Darn it! But that's what travel often does to me. Sorry that I've been MIA for the past week. I thought I mentioned it, but apparently I didn't. We took a short trip with another couple to Williamsburg, VA. We just needed a few days away and decided to choose that location because the leaves were at peak and the temps are moderate and it's a quiet, pretty town. We had dinner one night by candlelight at an Inn that cooks like they did in Colonial days. Pretty hard to try to log those foods in MFP, I must say!
And before we left, hubby came down with a bad cough and cold, so I had to take over some of the trip prep that he would ordinarily do. To be sure it was a common cold, he had a PCR test before we left and checked in with our doc. He did pretty well on the trip, but on the way home yesterday, he started wheezing, so he called the doc and went back in for another Covid test and a flu test. Everything was negative, so she gave him some cortizone and prescription cough syrup. (Unlike me, he's good about making an appointment with a doctor. I have avoided making an appointment for belly issues for a couple of weeks now, and still need to do that. I suspect it's a mild case of diverticulitis again or a little IBS. Either way, I've been practicing the old, "maybe if I ignore it, it will go away!")
Sheesh, I also have traditional Medicare, a Plan G with United of Omaha, and Part D for drugs. I don't want Medicare Advantage because I don't want to have to see in-network doctors. I've known of some people who developed a serious problem and were not able to see the specialists who were considered the best for their condition.
It was so great to check in here after I got back from walking and find a number of posts to read! It was like getting to visit with everyone. Kelly and Sheesh, it was my stubborn resolution to walk at least 10K steps a day that finally got me to the low 130's and every way now and then to the high 120's. (And I do mean every WAY now and again! LOL)
Williamsburg has great walking paths and so I got my 10K every day down there without having to hit the hotel fitness center. But since we were on the road for 3-1/2 hours yesterday, I had to drag my tired body down to the dreadmill and I barely made my 10K. I was sorely lacking in energy last night. I hate that I had to miss my class yesterday (and no, I still have not gotten myself to do the exercises here at home), but I have that tomorrow and I plan to go out this afternoon to buy some heavier leg weights. I increased my dumbbells by 1 pound week before last.
Lois, I saw on FB that your hubby was successful in getting his 6th degree, which is quite an accomplishment considering the fact that he had some injuries not that long ago. Hope your wounds are healing well and that you can soon get off the meds that make you fuzzy. I know it must make working a bit of a challenge.
Katie, losing a job is a tough thing, but like others have said, it may have opened you up for new opportunities. The job market here is also good for those seeking employment. A lot of people are taking advantage of this to make positive changes.
Kelly, I have also long admired how you and the kids' mom manage to function as a family unit. That is rare. I have had friends who broke up with people (before marriage) because they felt the stress of dealing with the former spouse would just be too much. You're a great example that that does not have to be the case.
Well before I hit the to-do list, I'll share my 7-day stats for the past week and my goals for next week.
Steps = 13,090
Stairs = 11 floors
Kcals burned = 1,891 (This was a total shock and I don't know why it was this good. Must be the outdoor walking during the trip!)
I didn't make either of my goals for last week, i.e., I gained weight and didn't do the third exercise session. So for this week, my goal is something entirely different. I am going to work harder at eating more unprocessed foods, i.e., fruits, vegetables, whole grains. Saturday will be a little tricky as we are having friends here for dinner, but if I can do that 6 days out of 7, I'll be satisfied.

So glad to get that number on the scale this morning! I did really well last week. But, coming home from vacation, it's likely mostly a water reduction.
Sarah, sorry to read your hubby was sick, and I hope you don't get it. My hubby was sick Monday and Tuesday this week. . sounds like a similar thing. . he tested negative for Covid. You averages are really great, and being on a trip / eating out has a definite impact on the scale, and your weight didn't go up much at all. Please get to the doctor to take care of your tummy issues before they have a chance to progress! BTW, we had our meeting today for our Medicare coverage renewal, and we opted once again for traditional Medicare, Plan G with Blue Cross of Utah, and part D drug plan. I had to change the drug plan to Humana today because the plan I had is dropping one of my needed medications. You really need to keep an eye on those drug coverage plans. I would love to see Williamsburg, especially in the fall. I've been to DC, Alexandria, Monte Cello, and Mount Vernon . . it's beautiful.
Lois, it seems you're getting more walking in, and improving slowly. Hubby also took Tramadol, but said it didn't really help his pain so he stopped. But, his is nerve pain. I'm hoping you'll soon get those wounds healed And, congratulations to your hubby!
Kelly, it takes maturity for all of you to achieve such great communication and relationships. I'm going to pass what you said along to my daughter. . maybe over time, things could get better. Right now, things are just okay. Not a lot of communication happening at all. Just dropping off and picking up.
Katie, looking forward to your post.

