Wow. I was feeling bad about not getting here until almost 6:30 p.m. EDT, and I see I'm the first to arrive! I'm again lucky enough to hit the low end of my 2-pound swing on weigh-in day. This is the lowest weight I've seen during the past 7 days, but one afternoon, I actually saw a big hike that scare me to death. I have to remember that body weight is not a constant. Most days this week I have been around 131.
Today, we did something out of the ordinary and actually went to the pool on a weekday afternoon. Hubby is able to step away from his desk some days, provided he takes his cell so he can take an emergency call and check email. It's a lovely day here--blue skies, sunny and not too awfully hot and humid, and there's a little bit of a breeze. Have to enjoy these days when we can because it's not typical for August.
I'll be back later to see how everyone else is doing, but while I'm here, here are my 7-day averages for last week:
Steps = 13,125
Stairs = 14 flights
Kcals burned = 1,765
I did upper body exercises two times, but need to go longer that I did. I tell myself that I'm easing in to see how the shoulder does. It's partly that and partly laziness, I have to confess.
My goal for next week to increase time and add weights if the shoulder does not start "talking to me."
Hope all is well with everyone and I look forward to your posts.

Happy Wednesday! Sarah - I did pop on earlier and was surprised you hadn't started the thread yet. I can't get to my scale - ok...I don't want to do the work to go upstairs. Truth be told. My leg from knee to toes is swollen. I'm sleeping on the recliner and have also been waking up about 5-53 with severe charlie horse in that leg. Thankfully hubby sleeping near me on the other couch so he's been able to rub them out. I had already increased fluids, but today added bananas and pickle juice. Hopefully I won't have one tomorrow. It hurts to "walk" with my crutches and I'm tired. I've postponed my start date with my new trainer. I have dr. appoint tomorrow afternoon. Probably won't have any final results but educated guesses and may and rx for an mri. I can stand on my leg, well have it on the ground and put weight on it, it's the pushing forward when the right foot takes the lead that it screams.
Sarah - Great job on your reduction! a reduction is not a gain, so celebrate....
Kate - pick one small goal and focus on that. That method generally will do wonders for me. Do just one thing for a week or even a month and then add the next. And, I LOVE having a trainer. It's been a couple of years for me, however, they had kept me focused and active. To me - totally worth the money.

Hells bells. I am so stuck. Yesterday I did a new cardio "High/Low" class. It really got my heart rate up, but no results on the scale this morning. I know the deal . . gotta cut the sugar, starches and overall calories. It's like the 120's are so close, yet so far away, lol.
Thanks for starting the new thread Sarah. It's late here, and I had a long and tough day. I'll post more about it another time. I need bed, but I wanted to jump on to post my weight from this morning. And, congratulations on your reduction Sarah. You're doing really great. The class I did yesterday had a bunch of no weights arm exercises throughout, and my arms and shoulders are sore today. No weights can still do a lot for your arms and shoulders. I can't believe how great your stats are . . 14 flights of stairs? Over 13,000 steps? That's great!
Lois, I'm really sorry to read about your foot/leg injury. Let us know what the doctor says. Wow. Just when you found a trainer, and this happens. That's really frustrating. First things first . . do whatever you have to do to let that heal. When I broke my foot, I found some YouTube video workouts that are done in a chair; at first I didn't think they could be any good, but they were a good workout. The woman's name is Caroline Jordan.
Katie, I agree with the ladies here that baby steps is the way to go. Just pick one habit to work on at a time, and practice your new habit for a week or more. Try to make it fun if you can. When I started out walking short distances after my heart surgery, I concentrated on just 4 steps at a time, making silly rhymes in my head (sometimes out loud, ha ha) like . . "I don't know but I've been told (I don't know but I've been told), that I'm really getting old (that I'm really getting old)" like an army marching chant. I made them funny if I could, and it helped keep me going because I was thinking about the rhymes as they came to me. Let us know what you're focus is for the week.
Kelly, hope you're family is all doing well, and that you're finding some time to focus on you. Looking forward to your post.0 -

Shocked, but not shocked. I did "stuff" this week, but obviously just enough to maintain. Some days I paid more attention to my activity and eating than others. This is definitely the start of busy season for us with added money stress, so I need and will get into a routine. I did manage to wake up on Tuesday and get on the treadmill at 5am. Couldn't manage it Wednesday or this morning due to lack of sleep, but it's a start. We're heading to North Dakota tomorrow for the night with the kids and Jodi for some car races and shopping. A little mini get away before school and hockey really ramp up. After that, my plan is to focus more.
Lois - So sorry to hear about your foot/leg injury. Hopefully they can get that sorted for you.
Sarah - Our temps have gone down too and it's definitely starting to feel more like Fall is coming. The daylight hours have dropped a ton too over the past week. I do really love Fall temps though. More manageable to sit outside and enjoy it.
Sheesh - Hope all is well with the fam. Did you manage to get much golfing in with the hubby this year?0 -
You are all simply amazing with the support. I am loving this group more and more.
Today I weighed 174 even! I am relating this to food poisoning last night. But I'll pretend I was amazing lol
I'm really trying to take out processed foods. Water is too hard because I really dislike water.
I'll start commenting more on all your lives the more I get familiar with them💕0 -
Glad to hear from you Katie, and I hope that you are feeling better. Food poisoning is awful and not a fun way to lose for sure. I can't remember if you said you log your food here on MFP, but I find that is critical for me. And as far as water goes, I make iced tea using herbal tea, which is a nice break from plain water. Like you, I try to watch out for processed food. Tonight we had dinner at Bonefish Grill because we had a gift card. Since they're a chain, their food is in the MFP database. It was a bit shocking how many calories were in Parmesan crusted trout, broccoli and potatoes. It was reminder that restaurants focus on making their foods taste good and whatever I think the calorie count should be is usually far less than it actually is.0

