Agreed that is really nice you are using your mom's china, Nanc. I have my grandmother's china which is very simple and elegant. I haven't used it in decades and was thinking I need to get it to some of my cousin's kids so it stays in the family.

Bisky, glad you are able to laugh about the latest with your sis. That would get tiring.

The potato diet was just a step further than a Mary's Mini, Bisky. https://www.drmcdougall.com/education/information/marys-mini-mcdougall-diet/

I've done the Mary's Mini many times over the years. I happened to be reading something that talked about the Spudfit guy who ate nothing but potatoes for a year. I have no desire or intention to eat nothing but potatoes long-term, but I was intrigued enough to try it for a week. Three of my days last week were all potatoes while a couple had some fruit and/or greens. It was surprising how full I was and how little I thought about food on the all-potato days. Nothing to plan or cook or do... just eating potatoes when hungry. I then read some of The Potato Hack and found that interesting too.

Can't be on here long...long story short, somehow I got a corneal abrasion. Was in so much pain during during the night to Monday morning. Luckily, my eye doc had a opening yesterday a.m.

She said it was a large abrasion, put a contact lens bandage on it, antibiotic drops and pain drops...seeing a specialist today.

100% better than yesterday at this time. Hoping for a good report so I can go back to work tomorrow.

Helping Hands volunteers in my complex set me up with a driver for yesterday and today.

    Will keep you posted.

This was beyond the scariest thing I ever experienced. TAKE CARE OF YOUR EYES!

Not sure how it happened. Later.

I had a corneal abrasion during a surgery. They did it while I was anesthetized. It was more painful than the surgery. 10 times more painful than cataract surgery.

Spinach smoothie with berries and yogurt..it was a bit blah. Realized I forgot 1/2 banana.
    Salad for lunch 🥗
Korean veggie stir fry for dinner.

    Swam 500 meters with Brooks.

Some Air Force family has a problem. They have 5 kids and immediately need to give away a beautiful cocker spaniel they have had for 7 years. She is bringing him over tomorrow night. Neutered, microchipped, shots utd, leash trained. Good with kids. Will find out full story tomorrow. We might foster him or keep him. uhartc6z59t1.jpeg

Oh no, Nanc! I hope you are doing better today.

That is a very sweet looking dog, Bisky. So sad for him, but if he gets to come live with you then things are already looking up for him.

I've been watching some Chelsea Mae youtubes in the mornings while I treadmill. Thinking that was a recommendation from Nanc a while back. I don't watch a lot of videos because most are so annoying and life is too short, but I actually like Chelsea's. Anyway, I was intrigued by the microwave steamer she was using so I got one. Only $10 on amazon. Made some broccoli in it last night and some purple kale this morning. I think this little gadget is going to be a game changer. So quick and easy to make fresh steamed veggies.

Yep, that was me, Chels is great. I have that steamer. FABULOUS!

She has great podcasts too. Do look into those.

Back to work today. Healing nicely. Liked my optometrist better than that specialist. She is the one that got me on the road to health. What a gem I found in her. She was in the Lencrafters office for a long time. Now she and her partner have their own office...10 minutes from home. So thorough.

Did not make more beans ... LOVE home made refried beans. Only using canned for emergencies.

But today, have to go really easy. Did not venture out to store yesterday. So much dust and junk in the air.

coffee with NO MORE NUTPODS...steaming unsweetened soy milk (water and organic soy beans)
Cascadian farms organic "cheerios" and soy milk with frozen blueberries
    pasta dish with veg/tofu/marinara
    watermelon
    ninja

    GTG. Have a good one.

Sorry, time to get off computer.

Bisky, how did the pupper meet and greet go?

Nanc, happy to hear your eye is doing better. Yikes that was scary! Love your energy with all the cooking and prep work.

Went back to the grab and go tonight but was more selective about getting completely oil free dishes. Used the microwave steamer again this morning for some breakfast kale. Nom nom!

Owner wanted to meet at commissary so we just picked him up. He is extremely thin….like under a heavy coat his spine and hip bones are sticking out 😳🙀. She said he only eats once a day and probably would not eat for a couple of days. He and Charlie Bear got along fine. Cleo, aka HBIC….head *kitten* in charge growled ferociously at him but didn’t bite. He is very timid and chill. I gave him a tablespoon of Farmer’s Dog food and he loved that. First thing in am he is going to my groomers for an emergency groom and while there I will make him a vet appt. I need guidance on how to feed him. We walked down to our dog park and it was empty so we let all 3 run around together but it is full of burrs. So Brooks brushed him out for me and then I combed all the mats out. They said because their children were very allergic to him they left him outside. 🙀he has way too much coat and it is so hot and humid. Poor little guy. I think he is thrilled to be inside in the a.c. v5x4bgomrg3m.jpeg

Awww... Bisky, I am so glad you have him safe in your home and his fortunes are improving rapidly!

