Well, down a little. I've closed all my rings for a week or more, and the butt challenge is almost done. I started later so there's a couple of days left. I'll be glad when it's done, but it does seem to have made my legs stronger and my butt rounder :D Sarah, my knees get sore but nothing that ibuprofen and osteo biflex doesn't take care of, so I just keep doing lunges and squats!

Lois, I'm so happy that you are so much improved and making your therapists laugh! I know you'll keep doing all you can, and before you know it you'll be in Disneyland walking all over that place. I'm not sure if I posted about the Grand Californian Hotel here before, but that place is so nice. We really enjoyed it, but did I tell you about the morning the alarms all went off and they evacuated us out of the hotel? It was very early, and a lot of people (including me) were still in their pjs. It was nothing (a kid pulling a fire alarm??) but hubby and I went to one of the Starbucks outside the hotel and sat at a table and had coffee and breakfast sandwiches in our pajamas and robe. Eventually our kids texted and came to find us, by then they were dressed, and they were laughing their a**es off at us, and snapping pics, LOL.

Sarah, I hope you can find a replacement for your walking. I know the TM is a drag, but most of my walking is on one as well. We're in a frozen state of weather currently, so no outdoor walking for me. It's hard to find ways to get a cardio workout.

Kelly, I hope you're doing well in your frozen area of the world. Great job on your reduction.

Katie, I look forward to reading your post soon. Hope all is well.

    I'm sorry I haven't posted much in the last couple of weeks. I usually post during the day while I'm on my work laptop, but work has been super busy lately. Today I'm at home working (I usually work at home on Wednesdays) but it's just as busy. Kids hockey has also been insane lately, with something every single night. I'm proud to say that I've kept up with my activity and steps. I have closed all of my apple rings since and have gotten over 10k steps daily since October 28. I have even been slightly upping my calorie burn goal each week. I have not been great at monitoring what I eat, but I'm managing the best I can right now. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow. It's been brutally cold here for the past week. I don't want to complain though, as we have actually had a beautiful winter this year, especially compared to last year's craziness. The cold snap is supposed to end this weekend. It's tough though, as it seems like everyone I know has or is going on winter hot trips. We decided not to go this year, due to the costs and are planning a trip for next winter instead. Fingers crossed that happens.

    It has been a sad few days for my coworker and friend. Her boyfriend was walking their 2 dogs (one his and one hers) on Saturday night and her dog got away from him, in an attempt to run home to her. Unfortunately, the poor pup was hit by a car and passed away. It happened right outside her home and the person didn't even stop. She ran out in her bare feet and attempted to give CPR, but by the time they got to the vet, it was too late. Her dog and the bond they had was VERY similar to the bond I have with my dog and they are around the same age. We both got our dogs during covid and they have similar names too. He wasn't even 3 years old yet. Poor thing. Obviously my coworker is devastated, as that was her baby. I can't even imagine losing my dog in that horrible way. It's all I have been able to think about lately, as I feel so badly for her. Time will be the only thing that will help her. :'(

    Happy Wednesday ladies. Since we cleared the drain in the downstairs tub, I haven't been upstairs in the morning, nor have I even thought about stepping on the scale when I was up there. I'll have to make a trip up just for that purpose. I am too afraid to go up after mid day food and fully clothed. That might just scare the bejesus outta me. possibly Friday morning (I have early dr. appt tomorrow and don't want to stress myself getting up/down. Mornings are so hard for me to get going. Just started using the new CPAP machine, and so far, not feeling the benefits of it yet, still adjusting to it and waking often. Therapy continues 3/week except this week with two dr. appts. Hubby had his yesterday, he's now out of his sling but still has lots of restrictions. Tomorrow is my ortho follow up. Tonight I'm meeting an old friend for dinner, and I'm loking forward to getting out and seeing her. We'll be having street tacos and a churro split. No margarita this round as I'm still taking the heavy meds at night.

    Sheesh - Great job closing your rings and your reduction!!!

