Well, steady as she goes. Just as soon as I logged off last week, I promtly forgot my goal of burning 17K kcals each day. But although I forgot about that until yesterday, I still managed to have a 7-day average a bit above that. Steps were okay, too, despite the fact that we've had rain, rain, rain from the passage of Hurricane Helene. I think we may finally see some sun at the end of this week.
As you know, I grew up in Western NC, and still have lots of family there. My sister lives just far enough east to have missed the very worse, and my brother, two surviving aunts, and host of cousins all seem to have come through relatively okay. As okay as one can be with trees down all around, roads closed, and no power or internet for days. In the middle of this, my sister had to go to the hospital because her blood oxygen level got very low. She was there Thursday through Sunday. I talked to her on Monday, and it was back in a normal range, but she's being treated for a lung infection/pneumonia.
But in the good news category, guess what! I left class yesterday and stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few items. And while picking out a pineapple, my cell rang, and it was Maryland Oncology letting me know that they had a cancellation and so my surgery can be moved up to October 10. Because of the close timeframe, I have to go to the hospital rather than my PCP's office for the pre-surgery blood tests and EKG, but I have that scheduled for next Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed that the outcome is good. I am so looking forward to having this behind me.
I can't remember if I mentioned this, but the November date was just not good in so many ways. Hubby has been called for federal jury duty and the potential dates are in late October and early to mid November. And he is supposed to travel to Texas sometime later this month or in early November for business. So the November 12 date just sucked. This earlier date means I'll miss recertification for my class, which is October 11, but I'm pretty sure that won't create any big problems.
Lois, hope you did something special for your anniversary. I knew that your anniversary and Sheesh's birthday are the same day, but I somehow blanked it out. I'm glad you took the day off and that you managed to stay off the computer. I remember that logging on for a quick check, which often ended up with my working for several hours! Also, I'm crossing my fingers and toes that the third time is indeed the charm for your nail. And I wouldn't worry too much about a swollen lymph node. That is common and can be caused by a number of things (including a minor injury), and it usually clears up in a week or two.
Sheesh, hope you enjoyed your birthday and that it has been a good week for you. I see signs of fall in your photos, and it's so pretty out there when the leaves turn. I hope to get out west in the fall again some autumn to come, but obviously, not this year! Hubby travels to upstate PA several times during the fall to visit his cousins and go hunting, and he always says to me, "You should plan more trips just for yourself." I used to do that more often. There were five of us who used to do fall trips each year, but one of us retired and moved pretty far away, and two have died. The two who died were the youngest of us (about 15 years younger than me). One died of ALS and one from lung cancer that metasized to the brain. My friend Nancy and I were the oldest in that group, and I recently said to her, "who would have thought that it would end up with just you and me." You just never know. So next fall . . .
Kelly, you've been in my thoughts a lot this past few weeks. I hope that things are evening out and that the issues with your kids and your MIL are on the uphill now. Miss hearing from you.
Well, here are my 7-day averages:
Steps = 10,886
Kcals burned = 1,715
And now I need to move on down my to-do list, which keeps getting longer. I forgot to mention that I did not do well with my food logging last week. Just didn't get up to the computer, and I haven't tried the MFP app on my phone. So my goal this week is to log consistently and accurately. I need a good week since I probably won't do so good the week after my surgery takes place. They say no exercise for 2 weeks post-op.

