May start ozempic

Hi! My doctor mentioned starting me on Ozempic. I have type 2 diabetes (currently take metformin) and polycystic ovarian syndrome (and therefore insulin resistance). I need to lose weight of course.

So I am doing a little “research” before my appointment in two weeks. I am always so scared to start new meds so I am hoping I can get good results with the lowest dose.

    Hi Sara,

I also have PCOS. I tried metformin for 2 years and never got past the horrible side effects, and I also continued to gain weight on it. Ozempic has been a completely different story for me. Everyone reacts differently to meds, but for me, it was worth it.

Whatever you decide, I wish you good luck!

    Best,
    Marki

Thank you for sharing! My doctor has put in a prescription in for Ozempic, so as long as the pharmacy has it in stock, I plan to start this week. I am so nervous about side effects!

PCOS is terrible, isn’t it? Loves to keep the extra weight on us, doesn’t it?!

Do you still take the metformin in addition to the Ozempic? My doctor is keeping me on it for now and hopefully can wean off and just use the Ozempic (if all goes well). I do worry about hypoglycemia…

I gave up metformin long ago. I told my doctor I couldn't take the side effects any more.

I have gotten a little hypoglycemic a time or two. Eat small frequent meals is my best advice. I even keep a small snack handy on my nightstand (graham crackers) in case I wake up in the middle of the night feeling like I need to eat something. Usually half a graham cracker with some water holds me over until morning.

I have PCOS as well. Although I am now 50 and have an IUD, my symptoms are nothing anymore. I just started Ozempic last Thursday and have done well.

Good luck on your journey, and don't worry about taking that step. 😊

Thank you both! My prescription is ready for pickup today. I’m nervous! Will start Thursday since I will work from home Friday and then of course it is the weekend so if side effects are bad, I can be home!

That's a great plan! Be home for side effects!

Let us know how you do with it.

Hi! Took it around 8:00 p.m. and am nervous about tomorrow and side effects (especially since I have to go into work tomorrow after all). 🤞🏻

I’ll definitely keep you posted! I am such a worrier - I worried all day about starting it. And reading internet stories did not help. 🙄

How were your side effects? Mine calmed down after a day or so. Just had my 2nd shot and was worried, but my side effects were minimal. Next week I increase my dosage so we shall see.

Hi! So far, so good with the side effects. Knock wood!!! I have felt more thirsty/dry mouth but that is no big deal. I’m hoping things continue this way. I am worried about the second dose of course!

I am happy to hear your side effects were minimal with the second shot. Let’s keep each other posted!
