So more or less hanging out in the same ole neighborhood.
It has been an odd sort of week in some ways. I'm just a little down a bit more often than usual. I am not really sure why and it's not serious and it's not for a full day at a time, but it's there. Tomorrow we are having lunch with friends and then the four of us are going to tour the newly renovated Washington, DC Mormon temple. It has been many, many years since they allowed non-Mormons to go inside. I hear it's beautiful and I'm looking forward to being out with friends since we've done so little of this in the past two years. I hope it will up my mood a bit. I also hope my neck will be kinder to me tomorrow. When I took that "chipmunk fall," the doc said I had four bulging discs in my neck, and they are finally beginning to bother me.
My 7-day average stats for last week are not bad, but not good enough to move the scale. I am going to start including kcals consumed and net kcals since we all agree intake is key and I need to keep those out front.
Steps = 15,427
Kcals burned = 1,948 (here I did see progress, reaching my 1,800-kcal goal on 6 of the 7 days)
Stairs = 16 floors
Kcals consumed = 1,457
Net kcals = 851
So, I can see here that one area I can work on is actual calories consumed. Most days I stayed around 1,200 to 1,300, but I had two days this past week where I was way over. One of those days was the day I made homemade tuna and pasta salad. It was sort of healthy with celery, scallions, red and green peppers, apples, and raisins. But hubby likes that type of salad with a lot of dressing, and although I used low-fat mayo, it was still off the charts with the honey and other things added to make it tasty!
I want to say, "Oh well, I don't do that that often." But that is dangerous thinking for me. So I'll say, my commitment is to do better this coming week.
Lois, you just keep getting battered with sickness and pain! I am so sorry and I hope that you will soon enjoy a long stretch of feeling good and having all your loved ones well, too.
Sheesh and Kelly, I am looking forward to hearing from you. Sheesh--in case you are wondering, yes, we are getting mobilized.

My first day of the new weigh-in week is dismal. My neck kept me awake last night (Fit Bit said I slept 5 hours) and so I actually took a nap this afternoon. It was still hurting when I woke up and hubby had a rough day at work so neither of us were up to cooking and so hubby decided to get takeout from Popeye's. That's something we don't do very often because of the high fat and calories, but that was dinner. Then I literally forgot to look at my burn for the day, and since it's almost midnight and I have only about 1,650, there's no way I'll make my 1,800 today. I guess I have to accept that I am going to have a few off days. Was hoping someone else had posted but see I'm the lone poster today. I hope everyone is okay.

This morning was one of those days where I was frustrated with the scale, however, after reviewing last week’s post, discovered that is not as bad. So, I’ve been eating more veggies and fresh fruits, but the scale wasn’t too far off from last week. But similar to last week, was almost 1.5lbs lighter yesterday. Ah well. I guess the it’s best to report the heavier days consistently.
Work is progressing from home and all is going well. STILL settling Mom’s estate…UGH.
I have not yet followed up with my trainer…so that’s also on my ToDo list or finding a new one. Mom’s stuff has me so focused/busy and tired. Back was doing better, but tightening up today. May go to chiro tomorrow if it’s still fussy. Antibiotics are doing a number on my tummy so dealing with that as well.
I started this yesterday…and well you can see I didn’t make it back. And today I’m back at 225…so there goes that 1.3 from yesterday.
Sarah I hope you get to feeling better as well. I’m getting there…just taking it one day at a time.
My daughter turns 40 on the 16th. Thank God Audrey called me to get going on a birthday gift for her since we have to send it to Okinawa! I jumped on Amazon and picked out some cute 40ish stuff for her. Shipped it to Audrey and she mailed it off today (that’s my weakness, I hate going to the post office – even my mailbox for that matter). Anyhow, I reached out to my son in law and he’s planning a special get away at the Ritz-Carlton in Okinawa so we’ve mailed a check to help with massages and spa treatments.
We’re still working on Mom’s estate and getting so damn frustrated. We have to file a small estate probate for a couple of accounts because the guy I had helping us set up an investment account didn’t set it up correctly and it took for mom to pass for me to figure it out. UGH. He’s going to lose all of our investment accounts once we’ve got it all gathered and finalized. I’m interviewing a couple of investment advisors now. Ladies, please be sure either you have a trust or beneficiaries identified…This has been a headache. I’m going to go as far as adding the kids to various accounts so they are co-owners. When the time comes, if we’re both gone, they will have easy access to the money to do whatever needs to be done. The house will be in a family trust for them to sell down the road or rent out – whatever they decide. But the cash/cash investments – I’m attempting to make it as easy as possible for them to have access.