So happy to see everyone checking in this week.
Welcome Katie - and if you dislike water - have you tried flavoring it? In the summer I love cucumber, lemon or lime and mint. I make a massive pitcher and drink it all in one day. Or possibly watermelon, or any other citrus? UGH on the food poisoning. I don't envy that experience.
Kelly congrats on the maintain. I will take a maintain over a gain any day. Have fun at the races!!!
Sheesh - hoping life is calming down again.
Well, the dr. visit....so I am one of those that googles injuries and potentials. yada yada yada. Well, I didn't let myself down this round either. However, when the dr. confirmed my worst fear, I nearly lost it. Probable achilles tendon rupture - surgery. I had an MRI first thing this morning and I see Dr. again on Tuesday am once he has the MRI results. So I am sure I'll be scheduling surgery in the next week. Anyhow, the confirmation of what I had anticipated just really rocked me. I was not in a good head space last night. My daughter, Audrey, was trying to help guide me towards what I can do, and not what I am limited to do at the moment, but it just frustrated me and I had to hang up. I am back in a walking boot, though after surgery it will be in the boot for stability, but then non weight bearing for several weeks following and using a knee scooter as well. What I can do...well arms and shoulders are already getting a workout from the dang crutches. Core? Well, you don't realize how much your feet/lower extremities aid/impact by core work. Meal prep, yeah, well I can't stand for very long. Walking to/from the grill or oven with crutches. No thank you. So I am going to order the Factor meals again for the next couple of weeks anyhow. I need to get my food intake under control. My neighbor is coming over after work tonight. we shall have a drink, I'll cry and hopefully find my comfort spot somewhere in there. So much for getting on the ground and playing with Rhea. Found a new game to play with her at the table.
Hoping everyone has a great weekend.0 -
Ugh, Lois. I'm so sorry. Wow, achilles rupture. Yeah, that's surgery and PT. . terrible to have that to happen. Is there any possibility of having your trainer design a chair routine for you? Or are you going to delay starting with him completely? Let us know what the doctor says tomorrow.
Katie, glad to see your post. . I hope you're feeling better and ready to plan your next goal. Water drinking is difficult for me too. I filter what I drink through a Brita to improve the taste. I also like Powerade Zero here and there.
Kelly, how fun to go to North Dakota for car races. Maybe you're back today. Congrats on maintaining. And, no I haven't gotten a lot of golfing this year. It seemed like it was always raining on the days I could go. And, hubby's eye surgeries took a number of days out.
Sarah, my biggest complaint with restaurants is the size of the servings and the bread or chips before the meal (which is so hard to keep in check when you're hungry). I started looking at my plate and cutting the portions in half in my mind, and I just always ask for a box to take home the rest. It's just too much food for a short, old lady. And, you're right that the calories are off the charts.

Sheesh - until I know what's going on with my ankle, I have the trainer on hold. Once the dr. tells me what the plan is, then I can inquire about chair and alternative activities. The Dr. was anxious to get the MRI scheduled and potential surgery. He didn't really allow time for me to ask other qeustions...to be honest. He was calm when he got in, but then telling everyone to get stuff done asap. I got the call for the MRI scheduling within 10 mins of him stepping out of the room.
My arms and shoulders are pretty tired from the crutches. I'll know more tomorrow morning. And it still hurts like the dickens to do much of anything. Because of potential surgery, and not knowing when, I've cut out the advil so limiting to Tylenol only during the day. I failed to ask for any pain meds when I was there, so I'm using my Tramadol for my migraines at night. It seems to throb pretty bad when I'm sleeping. So Tylenol to manage the pain during the day. Icing feels good, though it doesn't do much for the swelling it does feel good at the moment.
I did buy a fancy Knee Rover scooter and it does make it easier to get around, though it weights 20+ lbs I highly doubt I'll be able to take it in/out of the car easily. But it's making getting around the house a whole lot easier! I bought the extra padding but because I'm so short, it makes it too tall - I'll probably be returning it. I'm actually using my toes to scoot and this is the lowest.0 -
Happy Tuesday everyone! Soooo ruptured achilles and some other tendon/ligament. Double whammy. Due to some pain in my calf, doc wanted to confirm no blood clots. Just got back from that. Clear. Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 330pm. He squeezed me in, so super thankful for that. I'll be in casts for next 3-4 weeks. I guess because of the shortening to connect everything back together, I'll have a ballerina type toe, pretty straight. Each week, they'll change the cast and change the position of my foot. Approx. 3 -4 weeks I will be at 90 and able to go back to my boot and then light weight bearing. PT will begin at that point as well. So we are talking a few months for recovery, almost a year for full - so I'll have to be careful once out of the cast. So trainer is on hold. My knee rover came in and I'm getting the hang of using it. Unfortunately, with being so short, even at the shortest setting, it's still too tall. So I've ordered a heavy duty junior version that will be here tomorrow. Hubby will box up the original and return it. I should start that asap. It's a lot of $$. The hospital just called and i've paid my deductible. UGH. My company does cover some of it (high deductible HSA plan), but I have to wait until I have the EOB to show it's been charged/paid and then wait for a check.
Oh hubby's new van arrived today. Coordinated with my son to come up on Sunday and we'll go sign, pay for and pick it up.
With all of that going on, I will be off the board for a few days. Hoping everyone does well with your goals for tomorrow's check in!0 -
Gosh Lois. . such a downer for you to go through this. Good luck with tomorrow's surgery. Sending healing thoughts your way.0
