As usual, I'm late with the Sunday reminder! We're off to a good start with @YinxFed and @project_shan - thanks! Here is who else we are hoping to hear from today:
@TessieMac833 & @graceojo999 You both missed last week! Don't forget today
@strong_fit_ells2 -
If I had a gallon of ice-cream right now, I'd probably eat the whole thing, and it's too early for wine. I'll go out to the garden and that should do the trick - just got a text that our 3day/wk caregiver is taking a new job and can't keep on with us. So with that, and my sister (the other caregiver) having knee surgery in July the stress level rises. But I'll go garden and just try to go with the flow............3

Welcome back @Pearl4686 .. so nice to have you back! 18 months of stress sounds like a lot... ease yourself back in and let us know how you're making out!
@jugar You have a great no nonsense approach. I completely agree it's best your non-negotiables or "musts" should be based on positive actions, and less about "will nots".
@lauren_989 Love that your partner in life is able to be your rock in that way.. so sorry you've been so sick. Your exercise was rocking last week and then boom.. hits a person like a ton of bricks. Glad the 23 hours of sleep has improved things somewhat. By the way, did I notice your running speed going up? Awesome work.
@eggfreak Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. When we have critical folks in our life that we depend on to ease the pressure and things fall through, that's so tough. You have so much on your plate and I understand the reaction of trying to soothe this morning but your choice to get out into nature instead is such a good one.
I have been thinking about who I am as a person now and what my non-negotiables are. One of the problems with my personality type and non-negotiables is that I am VERY all or nothing.. and I also feel very let down when I don't accomplish the things I think I should. I am not a relaxed easy going individual, let's just say that. So, if I get the list going too large, I start to get overwhelmed and I become paralyzed in that feeling.
So, here's what motivates me:- I wake up every day with the intention of hitting 10K steps (between actual steps and exercise equivalent). I don't always do it, but I strive for it. I can maintain a healthy balance here (I don't get too negative if I don't hit it, but it keeps it top of mind).
- I weigh myself every morning. I even have a travel scale so I can almost always weigh on trips. For me, this ensures I don't let myself go into a massive slide for weeks/months/years on end.
- Exercise is always tracked in MFP.

It might be good to tie the daily weighing to a plan for exactly what to do and for how long if you have a gain - in short, a clear, pre-decided course of action. You might say that after 3 days with a gain, you will track all your food for 3 days and stay within a particular plan of eating. Or until you have a loss (however small!) and keep it for 3 days, or whatever. 3 days is just a random number. Maybe after your certain number of days, you then must plan and execute one "perfect day", or whatever kind of action works for you. Just doing the weighing is helpful, but it also might induce feelings of failure and disappointment when there are gains. Having the turn-around plan already decided in advance is positive and makes the good feelings come back faster. The plan can be based on an amount, a number of days with a gain, or just about anything that is easy to notice and will automatically make your course of action happen immediately. Keeping the actions short is OK - you don't have to go all the way back to your lowest weight or anything drastic.5 -
By the way, team - WTG on being 3rd! We did well in Week 1. Let's keep it rolling!5

Happy Monday all.
We are mid heatwave, high 20s C/early 80s F, plus quite a bit of humidity, and sleep is proving to be elusive. There was a power cut at 4.45am, which turned our fans and white noises off, plus triggered various house alarms. Then the cats wanted feeding at 7.15, I went back to bed after and was dreaming about sleeping through a meeting at work, only to wake up at 8.55 with a 9am meeting! Later in the year I'm going to get quotes/see if it's feasible to have air conditioning added to our three bedrooms. We have it in the conservatory, but that's no use to anybody. The electrician comes tomorrow to look at our electrics in the garden, and I will ask about changing our bedroom light fitting to a ceiling fan.
We might get some thunderstorms later and I hope they don't miss us again, because they went right past yesterday. It must be a good month since we've had any rain, and I've lost 3 of the 4 cucumber plants I put out, my peas/beans are hanging on for dear life, and the seedlings in the greenhouse are struggling. My plot neighbour has given me some runner beans, and I can barely loosen the ground where they need to go. We did get our first harvest at the weekend though; some strawberries which were very tasty.
I'd like to try and keep my step count up (to 5000 per day) this week despite the heat; when I walked down to the allotment about 9pm yesterday it was very pleasant, but I was sweating walking back up! To answer your question @ashleycarole86, my non-negotiable is 2L of water per day. I figure it's something that should always be doable. I'd like to say sleep, but I'm not as good at prioritising sleep as our cats are.5 -

