Wow, I just typed January! 2023 is almost here. And, my weight is up, so a major goal has to be reduction. My workouts are pretty good, although my trainer had to cancel last Monday. But, I've been closing my rings and getting my cardio workouts done, so I know it's purely intake. My goal for this week is to eliminate sugar, exemption for New Year's Eve only, lol!

This morning I had a haircut scheduled, but my stylist has the flu and cancelled. It's still to be determined whether I'll have playdates today, since the kids have been out of school and son's family out of town. Same for family zoom. So, I have no excuse to not get a workout done today. We had a nice holiday with daughter and her family staying overnight on Christmas Eve Eve to celebrate with us here. We drove to their place Christmas afternoon for a nice time seeing the baby with her new toys.

Sarah, I can't imagine the near head-on experience you had!! What the hell was wrong with that person? I'm so glad you were alert and able to avoid a crash!! And, all the drama with your sister's dog, etc. Wow. Maybe you and hubby will find a way to de-stress after the holidays. I hope so.

Lois, I'm so glad you're improving and healing. And, it's great news about your daughter and son-in-law moving to San Diego! I'm very happy for you, and I see trips to San Diego in your future, lol.

Kelly, congratulations on your continued reduction! You're an inspiration for me . . it CAN be done in spite of weather, flu, and busy schedules. . great job.

Well, it's snowing again here today, which is good. Hubby gave me some new snowshoes and poles for Christmas, so he and I have planned to go next Tuesday (after the holiday). He knows I miss the cabin, so we plan to get outside even though we can't go there ;( There are plenty of places to get outside here. We might also go skiing. :)

Happy New Year!

    Katie, I didn't see your post before starting the new week. I'm sorry your soon-to-be-ex is making the divorce difficult. Utah is a no fault divorce state, so I don't think one party can delay it, but I'm not sure because I've never been divorced. What are the laws in Wisconsin? How long can he delay it? I'm happy for you that you've joined a gym and are getting workouts there :) Beyond weight loss, it's so great for stress.

    To answer your question, my trainer designs a weight training workout twice a week for me. I do cardio on my own. She has me do 36 sets (divided into 3 groups of 4 movements, done through 3 times per group) I have a gym in my home, so she mixes it up (we do full body every workout) with dumbbells, cable machine, bands, TRX, or bodyweight. It's always tough! It's really helped my body composition and bones.

    Your Christmas sounds lovely. When I was a kid, we were limited to 3 small gifts from Santa, and I think that's plenty. I hope you have a Happy New Year!

    Ah ok, that makes sense. The week before I was 156.3 and I didn't understand how the drop happened. Maybe dehydration that one week since I did have beer the night before my weigh in last week? Who knows. I do know that my intake hasn't been great this week. More carbs than I'd like cause they're easy. Definitely have to get more dialed in with the eating.

    So nice to hear that everyone had a good Christmas.
    Sarah, omigoodness that would have been terrifying!! I would have been shaking after for sure. I'm sure you never found out what happened with the other vehicle. Hoping that it wasn't someone going through some kind of medical situation.
    Great job on the workouts Sheesh! That's exciting about the snowshoes! Hopefully you have plenty of opportunities to use them. They would definitely come in handy if you lived in Buffalo. Wow that's crazy what's happening there!
    Lois that's fantastic news about your son!! How exciting.
    Katie, great job on the workouts. Sorry to hear that your ex is making things difficult.

    Well, I've been "sick" or struggling with this damn cold since the beginning of December. I'm fairly certain I have a sinus infection, but I'll find out this morning at my doctors appointment. Hopefully some meds help me out as this congestion and headaches are driving me nuts.

    Anyone have any fun plans for New Years Eve?

    Hello, all. I am so happy to finally be at home and also able to get into the groups here on MFP. I tried yesterday and again this morning with no luck but decided to give it one last whirl a few minutes ago and was successful. A message appeared earlier saying they were working on the problem.

    My weight above is today's weight, as I was not able to weigh yesterday morning at the hotel. It's not as bad as I feared. Eating healthy is hard at my sister's and having holiday treats around just complicates it. But the biggest factor this time was lack of exercise. It was so cold we could not get outside to walk. With the wind chill it was in the negative numbers some of the time and below freezing all of the time, and I simply didn't take the right gear to get out in that. And my sister has a one-story house, so my stair count was next to nothing. Being in a house with an invalid means lots of sitting around. Add to that all the car time, and I had the following 7-day averages:

    Steps = 4,910
    kcals burned = 1,525
    Stairs = 5 floors

    So, yes--abysmal.

