Night Eating

Hello! Night Eating! Oh my goodness so glad that there is a group and that there are some other people out there who are also struggling with this. I am a night eater. And I have a little dog who gets up with me and joins in the fun - eating together in front of TV in the middle of the night. And I'm an insomniac anyway so it is a regular activity...ugh...Thank you for being here! Now I have some hope!

  • I'm pretty bad about what I call "piecing".... a little here, a little there, a little more.... and pretty soon I've eaten way over my calorie limit. I noticed that in December I was getting very bad about piecing while reading/posting at my desk in the evenings, so what I'm doing about that is twofold.

First, I'm getting up on time and going to bed on time. If I get up on time, I'm tired by bedtime, so I go to sleep. (This is me, I'm aware it's not that simple for some people.) If I go to bed at ten (which is actually bath and then read in bed, not quite "sleep immediately") then that takes me away from the kitchen, and I'm not up for hours getting legitimately hungry cause I'm doing stuff. I know that if I'm reading in bed, nice and warm and comfortable, with my partner snuggled up beside me, I have to be pretty damn hungry to disturb myself from that. It's far easier to get up and go get something if I'm downstairs sitting at my desk next to the kitchen.

Secondly, I'm doing a temporary habit reset of just not eating after 7 pm. By 7 I have eaten dinner, tidied up the kitchen, and if I want a little bit of dessert I've had it. Otherwise, I'm done. Really I am. Yes, it's NICE to have a couple cookies with that last mug of tea, but I don't need it, and apparently I can't do it without that being the beginning of 1000 calories I don't have room for in my budget. So we're just not going to do anything until that habit dies down, and then maybe in a month or two I can reintroduce a snack in the evenings. But not right now. Part of the reason I'm okay with this is I am not doing it forever. (I think. I may be so good with it I keep it up, but that's not the plan going in.) I'm also quite aware that there may be lapses in this, especially since I have surgery coming up and there will probably be a lot of eating the night before the surgery. But by and large, if there's nothing big that I can't manage another way... I'm just not going to eat after 7 pm. And so far it seems to be working pretty well for me.

I'm looking for someone to help keep me accountable with my snacking/night eating. My big problem is staying up late watching streaming service shows and snacking. I need to lose about 100 pounds and plan to do so in 10 pound goal increments with the help of my fitness pal food, exercise and hydration logs.

I really need someone to check in with me several times a week and possibly daily to provide motivation and support. Can you help?

I have noticed lately that I wake up 45 mins after falling asleep and I eat something sweet. Almost like sleep walking whelp. I don’t know how to stop that I am not even hungry and I am having enough calories during the day . It’s almost auto pilot . It’s odd lol .