@ahleycarole86 when I am off. My Must-Do is movement. 10 min walk. 10 min workout. Something. When I move body, it is easier for me to make healthy food choices.
I did not check my weight Wed, but I did yesterday and today. I am actually down and it is TOM. Crazy. I will post my maintenance weight on Wed. I am doing well with eating. I have walked or workout everyday. I feel good. My clothes fit well.6 -
Happy Monday all!
@jugar Sorry I wasn't able to remind you that I wasn't going to be able to weigh in last week. But I'm back now
PW: 143.8 (I think)
CW: 144.2
Honestly, that's waaaay less damage than I expected considering that I was eating out all all last week due to being at that conference AND it's TOM....so, I'm not complaining.
Last week was a whirlwind.
On the 3rd, me and the wellness committee put on our first 1mi/5k/10k fun run and it went well! We had a good number of people show up and we're planning on how to be bigger and better next year!
The nutrition conference went really well and my presentation was successful I ended up getting dinner and only eating half so I could save the rest for lunch the following day. It seemed to work well.
This past weekend I taught at the Front Range Yoga Fest again and it's always a pleasure. I taught in an art gallery turned yoga studio and the owners invited me back and to teach art classes as well
THEN on Saturday, I attended a 50th wedding anniversary for some patients/friends and that was just so sweet! It was worth the almost 2 hr drive.
Now I'm ready to get back to my normal routine and regain some semblance of normalcy in my life4 -
That's a good idea @jugar
I also think I need to go back to a weekly tracking... I am having big swings between my days (weekends very high, weekdays generally better) and it's making me give up a bit on tracking...
I am a proponent of the weekly view but I think administering it at times (while not THAT difficult) just becomes a mental barrier in my mind
It also only goes so far (i.e. if I have a binge I'm not going to restrict down an impossible amount and just set myself up for more)
I made a couple dates with Brad this week for outdoor bike rides which I'm really looking forward to (and of course so is he because that's his favorite activity and he loves when I join him)
We are also going to a concert tonight, I have a retirement party Thursday night, and some house errands to get done. It's going to be a busy one!5 -
@ashleycarole86 my speed is going slightly up with my jogging! And I finally feel better and am going to body pump tonight!
@MoonlitMuse that sounds like a busy week! I'm glad your conference went well.
@DD265 I cannot sleep when it is hot! I am so thankful for central air...although it does stay in the 80s and 90s most of the summer! It's 82F right now, but there is a nice breeze!4 -

…I read some interesting stuff about boredom yesterday. I know many of you are way too busy to be bored, but it still happens that we lose interest in what is going on, what is around us, and what is inside us. Boredom is often a trigger to overeat, indulge in alcohol, or slouch on the couch scrolling or playing games that keep the mind minimally busy to avoid thinking. At the same time, we often feel guilty about being bored. We think that it's our own blasted fault that we are just sitting there, uninterested and unable to get going. It feels really uncomfortable. But the things I read brought up the notion that boredom is a positive thing…I'm going to try to see boredom as an opportunity for a while and see what happens. I'm going to take some time to think about what I'd like to be learning, doing, making, connecting with. The key word is curiosity, at least for me. The brain needs rest and idle sometimes too, so not all boredom needs to be swept away in a flurry of activity, but taking time to just let thoughts wander while in that state of openness and creativity is something that I tend to forget. Or fill with food…
Anyhow - turning things like boredom from a big negative to a big positive, in spite of how uncomfortable it can feel, is interesting to me at the moment.
Have a great day!
Great segue into my brief take on boredom.
OH and I went to the ocean to astate park in NJ (a +5 hour 1-way drive this weekend. On the way back, I was so crabby-bored that I tried to make suggestions about anything and everything, getting crabbier with each rejection. We stopped for gas and I went in to get a coffee but the Dunkin was already closed inside the gas station. I was too “bored” to even think of anything I might want, but decided on water and iced tea and something crunchy.
As I drove, I realized I was in the middle of a stuck place. I made a choice not to attend my high school reunion so OH and I could spend the time together without loud music, 3-class crowd, and open bar scene, which I “retired from” in 2011. I looked at some of the fb feed from those at the party whilst we drove home & was full of self recriminations and feeling left out..in spite of consciously choosing to not go. Kick myself when down or not. How annoying of me!
So-looking beyond my boredom and sitting with the discomfort helped me see the patterns that trip me into beating myself up, and usually overeating in the process!
More this week.
I will properly introduce myself as well then.
Welcome everyone!