I got up way too early this morning. Hit the treadmill, cut up a cantaloupe, going to get to the office early.

Thank you. Chief is really cute. He ate a big bowl of dog food. Taking to my groomer this am.I Cleaned out his ears. 🤢 he has those long cocker spaniel ears that can get infected easily.

Smoothie: lemon, ginger, spinach p, 1/2 banana and small orange.

Salad for lunch and dinner is up in air… maybe veggie tacos

Good morning all. It's been a few days since I last logged on. Great recipe tips - thanks all!

Magic, I love mashed potatoes - I will try it with spinach! And can't wait to try the refried beans recipe. Yum.

Bisky, I like your cheater meal ideas.

Mihani, your Big 'Ol Salad of May 19th sounds delicious. The combination of ingredients is mouth watering. I just saw a video for a simple chickpea salad - an old French recipe. If I find it again, I'll share it.

Husband's prostectomy was yesterday. It went well and doctor was pleased to see that lymph nodes were not enlarged. Pathology report to come. Bisky, your husband has been on quite the journey! Staying on top of things is critical.

I think it's a smoothie for breakfast- fruit, unsweetened almond milk, and some dried alfalfa. I'll pick up a salad at the hospital.

    Have a great day!

Bisky... my parents had a cocker spaniel and we would jokingly call him caca ears because those ears could get stinky! :# Do you think you'll be keeping him or just helping to find a permanent home?

Coffee, glad to hear that everything went well. Best wishes to your husband. When will he be getting home? Awesome thinking about smoothies and salads when you are going through a stressful time.

Nanc, yay for getting the contact lens bandage out. Never heard of such a thing. How was your watermelon? I have bought 3 so far in May. One was terrible threw it out, one was absolutely wonderful, and the third was just kind of meh. Mediocre watermelon makes me sad.

Still rocking the sweet potato and broccoli or kale for breakfasts this week plus some cantaloupe this morning. Lunch today was a quinoa kale salad and snacked on slices of baked russet. Dinner was no tuna salad on wasa bread with a side of steamed kale. Loving that microwave steamer.

Mihani - now I have to get the microwave steamer! The groomer really did a good cleaning of Chief’s ears. He did have caca ears. I have a really good ear wash but the groomer had to pull a lot of the hairs out so meds could get in. Plus he took a lot of weight off those ears. He looks like a puppy. Brooks is not sold on him. 😢

Magic - how does the eye feel after bandage taken off. Eye injuries make me cringe.

Coffee - best wishes for your husband and a speedy recovery. Even the military urology group’s nutritionist advocated a more plant based diet for cancer.

Yoga stretch class and then swam 650 m.

Chief had a good spa day but it is so sad to see how really skinny he is. Again, he ate a big dinner. On way home from groomer he tried to eat my orange. 😳 If he continues to eat and gain weight it means he truly was neglected. 😢ecplwsjweomy.jpeg

Those people moving (I think that was the reason they had to give Sarge up, can't remember)...whatever the reason, glad it happened and he is in the hands of a caring, loving home. Poor little guy.

Bisky, I ordered Farmer's Dog...Lulu is hit and miss with it. I still have some in the freezer. One day she loves it (mix it with her Science Diet) and then, NOPE...not interested.

The eye is doing good...I think. So scared that it could happened again. Just took a damp towel to my eye, and dabbed it. Hadn't washed it since it happened and the flushing out with water was not working (Sun-Mon).

He wants to see me back in a month.

Up in the middle of the night...this has been going on for quite some time. I do get up, prep my lunch and do a few chores and then back in bed. Trying my best to keep kitchen table and dining room table clear...trying to stay on top of laundry...got on top of so many things while on my vacay.

My favorite meal right now is a veg/tofu/pasta/marinara dish. The veg part is carrots, celery, onions, bell peppers-sweet, mushrooms. Few I do alone to get as much flavor, like the mushrooms and onions.

The sauce is: (I get it at Walmart) No Sugar Added Lucini Italia Organic Tuscan Tomato YUM

The spaghetti is from Costco, organic...the eight pack. I cook up the whole thing, keep in a tupperware and portion out each meal. Somehow I do not overeat.

Put it all together (cause I make a huge batch of the sauce)...heat up and drive my coworkers MAD. It smells soooooooooooo good. It really is delish. Very little oil...just what's in the sauce and really minimal.

