Well, that's a nice surprise. Makes me think that last week's weight was probably some water weight, but in any event, it's nice to see a loss.

I did my hilly outside route last night for the first time in a while. I headed out right about sundown, so it was a little warm but not hot. I think the change was good for my body and my mind. Doing the same thing day after day is getting boring, but my ability to do that will soon come to an end, so I'm taking advantage of a temperature controlled place while it's there.

One challenge I now have is the antibiotic I was prescribed after my implant post was put in last Thursday. I take it morning, mid-day and bedtime, and you have to take it with food. So that means a late snack that I have to plan around. Thankfully, it's a 10-day run and I have only 4 more days.

Here are my 7-day averages:
Steps = 12,852
Stairs = 11 flights
Kcals burned = 1,789

Goals for the week are (1) watch and try to reduce fat intake while upping protein a bit, as these are off; (2) something for upper body; (3) check in to classes since the Bone Builders class is full.

If we continues to be less hot and humid, I'd like to jump on the metro and go into DC to visit the National Gallery of Art. That would add steps and stairs and it has just been way too long because of Covid and crazy weather. I cannot believe that it has been one full year now that I haven't worked. Last August 10 was my last day on the CDC Covid Response team. In a way, I miss working. In a way, I'm happy to have stepped away from that kind of stress. And it also been a full year since I fell on my face and broke my nose! Wow, time flies!

Only .2 but I will take it. So my meeting with the new trainer went well. Small facility only open to trainers with their clients. Pricing was affordable. I've committed to Tues/Thurs 530 for the next two weeks starting on Tuesday. If it goes well, I will continue. I'm actually pretty excited. I can't believe how hard it has been to find the connection.

Well, I've decided that I am going to head out of town tomorrow and head to my niece's wedding in San Diego (I've been so flip-floppy on this trip). Hubby can't go, so I'll be going solo. I've done it enough times and now I have this spiffy new car that will make it a dream drive... Anyhow I'm going to head out early tomorrow morning and head home on Sunday. My cousin got a time share for us for Thurs/Friday so we'll hang out there until the wedding Friday night. Sat am I'll drive north and visit my sister and head home from there (she's only slightly westerly out of the way - not too far). I'll be home Sunday. I know I won't get a whole lot of activity in (maybe dancing at the wedding). And depending on the Filipino food available and access to Valerio's bakery for more Filipino rolls and snacks. I'm pretty excited for this weekend get away as well.

Sarah - your fair trip sounds fun as does your museum adventures. And I understand with the antibiotic. I usually have a small street taco size tortilla with butter when I have to take late night or early morning meds. I prefer it over toast, but it works. Hoping you're also taking some yogurt with those things as well. I know they gave me tetracycline when I had my post implanted and man that messed with my tummy. Yakult and yogurt saved me. I know I'm only 58, but the events of this year have me looking at early retirement options. Not quite doable yet, but I am planning on sooner rather than later. I just wish I hadn't been so reluctant to new cars a few years ago. Now we're buying TWO this year. My last car purchase was in 2005!

Sheesh - hoping you'll have time for an update today.

Kelly - where are ya sweet girl. We need to hear about your latest vacation!!

Katie - hoping you find time for an update as well.

Dang! Sarah, you passed me again! I've got to buckle down on the intake. That will be my goal for this week. I don't think I can increase activity much, so it has to be intake. Looking at the macros is a good idea, Sarah. Fact is, we love our carbs, but starches and sugar are not an essential category of food at all. Increasing protein (which will increase fat intake also), and decreasing sugar and starches is key for me. Carbs in the form of vegetables and fruit provide vitamins, minerals and fiber, so keeping those as the choice for carb intake is important.

Sarah, I can't believe it's been a year since you worked. Congratulations on making it work for you and hubby this past year. It's a big change, but after a while you wonder how you ever fit a job into your busy schedule, lol! I envy your trip into DC to the museums. We really enjoyed that in DC. My daughter here will be in DC over Labor Day weekend with her hubby. He has to be there on business the week following the holiday, so she is using a free plane ticket they have to fly out to be with him that weekend. She's been there before with our family, but he hasn't . . so she be a tourist with him. I really hope it's not awfully crowded or hot/humid for them. My hubby and I will be staying at their house with the baby!! Can't wait . . she is so fun!

Lois, enjoy your trip for the wedding! Drive safely. And, I'm so happy for you that you found a good fit for a new trainer. Having one if you can is so helpful for consistent workouts and for accountability.