    Tuesday night I did get my 10K steps on the TM at the hotel, and I shook off my trip fatigue and got them in on my own TM last night. But I still need to step it up this week, particularly since my class does not start again until January 5.

    Hubby's plan for 2023 is to try to eat a Mediterranean diet as much as he can, and so I'll join him. I don't think we'll be happy doing this 100% (I like red meat and something sweet every now and again), but we hope to at least eat a lot healthier. The cousin I mentioned who suffered a fall did so because he had mini-stroke and he has now been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, too. And all this at the age of 60! But he's one of those people who has never taken care of himself. You can't change inherited risks, but you can change a lot of things that increases those risks. So that's our goal for 2023. Cardiovascular risk reduction.

    Sheesh, snowshoeing sounds like a lot of fun. I have always wanted to try it and cross-country skiing. But we don't get a lot of snow here, and of course next to none where I grew up, so it's still on my "I'd like to" list.

    Lois, I'm glad to hear that you and your hubby are both on the road to recovery and have some good things to look forward to in the New Year.

    Kelly, I hope that if you do have a sinus infection, the doc can give you something to knock it out quickly. And I'm glad it's not Covid. Hubby is also sniffing and sneezing today and just tested himself. It's negative, thank goodness. I guess the usual wintertime colds are just out there. Take good care of yourself.

    And Katie, it's good to hear from you. I'm sorry that you're running into issues with your soon-to-be ex, but I'm sure that things will work out soon. Lawyers have seen this type many times and know how to deal with them. Just keep doing the next right thing and take good care of yourself.

    Well, I'm unpacked but still have lots of things on my to-do list, so I'll sign off for now. My goal for this week is to get this extra pound off. We do have a dinner party to attend on New Year's Eve, but it's a small group and the menu sounds pretty healthy, so I should be able to make some progress.

    Will check in again soon.

    Well, our New Years Eve plans have changed. Hubby has yet another cold. I think this is the third one since late October. Again, he has no idea where he caught it. My sister's kids and grands came through the afternoon and evening on Christmas Eve, and there was never more than 10 or 12 people in a very large room, and no one appeared to have symptoms. We wore masks when we were in public. But, he started with the stuffy nose the day we got back and it's now moving into his chest again. He called his doc, did a home covid test, and also went to the health department for a PCR test. All negative. But he doesn't want to risk making anyone sick, so I'm going solo to our friends' dinner party tonight. It was supposed to be four couples, and we split up the menu. We don't want them to be missing two dishes on that menu, so I will take the fruit salad and mashed potatoes and go for a little while.

    I just got back from the library and the weather is terrible out there tonight. The temps are warmer, but it's raining and there's heavy fog. The lake looks pretty with the fog rising from it, but the roads are also foggy, and I know that traffic will be heavy and that some people will drive when they've had something alcoholic to drink. So I plan to get home before most parties let out.

    I've somehow been getting my 10K steps since we got home, but I'm having trouble getting more than that, and I'm not doing as well as I'd like with intake. So I'm also going to have to leave time before bedtime to hit the TM and try to moderate what I eat and drink at the gathering.

    I hope all of you are well, and I hope you do something safe and fun to say goodbye to 2022 and hello to 2023. I also hope that the new year will bring health and happy times to us all.

    Happy Nee Year everyone. We’ll 2023 is starting off challenging as well - UGH. So we cancelled our day after Christmas trip to San Diego because auntie and a cousin had colds. We didn’t want to catch it. So we stayed home. We’ll daughter a friend and I took a lunch trip to an olive mill. We did go to red lobster for dinner Friday. Last night I HAVE A DANG COLD which will turn into a sinus infection or an upper respiratory infection in the next couple of days. I am so upset. Sarah. I’m feeling you and your hubby’s pain. I did wear a mask the first time in the olive kill store but not the 2nd and we had lunch on the patio. And my daughter and friend are both ok so I’m leading it back to hubby and his respiratory infection from the surgical intubation irritation. We just started him on antibiotics last Wednesday.

    Drinking tons of hot water with lemon and honey. I’ve rested all day today and ordered pho ga from our favorite place

    The kids and Rhea were here for NYE. We had a great time and fortunately I didn’t start to feel yucky until after they left. Rhea loved the fireworks but wore headphones for the booms. But she said it was “amazing”. We did them at 730pm. She lasted until almost 11 and called her mom and dad up the stairs to get her to bed. She was too cute

    I’ve started PT. I’m hoping to feel better by my appt on Wednesday