Watermelons: Bought two, well, two- 2=packs from Costco. Minis. Two super. Two better than average. Fingers crossed for a great Watermelon Season.

Monday my organizer is coming one last time until the holidays...we are doing my guest/bedroom. I don't want this to go and and on. So, she has the day off...so do I. Let's do it.

I have had her for five years. I found her on Thumbtack. Her prices have since gone up, but she did not raise me. She locked me in at her starting price...$35 an hour. So reasonable, for what she has done for me. I just don't share that info with anyone since new customers are paying $50, But I was there when she just got started and helped grow her business. This is her thank you to me. <3

    today looks like yesterday...

coffee with soy milk (not missing my nutpods at all)...the soy froths up beautifully.
    avocado toast
    pasta dish
    watermelon
    salad
    refried bean taquitos
    ninja

When I do the broc in the steamer...4.5 minutes...comes out bright green and perfect every time.

Have a great day everyone. Healing prayers to those in need.
    Make it delicious. 0ii66juakq7e.png

Awww….love the pic of Lulu. She is such a cutie. I would be happy to pay an hourly rate. Not someone who wants to sell me a package.

Mihani - I agree something was not right. He is way too interested in food and eating great. If he picks up a couple of lbs before Vet appointment then they were starving him. 🙀😭😭😭😭

Amazing how God works. I was VERY upset when I did not get Buster (the oversized yorkie) when we came back from Japan….but my friend (who passed away of cancer) husband said Buster was the only reason he had to get up in the morning after his wife passed….well what can you say to that? Anyways, this little guy reminds me a lot of Buster. He is busy, likes to play with toys, needs to be in same room as me, barks too much. My other two dogs are very sweet but extremely laid back. I need to tell Brooks tonight I want to keep him. Fingers crossed. To be honest, Chief is a bit more laid back than Buster. He was not allowed on furniture, walked regularly or kept inside. He is eating great. Went to a yuppie pet store. I might switch to something else than Farmer’s DOG. Will see after Vet appointment.

I am exhausted from yesterday. Walking dogs, yoga and swimming, veggie shake and salads for lunch and dinner. Was down 1 lb this am. A new low!!! Today…walked dogs 2 miles, lunch with a friend (salad )laundry, gardening and I am done.

Nanc, sorry the sleeping thing is off again. I woke up around 1:30 this morning myself and couldn't get back to sleep. I finally got up for real around 2:30 and have had a cup of coffee, ate some cantaloupe, cooked up some sweet potatoes and steamed a bunch of kale, and cleaned a head of red leaf. Takes 1.5 minutes to steam kale in the microwave steamer. Broccoli 2.5 minutes. I like my veggies just slightly cooked and still a bit crisp.

Yay for getting smileys back and especially to hear your eye is doing better. Lulu looks ready for adventure.

Bisky, I actually noticed in a couple of the pictures the way Chief was looking at you and thought yeah he already thinks she's his person. Sounds like it really is that way with him wanting to be close all the time. Is Cleo accepting him now?

Going to pack up some oats and a salad and head to the office. May as well since I'm up, and I can nap when I get home. I would really really like to get enough done today that I can work at home the rest of the weekend and not have to go back in there. Kind of sad the holiday weekend is supposed to be mostly rain and thunderstorms.

My goodness, u r an early bird, Miss Mihani! I managed to get about 6 hours...slept until 4. Thank goodness. Sheer exhaustion. Eye is kinda scary still. Does not feel all healed...but definitely on the way.

LOVE that you are enjoying the steamer so much. How did you ever get a 10 price tag. I just looked and I think it was 24 something. I have one and one in reserve...they were supposed to send to my friend as a gift...and somehow I ended up with it (my error). So I just kept it and sent her, her very own.
Good luck with work...you have to be one of the hardest workers I know. nuvjj39qklwe.png

Finally, something good (Bisky Fam) has come to that sweet dog's life. How people can treat animals the way those people did is beyond my comprehension.

Heading to my sister's this morning for a quick visit and to drop off the suitcases she lent me that I did not use.

Cleaning up the kitchen...kept it pretty tidy all week. Floor needs steaming. Also, sheets and another load of laundry.

Nanc, I think I got a smaller steamer. It's fine for me though. Makes a good sized portion of broccoli or kale for one person.

Sounds like you've had a busy day! I am definitely taking a nap now that I'm home from the office.

Bisky, we're on pins and needles to hear whether you'll be keeping Chief (and if you will be changing his name) :)

Major score at Fresh Thyme. They had jicama sticks in the prepared produce section. I have only had jicama a few times and it's SO good. I ate them like french fries with my salad.

