This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Today's Topic: Influencing Others
We often speak of food pushers and naysayers and such...but, do we influence others?
Do you have an example where your lifestyle choices/needs have affected the lifestyle choices of someone else?

I’m struggling with whether there’s a way to answer this in the affirmative without sounding like an arrogant sumbeach.
I guess I try not to have my choices impact other people. I’m willing to try to be an example, but it’s gonna be a silent one. The exception? I speak up on Connect and in my WW meeting, and I’ve had people tell me that what I’ve said has helps. (If anything, that reflects well on this group, since most of what I know or believe about weight management was learned from the GoaD message board.) I frequently find myself walking the tightrope between trying to be the sage, and trying NOT to be Arnold Horshack.2 -
I feel that my knowledge and experience is less than those who post here. I occasionally ask questions on Connect and sometimes get snarky answers from know-it-alls. On Facebook I sometimes get rabid about crazy diets and nonsensical nutrition claims. I don’t consider myself an influencer, although my wife eats more salads now that I do2

Our kids, now in their 30s, both exercise regularly. I’ve never really discussed exercise with them in terms of sitting them down and suggesting they do it. They just know exercise is something DW & I do.1

When I lost weight and got to goal years ago, a family member was very interested in what I was doing. Joining WW back then coincided with me learning about some food allergies/sensitivities. I think she thought eliminating gluten and dairy had caused my weight loss, so she became interested in that as well. She's never been as heavy as me, but when I lose weight, she asks lots of questions. I suppose that counts as influence.1

If you’re effectively managing your weight and health, you’ve got all the knowledge and experience you need. 👍🏻1
