@GRANDMAJACKIE - Glad things are going well in the new house! And thanks for sharing the pics of your handsome boys, Pete & Parker! (Note: I hope you don't mind I edited your post to make the pictures visible without having to click on the two links.)
@CLEPANT - I feel for you with the oppressive heat you are experiencing in your area. It's been hot & muggy here (at least for what we're used to), but nothing like what you're going through. Hang in there and try to stay cool! Maybe join Brinkley in the kiddie wading pool in the SHADE.
@ANACONDA - WOW!!! Your surgery incision looks FANTASTIC!!!!! Your surgeon did an amazing job on it and it is healing beautifully! In a while, that scar is just plain going to vanish *POOF!* and you'll barely see it unless you're looking for it. Wonderful! I've seen some knee surgery scars where it looked like the surgeon had their eyes closed and/or didn't care if it was straight or not.
I think I can finally say I'm going to live....a little tongue in cheek, but dannnng....a couple of days last week, I didn't want to very much. I was so sick and miserable. Slept mostly day & night...when I wasn't trying to go to the bathroom (unsuccessfully) every 20 minutes day & night. It took from the start on Monday July 1st to sometime overnight Sat/Sunday for the antibiotics to get things anywhere close to functioning properly again. I was physically & emotionally drained all day Sunday and hoping it was done and gone for good. Still not 100% yet now, but I'm close. I'm still working on getting my pre-infection energy levels back and my body is still having a tiny bit of trouble regulating my temp. It hardly takes any exertion to get clammy & sweaty. But that just might be a little bit because it's July and that's the weather right now. But glad to be back up & "running", figuratively speaking.

@Dave: wow! You just keep having some rough weeks! I am glad you turned the corner. Did they ever say what it was that you had? I hear the new Covid strain is whooping some butts this time around.
I just have too much work that needs to be done to rest. The pup and I walk early for 2 -3 miles and then I work in my garden, MG garden, church garden or my dad’s. I just cannot get caught up. And we so need a good soaking , not flooding rain. Feel better.Hope your FIL and wife are doing better.
@Dean: I know you have your hands full right now, but you are in my thoughts as well. Praying for. A new vet that wants to stay for a good while.

Hey guys sorry for going MIA. On June 10th a tornado brought trees down on my house. It could have been worse but thankfully things weren't. the important thing is that everyone is safe. Lots of damage in the entire neighborhood. So to say the least clean up and dealing with insurance life got crazy still waiting to see if the roof will be taken care of properly and not just a patch. We are water tight but I want my house fixed so I can get to fixing the damage inside. My electric bill is going to be a doozie for the simple fact the water mitigation people removed lots of insulation. At least we replaced that last week and the house has cooled off immensely.
All that said I had 96 miles last month.
Can you put me in for 100 this month. Please and Thank you. let me know if I am coming in too late.0 -

@KAR328 - I'm usually really, really good at following directions! There was just too much going on and I completely spaced it out this time. It did really turn out to be a good thing though, because had I just left that cellulitis untreated thinking it wasn't anything serious. I'm sure you know how that might've turned out. Scary! Also, that Dave Barry article sounds familiar, but I will check it out again because I'm always down for a well-written piece of comedy.
@TAHM42 - How terrifying that must have been! So glad you're all safe!!!

HAPPY FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY!!! These full 5-day weeks after a 3-day work week last week due to the long holiday weekend are brutal. But we made it! **If you're already retired....my former retired police officer neighbor said EVERY time he was outside when I was leaving for work in the morning..."Every day is Saturday when you're retired!"**
I sure miss him. He passed away shortly after I moved back in 2013. He was such a great man. Kind, caring, WATCHFUL of the neighborhood of course, very witty/funny (which is a quality I value highly), always had a great story to tell even if I had heard it many times before. In fact, since we didn't have an attached garage, if I was in a hurry for work in the morning, I had to briskly walk the gauntlet between our houses to get to my car because if he spotted me, that was an automatic 20-minute conversation...MINIMUM. That was something my family would often affectionately chuckle about. I'd give anything for one of those conversations now though. I would make the time whether I had it or not.
He often smoked a pipe with tobacco that I swear smelled of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies straight out of the oven. He was a wonderful pseudo-Grandpa to my three kids, but mostly my two boys from the time they were in diapers up until when they were teenagers. Sorry, getting all mushy here. That came out of nowhere... Anyway, rest well, Rodger. My family thinks of you often. You were one of the great ones.

@Dave: Love going down memory lane. Moral of the story: Appreciate those around us, take time to be present, because we just don’t know how long they will be with us.
I think I am getting the hang of the heat. Drink lots of water, don’t go back into air conditioning because it’s harder to go back out, find a shady spot for awhile to get out of the sun and keep moving.

@CLEPANT - You are SO right on. Time is fleeting and we just don't ever know. And yes, as good as it feels to go inside for a short break, it is soooo much harder to go back out.

Hi there. Hope you're having a great weekend. I'm at 28/50.
@clepant -The house where we spend summers doesn't have air conditioning. We leave all the windows and doors open to catch whatever natural breeze there is, and the house, at least the downstairs, stays reasonably cool. The house was built in 1894 and they knew how to position it to catch the breeze and how to trap the heat upstairs in the huge attic. I find that when I do go in AC it is too cold and it messes with my ability to handle the heat when I go back out.
Now the house in Florida is another matter. I think I would die if we didn't have AC there. The difference is the ocean temperature is 20-30 cooler here so we usually have a cool ocean breeze.0 -

@Janet:You are right, they knew how to design homes back then. I am selling our Michigan property and sadly, it was alway nice, even on hot days because we were a stones throw from Canada and off the Great Lakes. Storms could be wicked , but night wer often sweatshirt weather and days were hot and sunny, not dew points at 70 plus.
My dad’s house never had air conditioning aside from fans. We finally talked my dad into a window ac unit later in life. When he went from oil heating to gas in 2000, he had an air coil put on his furnace so it was ready to put on. When he died and we did repairs to his house, we put had whole house AC unit installed.,The AC people said they my brother’s friend (who did ac for a living, put the wrong one on for his furnace and he installed it backwards. So much for friends doing work in your home,
My house is surrounded by trees. My neighbors always say I must like them . Two huge oaks in front with some maples in the sidel. We lost all our big ones on the back due to storms and I have a row of juniper ps as wind breaks although they are suffering from the lack of water now, Because of it, our house is cooler. We never usually turned on any AC tuntil August and we used window and ceiling fans.
My hubby put a whole house down in our crawl space two years ago, It drew out the hot air. (We live in a Cape Cod) I know the attic kept my dad’s house cool and a huge maple that started foundation damage.
When my dad moved in, he was always cold. Poor circulation and kidney issues, he would sit outside on our deck and litterally back in the sun. It felt so good to him. Whenit was hot we used our window fans. Neighbors were all in AC and thought we were nuts. I turned it on sparingly for my aging dogs. Coming inside was a reprieve back then, So now I head out all morning and do veinings. The break is the noon to 3paeiund three. We just need rein so badly, This summer is oppressive her. It really has been the worst since 1988. I am glad I gave up my design garden this year. The gal who took over has lost so many plants and it is becaus she has too much open space and she used perennials instead of annuals
On a sadder note, I am just a few miles south of where t Trump’s assignation attempt took place. My sister lives a few miles away on her 83 acre horse farm. It is such a nice community and now it will have this nasty earmark on it. We really live in an area where people make conversations with total strangers and where people that don’t know you will stop and help.
Sorry for the long post.