    We've never stayed at the Grand Californian, it has been booked every time we've decided to go (or ridiculously priced in comparison). But since we're booking almost a year out, we were able to make it work. We've stayed at Disneyland Hotel several times and Paradise Pier a few times as well. I prefer Disneyland over Paradise Pier and I'm sure we'll prefer the Grand Californian (it is the newest of them). Also, Disneyland and Paradise are going through some renovations. Anyhow, I think I stated that we opted for the 3 bedroom suite versus individual rooms for this round. That way Grammy/Grandpa and Auntie/Uncle can help with Rhea and bedtime (we will each take a night to put Rhea down to bed and the other two couples get to stay out all night - Grammy/Grandpa selected Sunday as we'll be pretty tired ourselves by then - haha). With all of us in one suite, we don't have to go running down the halls as you can only connect 2 rooms. Everyone (except Rhea - too many sleeps to tell her yet) is super excited. When hubby and I were on our house hunting trip to AZ a gazillion years ago, two of the five nights we were at the hotel, we had the fire alarms going off and we were also in our pjs. However, we were in downtown Phoenix and the area was not the best (didn't know until we got here). I would have been like you and hit up a Starbucks as well.

    Kelly - keep doing what you're doing. Kids are only young once and you'll look back on this time with great memories of them and not being as tired as you are, nor even think that you missed out on anything for you. You are doing a great job!!!

    Sarah - I won't talk about weather. It's been cold (for us) here. I'm actually wearing long sleeves AND SOCKS. Like full socks, not just my running no show socks. We've been waking with frost and I think it's been in the mid 50's during the day. I know I've been cold. Though I'm not released to use my TM yet, heck walking to the mailbox and back I need to put on my brace and then I hurt after. Do what you can while you can :)

    Hi, all. I've been on the go all day and had only 5 minutes before dinner to quickly pay a bill and post my weight so you'll know that I'm alive and well. I still have to walk after I get out of the kitchen, so I'll be back to read and chat either late tonight or tomorrow after my class. So glad to see three posts here and looking forward to reading them. :smile:

    Quickly posting my weigh in from this morning. I'm good with that.
    Off to a doctor's appointment this morning. Follow up from my physical so I'll get my bloodwork results. I have a feeling my iron is low again, but we'll see.
    Chat later.

    Had the follow up with surgeon. Recovery is progressing. Therapy is good. Still need to work on some of the flexing and walking. Going to add daily walks beginning with two houses each direction. Going from the parking lot to the dr office causes the Achilles area to be very sore - too sore per the doc. So we need to slow down and build up. Adding the boot back in to allow the foot to truly "rest" for an hour or two. Hoping that short term adjusting here will reduce the longer term "gimp/limp". Adding the brace back in for all walks, just not PT. I need to go to the mall and get another pair of shoes that will fit with my brace in it as well. So that is a priority for this weekend.

    Sarah - great reduction!! Keep it going!

    Kelly - maintain is not a gain. Keep it going! Good luck at the dr.

    Hi, all. Well, after class on Thursday won. It was almost 10 p.m. when I finally got on the TM last night.

    Congrats Sheesh and Kelly on getting those rings closed. And Kelly, all I can say about your getting 10K steps every day since October 28 is "wow." Or make that double wow! I get 10K most days, but the Christmas travel, super cold with no TM at my sister's, and then Covid really took a bite out of my December and January stats. The fact you've done this with your cold weather, work, holidays, kids, etc. is such a great accomplishment. This past week, I finally got 10K every day, but I'm still not up to where I was when I had someone to walk with back in the fall. And mentioning stats, here are my 7-day averages for last week:

    Steps = 11,639
    Kcals burned = 1,731
    Stairs = 16 floors

    And Kelly, when I read your post about your coworker's dog, my heart just hurt. Our pets are family members and to lose one like that is beyond horrible. I hope everyone rallies around her, although I know it will just take time to get to a point even close to acceptance. And the fact that the driver didn't stop, just makes me furious. People like that should be horse-whipped.