OMG. Hobbling around on this foot is wrecking havoc on me, beyond weight gain. My left foot and lower back are hurting now from walking weird. I had a workout with my trainer today, but it's very difficult to get much of a workout . . . to get my heart rate up. I decided to cut my calories further until I get the green light from the doctor. Hopefully. May 11th . . send good thoughts.
Sarah, I'm really sorry your neck is acting up so much. Do you think a chiropractor might help? Or physical therapy? I've also heard that cortisone shots can help, but don't last. That's really a downer.
Lois, and you're dealing with so much also. We're all struggling physically right now it seems. Hubby and I went out to a late lunch and movie yesterday, and that perked me up a little. Maybe we just set aside working out for now, watch intake, and do some things to cheer us up.
Sorry for being a day late to post, and it's getting late here now, so I'll check back tomorrow. Sarah, I want to hear more about your getting mobilized.0 -
Happy monday ladies!
I hope everyone had a spectacular Mother's Day weekend. My daughter Audrey came by on Saturday. I think I've chatted about her before. She has this device called Oculus Quest 2. And she's been doing workouts on it and was super excited. Well she brought it over for me to try...I was really worried about vertigo with the VR headset. But for the game Beat Saber, I did ok. Well I went ahead and bought the dang thing. Hubby was happy because he's kinda been looking at it. It was expensive and I'm still not sure, but I can try the device for 30 days and the games for less than 2 hours of play time or 14 days to get a refund. I'm going to give it an attempt tonight after I call my sister for our weekly check in. I did have some time while waiting for my reports to run (that's when I usually post here), but I put on the headset and went into the International Space Station game (free). That was really cool. It kept telling me wrong direction, and I was sitting in my chair the entire time, but it felt like I was floating in the station. It was way cool. I don't know if I could do that standing or even for very long, but that was a cool experience.
Yesterday was quiet, I told Rhea and her parents to come up next weekend and we'll celebrate Mother's day. My DIL had her mom was in town and I didn't want to rush over there right around when they were leaving or have them travel up here afterwards (remember it's minimum 45mins each direction). So we'll have fun next weekend. My new grill will be here Thursday and I paid to have them set it up...I went for the $2k beauty at Costco - it's replacing a near $2k beauty from there that we bought in 2004. I got my money's worth and hopefully it grills just as well or better!! So I'll make some burgers or something on it next weekend to Christen it.
Hubby and I went to the movies and saw Dr. Strange. Well the 3D is incredible...too incredible...I had to close my eyes for a good portion of it and still felt queasy after we got home. The story line sounded good, I just couldn't watch much of it. We will buy it when it's released for streaming, and I'll watch it again, but hubby was so happy to go. It was tough yesterday with Mom being gone and it made him a bit happy.
Nothing else exciting over here. Hoping this Oculus thing gets me to start moving

Just quickly checking in after logging food. Lois, I had not heard of that device, but good for you for keeping your eye on ways to motivate activity. And it's great that you you're willing to celebrate on a different weekend so the kids don't have to travel an hour and a half and can also enjoy time with the other mother/grandma. I was always grateful that my mom was flexible since we never lived near her.
I am a bit frustrated this morning because my weight has once again jumped up a full pound and a half (131.6). I am not seeing changes in my intake or activity that would account for this, but I know that I have to accept it and look at what I can do instead of shrug and say, "has to be water weight." I'm good at that, and thankfully, it often is water weight. But that begs the question of why am I retaining water? I know one reason is my love of salt. Hubby told me this morning that his blood sugar is unstable and that he knows he has to cut back more on sugar. I suspect that if I take my blood pressure, that number will say, "Girl, you really over-salted that ear of corn last night, and just because you kept in your calorie range and they were the lower sodium type does not mean that those potato chips were a good snack choice."
So here I am, putting this down in black and white and making a commitment to watch the salt (and the sugar). Hopefully the scale will a little kinder to me tomorrow for weigh-in day. 0 -
I've tried to post twice in the last two days . . didn't go through. Argh.
I had a lovely Mother's Day. I tried to post photo of the baby without success. We got to see her last Friday and again Sunday, so it's been fun.
I'm still hobbling on my foot, but I don't feel much pain so hopefully the x-ray tomorrow shows it's healed enough to resume normal activities. Send good thoughts.
Lois, I'm in favor of anything that makes movement fun and happen more often, so go for the VR.
Sarah, it's really hard to avoid sodium . . it's in everything it seems.
Kelly, where are you? I've been thinking about you because we had another cold snap here for a few days, frost on the grass and in the mountains. Come on summer! Hope everyone is well.
Sorry for the brief post. We have tickets to the theater tonight. It's "Jesus Christ Superstar", which I like. And, I have things to get done before we leave. I probably will be eating off plan for dinner