Forgot to mention, I'm so annoyed at MFP. They stopped allowing me to scan the bar code of foods without buying a monthly plan. Whatever, I'm not buying it. There are other apps, or even just counting my own calories (I've done that before). Also, I notice the site will be down tonight, fyi.0

Sheesh - Great reduction! That's odd about MFP not allowing you to scan. I don't log my food (yet) but I just checked and mine still let's me.
I should mention that things weren't fantastic with Shawn and Jodi before I came along. They communicated but only when and if they had to. In the beginning it was difficult. I even brought up with Shawn how it might be a good idea for me to go for coffee or lunch with Jodi, just to chat. He was reluctant, understandably. It took years for us to get the way we are now. Slowly but surely though. Once we all understood each others sides, once they each got over their failed marriage issues and once we all weren't threatened by each other, that's when things got better. Now we just try to work as a team and communicate about the kids as much as possible. It also helps with the kids cause they now know they can't play us off each other lol
Sarah - sounds like you had a great relaxing trip. I could use one of those. Hopefully your hubby is on the upward trend. There are a few people around here that have colds too. All testing negative. I guess it's just that time of year. Great idea for this week's goal!
I'm pretty tired this morning, but I managed to wake up and get the treadmill done. It's 7:05am and I have 5700 steps, so I'm on my way to day 7 of my over 10k steps!

Quick update. No clue what I weigh but..... I got a new job already. I am a firm believer that things also happen as they should. God closed that door and open this one for a reason. I work in HR. I will weigh tomorrow and post about all of you!!!1

Congratulations on the job, Katie! Good for you. Improving your life isn't easy, but you've got this.
Kelly, now I'm even more annoyed with MFP. I checked again, and I cannot scan the barcodes with my iPhone to get the nutritional information instantly without buying the subscription. Argh. Being Canadian has many perks, lol. Also, I saved what you said about your efforts with your hubby's ex . . I'm sure it wasn't easy, but so worth it, especially for the kids. If you don't mind, I'll let my daughter read it. Maybe GRADUALLY they can work toward it.1 -
Katie - That's fantastic! Congrats on the new job
Sheesh - Definitely feel free to share with your daughter!0 -
Happy Monday everyone. Katie, I am so happy to see the post about your new job. I just feel like you're at the beginning of many positive changes. As I look back, some things that felt awful when they happened to me turned out to be blessings, as I resist change and tend to make changes only when something forces me to do that.
My goal for this week has been a bit of challenge. Although we weren't here, we bought Halloween candy in case our pet sitter was here and the doorbell rang. That big bowl was still sitting full when we got back. And Saturday evening we had friends for dinner, so I had dessert, and cream instead of lowfat milk in my coffee, and a few other things I might normally pass on. It was such a great night though. We have been in a very unseasonable warm spell and so we were able to eat on the patio and watch a beautiful moon rise as we had dessert. And my friend, who is so outgoing and warm, reminded me to just be more positive and accepting.
I also agreed to do an interview with CDC on Friday regarding my many years working in health comm with that agency. That reminded that although my final days were not that good, I had many good years and most of the people I worked with valued me. (Just not the last contracting company that wanted younger people they could pay less! .) But I found that now there are not one, or two, but three people sharing my old job. I'm sure they must do other things, too, but apparently no one has been able or willing to step in and just do the job. I'd love to ask that contracting company, "And how's that working fer ya?" LOL
But back to my goal, I have increased vegetables and fruit, but the scale is stuck, and I'm pretty sure it's due to the extra sugar. In addition to the items mentioned earlier, the friends who came to dinner gave us some wonderful caramel fudge, and I had a piece of that, and hubby bought some gummy bears that have called my name a few times. So arghhh! I think my goal for next week will be reducing added sugar.
Well, time to get rolling. This is a busy week with appointments, including one that requires a lot of paperwork beforehand. I did get the results from the blood work done on Friday. My TSH is still a little too low, so my doc is reducing my Synthroid by another half tablet a week. Now I take only one per day. Oddly, my walking buddy who had her thyroid removed due to cancer is also experiencing lower TSH levels. Makes me wonder about the quality control of meds these days, as we both take name brand Synthroid.
