Hi everyone, my name is Jeff I’m 57.
I had afib, high blood pressure and sleep apnea and struggled with my weight for the past 20 years. I was pushing 280 lbs. I was constantly out of breath and sweating. I was on pills to keep my heart in rhythm and help prevent a stroke from the afib which made exercise difficult and I struggled with dieting
My cardiologist recommended weight
loss surgery and a second opinion
I talked to the chief cardiologist at Brigham and women’s in Boston
He was very blunt and said if I don’t lose weight I will have heart failure.
So I decided to have the weight loss surgery. After talking with my surgeon
We decided the gastric sleeve would be best for me. So after six months of trying to lose some weight before surgery, and a week of liquids before surgery, I lost 7 lbs down to 270 lbs on the day of surgery November 1st 2022
Dr recommended 4 weeks out of work.
I went back to work after 1 week. I felt fine so I went back to work.
My wife is a nurse so if she said I was ok, I’d be ok. I was fine
So long story short it’s been six months and I’ve lost 73 lbs. I drink 2 premier protein drinks a day. Protein is the most important nutrient to retain muscle. I also only eat 1200 calories a day
My wife and I have been going to gym for the last 10 weeks
The key is consistency and having your best friend (my wife) by your side is a huge plus.
I’m only at the beginning of my new life but the future looks great and I feel great
That’s it for now. I’ll keep you posted.