    Sheesh and Lois, we also have fire alarm in the hotel stories. Once it happened very early in the morning at a hotel in Williamsburg, Virginia, and like you, we headed to the Starbucks down the road. Because my hubby is in public safety, he did not even give me time to get on my robe (which was still in a suitcase). So I sat in the car while he went in and got us coffee and danish of some type. Another time, it happened in a hotel in Ocean City, Maryland, in February. It was so cold with the winter wind ripping off of the ocean that water from a fire hose coated the outside of the hotel in ice! The kicker to this story is that the elevators were not working and there was a woman in the hotel who was obese and had some other type of issue, so she could not walk down the stairs. So my hubby and one of our friends put her in a straight chair and carried her down about five flights of stairs. It about killed them! But her family members were not in good shape, and we couldn't leave someone, so my girlfriend and I just waited for our guys in parking lot, hoping that they'd make it. That was probably 20 years ago. No way they could do it today.

    Lois, little bit by little bit, you'll make it back to where you can also walk and do other physical things. When you said that even going to the mailbox hurts, it really made me think about how tiring and frustrating recovery from an injury can be. But now you've got that Disney trip as a goal to work toward, and I think and hope that recovery is slower at first and then picks up the pace as everything heals.

    I read an article this week that said that even a couple of minutes of activity after eating is important for your metabolism. I have noticed lately that I feel very sluggish for a short time after I eat. I know it has to do with my blood sugar, so I need to mention it to my doc. But I am also going to try to start moving for few minutes immediately after meals. I tend to lump most of my activity into a small range of time. So moving for a few minutes after meals is a one of my goals for next week. Another is adding a few minutes of vigorous activity to my regular routine. Since I expect that this will make me sore, I'll aim for doing that three days this coming week and see how it goes.

    Well, I need to run out for limes for dinner, and I want to do that before the schools let out, so I'll sign off for now. Katie, we hope you'll check in soon.

    Good morning,
    Great to read the posts and catch up.
    Sarah, Just as you congratulate me on my steps, yesterday I changed my mindset and goals to remove the 10k step requirement. Obviously getting steps is important, but I was making it so important, that I wasn't focusing on the right areas of improving my body. So instead, I have increased my apple watch ring calorie burn goals and will continue to, as long as it is mostly attainable.
    Instead of walking up to walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes this morning, I went on my spin bike for 15 minutes and then did a 21 minute weight/cross training workout on my ipad. It's amazing how great I feel after that. I also made sure I had some eggs and a piece of my low carb bread for breakfast, after my workout to help fuel me through the day.

    I got some difficult to hear, but eye opening news from my doctor yesterday. My bloodwork came back mostly all good, except my blood sugar is in the pre-diabetic range at 6.5. The previous year it was apparently 6.1, but he only briefly mentioned it then so I didn't pay much attention at that point. He told me that because my Dad has diabetes, combined with my ethnicity, I have a higher chance of developing diabetes in general. I always kind of knew this, just honestly never really paid attention as it was more of a thought of "it'll never happen to me". My doctor said it's something to be aware of, but that diet and exercise should help. He told me if I'm going to lose weight, to only lose about 5-7lbs, if that. I booked a follow up appointment with him for March. I have already been doing great since my bloodwork was taken and have lost some weight, plus increased my physical activity, so I'm worried, but more just aware. Small changes will help.

    Sheesh - great job with the reduction, the butt challenge and the closing of the rings!

    Lois - It seems like you're definitely headed in the right direction! I love your mindset for sure. Little goals and a little bit each day, will make for a good recovery! Great job!

    Kelly, I agree that the important thing is that we get regular physical activity in, and I meant the congratulations more for that than for an actual step count (but I know how hard it is to get to10K!). I also read all of the time about the importance of mixing things up, so your new routine sounds good. The need to mix things up is one of the reasons I signed up for that class and why I plan to look into some other classes for the spring. And I really want to get my burn up, too. I set my goal for 1800 kcals a day, but I'm usually about 50 to 150 calories short of that. I know that all it would take would be amping up my speed or adding in some hill climbs or something. We had an unusually warm day on Monday, and I walked my route that includes killer hill. That day, I burned more than 1,900 kcals. But today, we are on the south edge of that super cold front coming across the county, and besides being cold, it's whipping up some serious wind.

    Well, time to get a few more things done. I tend to not want to be productive after dark. Thankfully, we are now far enough from December 21st to actually see a real difference in when the sun goes down. :)

    Hope everyone has a good weekend.
