houses or ride our bikes to go get coffee. All very subtle.
He also has not said too much to me as I have been losing weight. One of the girls came home after not seeing me for a number of months and remarked that I had lost weight. I think that gave him the opening to ask me about it and how much I had lost. This is despite seeing me weigh all my food. I now cook every day, exercise every day, eat dessert every day. I am no longer the odd one out.9 -
