Hello! I'm 56 and can tell you that being in my 50s has been quite an adventure. I feel like I woke up one morning with 20 extra pounds on my body, saggy fat under my boobs (4 boobs), back fat, and the list goes on. Oh...and my clothes don't fit. Sigh!! What I find crazy, I've been an avid runner for decades with three Boston Marathon qualifiers but for whatever reason, running in my 50s doesn't keep the fat off anymore. I'm somewhat of a healthy eater with the exception of sweets. I could eat sweets morning, noon, and night if I let myself. I need a major reset and motivation. I've let stress and anxiety run my life. UGH!
Question...how many of you have experienced anxiety issues in your 50s? What has helped you?

Hi there. I just joined this group to. I’m 56 and pretty healthy overall. The wild menopause stuff happened when I turned 50. I had no weight issues or mood problems prior to this time but wow menopause really changed things. I went low carb and really cleaned up my diet about 12 years ago. Lost weight felt great and I could ear well as long as I avoided wheat and other high carb foods. Menopause. Weight started creeping up, digestion Was terrible and very moody. What I noticed though was that when I ate a meal with tofu in it and felt less moody the next day. My daughter became vegan a few years back so I naturally started cooking with tofu. I guess women in some Asian countries that eat a lot of tofu have fewer problems with menopause symptoms. It might be worth a try. Just make sure it’s organic because soy beans are grown with a lot of pesticides. Some of the other traditional herbs for menopause may also be useful. Black kobash. If your really struggling an anti depressant prescribed by your doctor might help to.
As for the weight gain I’m experiencing, I’m finding that calorie counting via my fitness pal really useful. I thought I would hate it but now I can see where my daily calories coming from. I actually find it fun and I’ve lost a couple of pounds. Good luck! One more thing. Get exercise Take a walk. Helps me relax.😊1 -
Hi! I can definitely relate to the anxiety during menopause. Mine has been next level. I find going to the gym really helps. On Tuesday and Thursday I do a half an hour of weight training followed by an hour of spin class. I also find reading novels helps me to relax. I had to go on anxiety medication, and it is really helpful. What has been bothering most lately is a lack of energy, which is why I"ve really started working on my eating habits.1

I used to do weight training regularly and loved it. Stress, life, and my work schedule got in the way and I’ve struggled to find time and energy to get back to the gym. That’s another goal for me!1