    Kelly, I miss you.

Katie, hope things are going well for you. We're here to help and support and not judge, so post when you can. I understand how having children takes all of your time, but hopefully you're finding a little for yourself.

I'm here! We made it back from Knoxville, Iowa on Sunday. It was soooo insanely hot and humid there and then we got home and it was (and is) the same temps here. We had such a great time. Got some golfing in when we stayed in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on the trip down, then Knoxville Nationals, in Iowa was amazing. Sooo many people, but such a great time. The drive back sucked... over 11 hours in one day. Not used to that anymore and neither is my body :D
Monday we cut the grass, did laundry and got house stuff done, then relaxed with the kids. Yesterday I worked at the office all day, sitting on my butt and today I'm working from home.. sitting on my butt. I have attempted 2 days in a row to wake up early to work out, but it just hasn't happened. I'm close.. I can feel it lol
My big goal of the day was to increase my water intake, which I have done and then some. Yesterday, I literally only drank coffee and 1 glass of water.. that was it. Today I decided to try tracking it, because I know it'll make me drink more, and I'm up to 78oz so far. Not a ton, but WAY more than I have been drinking.
I'll start weighing in again too. I haven't weighed myself in forever, but I will either tomorrow or Friday and I'll post it again.
Ok.. I'll find some time to catch up on all of your posts. I hope all is well with everyone <3

Sheesh - how fun that you're going to have the baby for a few days! That is exciting! Trainer did ask about my eating habits, but we both agreed, for now, we're going to focus on getting me active, moving and stretching and in a few weeks or more, we can discuss nutrition. I can't make that many changes at one time.

Kelly I'm so glad you had a great trip...I know the long drives kind of stink, but the get aways are fun and worth it. I've been sitting on my butt here as well, so I can relate. Check in after your weigh in. We all are here for you.

Funny thing with the trainer meeting yesterday, he made me take my shoes and socks off to use his new-fangled scale thingy bobber to get measurements and weight....well I kept trying to get him to look at my Garmin naked and afraid numbers, but he was bent on using his thingy. (So the struggle bus is real for me folks on getting my shoes and I wear the super tight feetures socks, so whew...that was a workout.) Well, the numbers were SOOOOO close. and given that his was taken AFTER eating 2 meals and a snack, coffee and lots of water, he actually agreed we could just use my Garmin scale numbers for the future check ins. Hahaha. But it was good to know that it's that close to the other devices.

Sarah somehow I didn't catch in the first read that you've been retired for a year now. WOW!! And you're making it work in a positive way. That is a reason to celebrate.

Good to hear from everyone. Lois, so glad you like the trainer. Sheesh, you will surely pass me by any day now, and I know you are firmer than I am! And I really was surprised when I weighed today because I had been heavier than that every time I had weighed since last Wednesday until today.

Kelly, it's about 11 hours to my family in NC by the time we stop to eat one meal and stop at least once or twice more for gas and bathroom breaks. And for me, that is too long to be on the road. When I was a young thing, we would arrive after that long drive and jump out of the car ready to do something. Now, we are totally drained if we try to do the whole trip at one time. But I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. It's so nice to get away and I know this was something your hubby had been looking forward to.

Regarding my retirement, I still feel guilty about not working even though it was not really my choice to stop when I did. I just ran into contract issues. But I still find myself thinking on Sundays that I have to hurry up and do things because tomorrow is a workday! I don't want to work full time again, especially since in my field full time means 50+ hours a week, but I haven't ruled out part-time if that should crop up. I'm just not going out seeking it.

Well, I have phone calls to make. Katie, we hope you find time to check in and share how your week went.

Ok there it is. It's honestly not the 160 or more than I thought it would be, so that's a good thing. Time to get focusing. Today I'm doing well with my water intake too. Lois, I feel like I need to start by focusing on 1 thing at a time too, this time around. Normally I'm an all or nothing kind of person, but I think that's why I struggle with keeping on going. It's just much to think about sometimes. So yesterday and today is water intake. Eventually I definitely need to get back to being more active on a regular/routine basis and not so sporadically and then I would also like to get back to tracking what I eat using MFP. I know in my brain that it makes sense, at least to get me on track, but the thought of it right now just spins my brain.