steps and such for you @ashleycarole86 --
Friday - 10428 + 20 Pilates + 45 bike
Saturday - 10676 + 45 bike
this week -
Sunday - 17087 + 45 bike
Monday - 11004 + 15 Pilates + 45 bike
I have not been counting my horse rides - but we have had some lovely outings, a few moments of adolescent brat behaviour, and some good training on patterns that give his brain and body plenty to think about. The flies were brutal yesterday, though - big nasty things and deer flies swarming about. Good ol' summer

Today I completed my masters program! I will graduating 7 weeks early and just in time for summer break. I started this journey about 16 months ago with the goal of making a big move on the pay scale. My husband had a really rough work year during the 22/23 year and wasn't sure he was going to stay in the teaching profession. My goal was to be able to fully support the family if he took a different route. It was a lot of pressure but it's done and I am so relieved. My husband had a better year and is working through his all or nothing perfectionist thing. I totally hear all of you out there dealing with perfectionist stuff. It really is the thief of all joy and can diminish your accomplishments. I have tendencys towards this too. My husband will keep up with work and sometimes just knowing you can quit is enough to get through difficult times.
Looking forward to some care free days with only 3 days of work left. Most of my paper work is done but I literally have a 3 ft x 3 ft pile of my play dough and sensory toys on my desk that need serious organizing.
Tomorrow I'm going to a collaboration about introception. It's about how your body does...or maybe doesn't clue into how you feel. If you have an unreliable introception response you might over eat or miss a bunch of cues that your getting stressed so it feels like you just melt down out of nowhere. I'll share more details after the meeting.5 -

Congratulations @conleywoods - all your dedication and hard work has paid off. I hope you have some great relaxation plans for your summer break.
Tuesday = training day and it was an interesting session. We worked on mobilising the hip flexors and hamstrings, then decided to incorporate some explosive movement. Trainer has a 10kg medicine ball that we never normally use; I was throwing that (either from upright or in a row stance) at the ground for 10 reps, then 10 reps of a lift in between. Did deadlift, back squat, front squat, overhead press and snatch - the latter he said were "surprisingly excellent" to which I responded "what do you mean surprisingly?!" The cheek of it. .
I called in at the allotment on the way back, did a little weeding, put canes in for my tomatoes and opened the greenhouse door. I'll go back this evening to do more, as OH is working. I've gotten a ready meal out of the freezer (it's a chicken tikka masala with lots of veggies, and rice), and I'm off work for the rest of the week, so looking forward to a relaxed evening to myself. Sometimes, it's just what the doctor ordered.4 -

What to do if you had/have a red flag weigh-in this week? Get to work on next week's by doing some planning. Think about what might have caused the gain - sometimes it's really clear, sometimes just a fluke. Then pre-log or watch portions, or whatever your information tells you needs a little tweaking. Get one perfect day under your belt, especially if you're feeling discouraged - it is amazing what that one day can do for your energy and resolve.
I had a red flag weigh-in this morning so it is on my mind! I'm taking off tomorrow for a week. First to Montreal, overnight before an early flight on Thursday, then to Charlotte NC to pick up my mother, then to Ohio for my brother's memorial service. And of course the reverse to get home. I want to be very mindful of eating during this trip. Travelling is often one of my worst times for keeping what I call "stupid food" out of my mouth. Smart food is OK! And not too much. So I packed a pair of trousers to wear for the service that are quite snug. They look and feel great today, and they had better still look good on Saturday! That will be my reward for not snacking on all the things. I won't be able to pre-log easily because I'm not sure where I'll be eating a lot of the time, but I'll put some guardrails up. No bread is always helpful, no fried anything, etc. Still keeping as much of my plate covered with vegetables as possible. Hopefully it will go well and I'll enjoy the company and the sharing more if I am not stuffed.
Today is rainy, but I'm going to ride my dear Jasper and I'm slated for a strength workout, too. Tomorrow before leaving, a nice intense but stretchy Pilates session. Then luckily we will always be staying somewhere with a gym. No days to be skipped.
Keep well, everyone!5 -

Sorry for not being able to do this last week. I had so much in my mind….I couldn’t even open up the app. From my dad having surgery to having a deadline. I am happy to be back again. My name is Grace and I am a pharmacist. I am 31 years old and live with my sister 😊. I have managed to keep my weight stable over the past week. I will try and move it down this week. Just by reducing take aways and drinking water.5 -
@conleywoods Isn't that the best feeling ever after you've defended and the committee says 'congrats'!? It's such a huge sigh of relief and you deserve it after all the hard work! Congrats!!
@jugar Where in Ohio do you have to be?2
