Hi everyone. This will be short because we are still scrambling to get out of here. We were supposed to leave at 9 a.m., but hubby had a work emergency and here we are still at 12:15p.m. I also had to deal with the transfer of an old IRA. It has been a massive headache. We are likely to still be here when the house sitter arrives later this afternoon. Surprise, surprise!
Here are my 7-day averages for last week. I'm sure next week will look nothing like this.
Steps = 11,009
Daily kcals burned = 1,771
Stairs = 14 floors
My goal is just do the best I can to get in a little walking and to eat moderate portions of all the holiday treats. Walking will be a challenge since there is a very unusual wave of very cold weather hitting the south. But all we can do is the best we can do. As my hubby always says, "Your best will be good enough."
Hope everyone has a very merry and safe Christmas. I'm taking my laptop and will check in, if I can. Lots of work to do once we hit our destination.

Oh wow. Almost a full pound . .
Congratulations on the reduction Sarah! That's a lot, especially this time of year. I can see that your numbers show you put in the work, so you deserve it.
Work emergencies always seem to happen when leaving on a trip, lol. Safe and healthy travels to you and your hubby. Enjoy your Christmas, and check in if you can.0 -

NICE! Super surprising though as we took the kids for wings last night and I had a couple beers. Whatever I'm doing is working. I'll take it!
I still have a lingering cold. It's mostly gone but this dry cough is ridiculous. I started getting a bit stuffed up again during the night too. It just won't totally go away. Other than that, I feel good.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas! Safe travels to everyone.0 -
Just jumping on to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. A safe, healthy, happy and prosperous New Year. We will hit the ground running (or hobbling in my case). I haven't been upstairs where the scale is, nor have I had a dr appt to get weighed in so I'm just moving along over here.
My daughter arrived and she's motivated to eat healthier and watching her portion control so that's going to be helpful over here. We will begin holiday dinner prep tonight - just browning the Italian sausage and starting my lasagna/manicotti sauce base for assembly tomorrow. We are doing our beef stew and sourdough bowls for Christmas Eve luminaries and ham, lasagna and manicotti for Christmas dinner (the family is split on choosing lasagna or manicotti so I make a pan or two of each and freeze/distribute what's left over). I truly only cook these meals for Christmas Eve and Christmas day. We'll have a four hour cooking session tomorrow morning to complete them and then clean up. Then I'll take a nap and rest so I can have fun and be helpful later in the day. I keep forgetting I'm recovering still and I get wiped out and grumpy/pain if I don't take some down time earlier in the day.
Doc says all looks to be healing well and was happier with my range of motion and strength yesterday. Amazing how much progress I am making now that the incisions are healing and I'm doing my home exercises daily. I finished with in-home PT and she gave me a few exercises that truly kicked my butt the other day (she just wanted to show me a few advanced ones to progress to - they knocked me out and told me that I still have a bit to go to do those again - haha). I will begin outpatient therapy next Friday.
We may not be traveling to Cali after Christmas. Auntie called and she and our cousin currently may have a cold. They will do a COVID test on Saturday and we'll check in to see what's going on with them. We can't chance even getting a cold right now, so we'll decide after our facetime on Saturday on whether or not we are going to go. Hubby doesn't get a lot of time off, so we really wanted to see mom's sister as she's aging, but again, we just can't take the chance of getting ill ourselves. She's 89 and is showing her age since mom passed. It's a long way to go for a drive by visit. I know if we go, we'll end up visiting for quite a while...and now we will definitely be masked up if we decide to go.
And here's my super duper exciting news and Christmas present. My son in law was just promoted and they will be re-assigned. Their next location is - Camp Pendelton in California, near San Diego. So they will be moving there in APRIL. So my daughter and son in law will soon be stateside and reachable, and visitable. We are over the moon excited. Hoping we'll be able to visit over the Memorial Day holiday.
From my family to yours, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and Happy New Year to you!!!

Happy Christmas Eve everyone. I am finally getting a chance to check in and try to log some food. I know that that will not be accurate since a lot is food we are picking up at various places, but I can do my best.
My statement about temps in the 30s was a ridiculous pipe dream. It was 8 degrees when we got up this morning. I don't think it broke 20 degrees yesterday and the wind was wicked. So much for the sunny south. Needless to say, between two days on the road and a day trapped in a house with no TM--my steps are abysmal. And I doubt they improve over the next few days.
The first leg of the trip was tough. Hubby had a work situation come up and instead of leaving at 9 a.m., we left at 2:30 p.m. and hit holiday and early rush hour traffic, complicated by several accidents. And then we had a very scary situation on Wednesday night. I was driving and we were a few miles south of Charlottesville, VA, on Rt. 29. It's a 4-lane highway with a large median with trees and grass between the north and the southbound lanes. I was driving in the lefthand lane and there was a car to my right. Suddenly another car crested a hill, and it was coming right toward us driving in the wrong direction with its lights on bright and coming at a fast speed. I had only a moment to move over to the right, and he raced past us with inches to spare. We almost were hit head on! So I immediately pulled over to the shoulder, turned on my emergency flashers, and called the state police. They said two other cars had also just called in to the report this situation. It happened so fast, I didn't even have time to be afraid until afterwards. We were glad we had only another hour or so until we stopped for the night.
The excitement continued last night. We got a call that my first cousin, who is up from the coast, fell at his Mom's home and was medivaced to the hospital. His mom is the aunt who hosts the family for brunch on Christmas, so I assume there's a major change in plans. And then we drove to the town I grew up in to see the Christmas lights. The town is known for this. And while we were gone, my sister's little poodle found a bag of Hershey kisses and ate a lot of them. So we had to contact our vet tech for advice because their vet office was closed. She told us how to induce vomiting and what to watch for. Fortunately, today, the little candy thief seems just fine. But what a scare. She's their "baby."
So soon, I'll be up to my elbows in food preparation for an early dinner here today. None of this is doing much for my intake or my activity, but hopefully, I can make adjustments once the holidays are over.
Kelly and Lois, it's good to hear that you have both seen some improvement. Sheesh, hope all is well with you. Hope everyone finds some joy and peace as we head through the holidays to 2023.0 -

Here I am!!! I have not died just going through life.
I was supposed to be divorced on 12/20 but that did not happen because he is delaying the process. He did say that he would never divorce me. I am not sure how I did not see these signs before we got married. So there is that.
I started the CrossFit gym and love it so much. I am not sure why I am gaining weight other than muscle weight. I am not eating more at all but working out more.
Christmas was great and peaceful not having to go to the In-laws that are so negative and judgmental. My children each received only 3 presents because I believe that Jesus received 3 and if anyone should get presents that is what they should get given it is his birthday and not ours. Even my daughters asked why they get presents when it is Jesus birthday and not theirs. I said that was a great question. They surely appreciated the 3 gifts rather than a million.
Geesh- how is the trainer going? I saw that you said it was delayed. Did you resume yet? What exercises do you work on with that trainer?
Sarah- Your trip to your sisters sounds like a good old Frozen time! Here in Wisconsin it is freezing cold. Literally we cancelled school because it felt like -30 outside. Kids cannot walk to school in that. I am excited for 22 today! You are doing great getting those steps in.
Kelly- 2 lbs! WAY TO GO. NO matter how it happened, it happened and that is awesome. So proud of your work.
Last- I am so excited to hear that you are healing. I have prayed for you. I could not imagine all that you are going through but you have been a warrior through it all.
Cheers to the last week of this year and on to the next!0