Sarah - Wow a whole year retired already! Crazy. I can't wait lol Hope everything is going well with the implant post. Amazing that you managed to get back to your outdoor walking, after such a scary experience that you had. Great job on the weigh ins too. I also wish I could be 130 magically lol

Lois - That's great that you found yourself a trainer! That's super exciting and a great step in the right direction! Enjoy the wedding trip and drive safe! I'm not sure what your interstate speeds are there, but in South Dakota they are 80, which is far too freakin fast for me. In Canada, the speeds on highways are 100-110kms an hour, which is 62-68mph, so I'm just not used to those high speeds.

Sheesh - Have so much fun with the grandbaby!

Good morning, all. Sheesh, if you're checking in, my weight is up a full pound since Wednesday, as I predicted. I was just lucky enough to be at the low end of my 2-pound curve on weigh-in day. Nothing in my intake or activity indicates a reason for the jump upward, so I know it's just the way it is with my body. I expect we're actually about the same weight now. I'd really like to get the high end of the curve a little lower before we head to hubby's high school reunion in early October since that will entail several days of restaurant food and another long drive that will affect my activity. I need a little cushion.

Lois, I hope you made it safely to California. Enjoy the beautiful San Diego weather. And Kelly, it's a good idea to focus on one thing at a time rather than everything at once. Today my focus is intake. I don't think I had any fruit yesterday, which is a shame since we're getting good local produce from the farmers market now.

It also just hit me that I should repost my favorite quotes from Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper, i.e., "What else in your life are doing half-assed?" and "Get up and finished what you started." I know that that fast method of losing massive of amounts of weight did not work for the participants long-term, but I still miss certain aspects of that show.

I find myself cruising along in the backseat of my car with my son driving. Why? Because I had way too much fun at the wedding. It was beautiful and full of the family. Such a great time tons of dancing. So the dancing. Yeah. At some point mid one of thos “jump” songs my left heal felt like someone stepped on it. But nope. I don’t know what happened but the last 30 mins of the wedding I was sitting in a chair with my leg propped on a bag of ice - still dancing in my chair. They had a great DJ. Sim happened to text shortly after so I asked him to fly out this morning ing and we are driving back. Expensive getaway. I still had an amazing time. I did text my new trainer we’re slightly delayed. He sent back a haha and we’ll start when I’m ready.

Kelly - in az speed is 75 on open highway (and we take the additional 10 so about 80-85 mph. Cali is only 70 and they’re not as flexible as az so closer to 75. It was crazy at first but going to work I go between 70-75 as the posted speed is 65.

Well it's Monday. The left ankle, achilles, calf - whatever has not improved. Kept it elevated and iced yesterday. Today, I've got the ice packs secured with an ace wrap, but can't elevate while working. And since I'm catching up, can't step away and elevate it for a couple of hours. Fortunately we have a full bath downstairs as well, so I slept in recliner in an almost anti-gravity lift with a pillow underneath so it's not too swollen this am. And, we have mom's shower bench still (actually I think we bought it when I severed my acl in 2013)....any way, I am able to shower myself without going upstairs. I am still hoping it's just a strain and will heal on it's own, however, I did make an ortho appt for Thursday afternoon. I can stand on it, I can't flex and push off of it. So yeah.

Hope you guys had a great weekend.

OMG, Lois. I am so sorry. You just don't need anything else happening for a while. You've had your share plus sine. Hope it's just a strain that will heal fast and well with rest, ice, etc. I'm paranoid of anything happening to a leg or foot since walking is the one activity I seem to be able to get myself to do. Sending you healing thoughts.

You all are doing so well minus some injuries. I am having a really rough time staying on track. There is a lot going on in my life that I cannot control and would really like to know the outcome sooner rather than later. My weight fluctuates daily between 175-178lbs. I told myself that if I made it to 165 I would reward myself but that does not seem to be working sadly. I think I need to break down smaller goals as I am going through this rough stage of life. Perhaps making sure I drink enough water is the small manageable goal I need first. A trainer though does sound amazing as I read those posts. I had one once but he was not a good fit, all about how long I would stay so he could get more money. That was not my goal at all.

Well this week I am going for at least no weight gain and more water. (Cross my fingers)

My weight also bounces around 2-3 pounds, Katie. And your small goal sounds like a good idea. It helps if we have small goals that we can meet rather than large ones that it's likely we cannot meet under our current circumstances. And it's a way to just get ourselves started. My "can't make myself do" seems to be working on upper body strength. So I've started doing just a few arm exercises without weights just before dressing in the morning. It's something at least, and with a tricky shoulder, it's a way to ease into something more productive while monitoring that shoulder. Glad to hear from you. We have your back. :)