Mornin' all, I seem to be channeling Nanc in my sleep habits. I went to bed around 9:30 last night and at 2 am I was wide awake although I tried to get back to sleep. Finally got up around 3:30 to get on with the day. I can nap later but I'll get in a few hours of work first.

I quit coffee for 5 days and decided to have a cup this morning. Probably not worth it to go through another caffeine withdrawal.

    Plan for today:
B - sweet potato, steamed kale, an orange, a few walnut halves
L - oats with berries, chia/flax, cinnamon, chopped kale
D - baked potato, big ol' salad with red leaf, broccoli, pickled onion, tomato, beets

Almost reached my goal of 5,000 steps every day last week. I am going to make sure I reach it this week. If I find myself short at the end of the day I've been doing some walk away the pounds type moving around before I get into bed.

Okay so marriage is a bit of give and take. Brooks agreed we could keep Chief but he gets to rename him. 😜. So his new name is, and this will tell you a lot about Brooks….
.his name is Obi-Wan-Kenobi!!! Obi for short. 😂😂😂😂I knew he was going to pick something from Star Trek or Star Wars…just glad it is not Darth Vader. Obi is cute and fits him.

Bisky, so happy to hear that Obi is going to have a loving home from here on out!!! When is his vet appointment?

Waiting for laundry to get dry and I'm heading up to my desk. I got up at 3:30 so not as bad as yesterday but still hoping my sleep routine settles soon.

    Plan for today:
B - half a sweet potato, blueberries, half an orange, steamed kale with a sprinkle of balsamic and hemp hearts (done)
L - big ol' salad of red leaf, beet, carrot, pickled onion, tomato
D - baked potato, steamed broccoli and mushroom

I whisked together some vinegar, soy sauce, garlic and a bit of maple syrup yesterday for salad dressing which was easy and tasty. Enough left for today.

Organizer is coming over today to help me get this office/guest room in shape. We are really going to be ruthless...well, I am! The less the better!

Since getting a dining room table, I have kept the dining/living room nice and tidy. It just needs steam mopping.

Same with the kitchen...doing more clean as I go so I do not get overwhelmed.

    I do have a small kitchette set...pub type, round table four chairs...very small...trying to keep both table cleared of S T U F F !

Bit of a cheat day today...I always make my organizer (Kris) lunch...so we can relax and visit. Since it is Memorial Day...I am making Smart Dogs with the fixings...and kettle chips and watermelon.

Never had them and hoping they are passable. Kris is NOT A PICKY EATER. I love that about her. She tries all vegan stuff.

I looked at the Field Roast Stadium Dogs...heard they were really good. Was not impressed with the ingredients. Thought the Smart Dogs looked a bit better. Neither great for sure. Will freeze those we don't use...save for 4th of July.

    So, today...
    coffee with soy
(was at Sprouts yesterday, NUTPODS on sale.
OH MY! qduyni01puzi.png I passed. yay me)

I think I am a little anemic again because I am sleeping 10-12 hours again. San Antonio is horribly hot. We walked the dogs yesterday down by the Pearl/Riverwalk for 2 miles…but a really slow 2 miles. Today a short walk and then a 5 mile bike ride. The humidity was 90%. It is almost 8:00 pm and I am going to bed.

Obi is doing really well. He clearly lets us know when he needs to use the restroom. I love him and he fills a void that I had when I gave Buster to my friends. His vet appt is June 6. When I took him to the vet last week before his grooming appt he weighed 18 lbs so we will see if he is headed in the right direction.

OMG. Garbanzo beans washed, seasoned and 15 min in air fryer. My new favorite. TJ’s run yesterday so I can have my beet smoothie tomorrow am ! Ordered my steamer. Thank you!

    Mihani Posts: 4,102 Member
Bisky, do you precook the garbanzos? I am so happy for Obi!!! Sounds like he is settling right in with the family. Hope you got some rest.

Nanc, congrats on finishing up your organization project. Must feel great to have it all finished.

    Plan for today...
B - half a sweet potato, blueberries, steamed kale with apple and mushroom
L - collards with onion and chickpeas (whipped up yesterday for lunch today)
D - big ol' salad not sure yet what all will be in it

Won't be able to eat all this breakfast so I'll take half to the office for a snack. It was just a little experiment with the steamer and worked out quite well. Had cooked sweet potato already, steamed a basket of kale and threw in the bowl and sprinkled with balsamic and no-salt seasoning, then steamed chopped apple and a mushroom, threw that in the bowl, then a cup of fresh blueberries, sprinkled the fruit and shroom with a bit of cinnamon.
