Before WW I was just out there sort of adrift. When I stated WW I read the start up material and then found the Science Center on the WW website. A lot of what I read seemed to be at odds with other weight loss stuff I had internalized. But right now I can’t think of an example. But I decided something like this- I want to give WW my best shot. As of now if WW is for it, or my Dr says to do it, that’s what I do. Anything else I try to tune out.

I think I was on GOAD a couple of years before Steve aka steveOmania showed up. If I’m recalling correctly, Steve did a series of posts basically summarizing the (then) current WL research. Thanks again Steve. What I recall from that was that regardless of the path we took, we lost weight eating in a calorie deficit.

So I think the correct path either losing or maintaining is calorie counting and adjusting the numbers as the situation demands. That’s the science and the common sense. Our bodies are designed to survive hard times by storing excess calories as fat. But we live in a remarkable age. We have our difficulties, but lack of food is not one of them. So since our bodies are not exactly built for this we have to find a way to limit intake or be overweight.

Once we accept the basic science, it becomes common sense.

My INTJ personality type has as a characteristic “accepts no authority but his own”. So I’m inherently skeptical, and obviously always think I know best. My experience is the only thing that’s relevant. Of course, I'm also fully capable of rationalizing myself into or out of any position that seems advantageous.

So I think I know best, until my experience tells me someone else may know better. My history of failed weigh control efforts ultimately persuaded me that I didn’t know as much as I should. So, like George, I surrendered to my Higher WW Power and decided to simply follow their program and their rules.

Which is a long-winded way of saying that regarding weight loss, common sense for me is not very common. I’m like a horse; put a bale of hay or a 100# bag of oats in front of me, and I’ll eat until it’s gone or I explode. I need a framework to help me make those decisions.

I remain skeptical of the latest clickbait headline or article until I see something that proves it - something I’m willing to give credence to. Most of these articles have a position to sustain or an ax to grind, I think.

Well I believe for me I can pretty much toss common sense out the window. Not because it doesn't work but because, when my taste buds meet my empty stomach and my sense of smell begins to trigger both of the above then common sense get pushed way off to the side. Like nope! It doesn't exist. I have lately come to one conclusion that seems to be working for me. It's still hard to work it out but eating 5-6 times a day is becomming appealing for me. Of course their not all meals it just snacks healthy of course but I'm trying it out for awhile.

    It makes sense to me.

Science with a bit of training to be more intuitive within the framework of that science.