Hi all! I have been lingering and reading, just haven't had enough time to post. Sorry about that.
Things are slowly evening out. MIL is back at home and her Sister is still staying with her for the time being. Our boy is still struggling, but we're taking it day by day. He only need 4 more credits to graduate and was set to be done after the 1st semester, however with everything he has going on, he's failing 2 classes in school. I have said from when he was a very young age that I thought he has ADHD, but of course being the step mom, it was ignored. It's finally coming to light again and his Mom is going to make him an appointment to get assessed. He's a good kid, but struggles with tests especially. Just doesn't have the focus. Day by day. Our daughter's consultation with the surgeon appointment is on Monday, October 7th, so hopefully her surgery is booked soon after that and she doesn't have a long wait. The sooner the surgery, the sooner the recovery. She's doing well otherwise. She's a very smart & kind kid. She's turning 15 in December, so I'm sure the moodiness will amp up more soon
On the me front, I can't remember if I mentioned this, but I think I have figured out what was causing my massive eye swelling and asthma.. Advil. I haven't taken it since my shoulder was sore, and poof... no more symptoms. I do still have itchy eyelids at the end of the day, but not everyday and the swelling isn't there. I still have to wait for the patch testing in January to be sure I guess.
Man.. I did a workout video on Monday for the first time in a very long time... and it felt amazing, but 2 days later I'm still paying for it in my legs. Just have to stretch it out and keep moving. Hubby is struggling right now with his foot issues again and is on crutches. We think it's arthritis or gout. So painful for him and very frustrating. He's taking meds, icing, elevating, resting, drinking water... so hopefully it passes soon for him.
Sheesh - a very happy belated birthday! I always miss it because I rely on Facebook to remind me of peoples birthdays lol I hope you enjoyed your day.
Sarah - that's great that your surgery got moved up! Thinking good thoughts for you on October 10.
Lois - I hope you both enjoyed your anniversary!! Also, good thoughts for you with all the health stuff you have going on.
Sorry for the quick check in, but I'm in the office today. Thinking of you all!0 -

Yikes. I knew it though because I ate like crazy over the weekend. We just returned from a trip to Cali to see our son and his cute family. I don't remember if I mentioned it, but he got tickets to the 49ers game for our birthday gift this year. We flew down on Sept 26 and got back Monday night. Wow, it turned out to be an epic weekend because he got tickets to the Giants vs. Cardinals game also. It was such an exciting game, and they won. Then we went to Fishermans Wharf and had an unbelievably good crab dinner there. The whole restaurant sang happy birthday, lol. I got to see our grandsons' basketball practice and Tai Kwon Do lessons and our granddaughter's swim lesson. Sunday was the NFL game, and it was exciting too. I have a crush on Fred Warner, and he intercepted a pass and ran it in for a TD running directly toward me (our seats were in the end zone section). It was so great. Hubby and I have never been to an NFL game before, so we had a great time.
Sarah - I'm so happy for you that the surgery is Oct 10th! I'll be sending good thoughts your way that day. 2 weeks with no exercise is a long time. Are you not even allowed to walk slowly? Wow. The autumn is getting really pretty here now. The tree in my back yard is really red!
Lois - Happy Belated Anniversary Rhea confides in you . . so cute! My granddaughters are the same with me. . can talk to grandma in ways you can't talk to mom. Glad you're getting your toe taken care of, hopefully for the last time. I hope the heat lets up soon.
Kelly - I'm glad to hear things are better, and that your daughter will be getting in soon for her knee. Hang in there with your son. Boys are harder, in my opinion. But, with all the support he has, he'll be just fine. Keep up with the workout videos for yourself.
Have to sign off for now. I was invited to a girlfriend's get together tomorrow night, and I was assigned dessert . . so I'm baking tonight because I have my trainer tomorrow. I'll check back tomorrow or Friday.

Happy Monday morning ladies. Super busy weekend. Friday took 12 yo granddaughter and her mom to the movies - we watched Hocus Pocus to get us ready for Halloween. Yes, we've all seen it so many times, but it was still fun. My grandson had his homecoming game Friday night, so after dinner we headed to his game. They kicked butt again. Sadly, my grandson didn't play in the game, but it was an exciting game. So far they are undefeated. He did tell me he's also playing JV, so I need to look at the schedule and see when I can catch one of their games. Saturday morning was Rhea's 6th birthday and her party. So the 12 yo grand, her mom and I headed over for the 9am party. Pizza at 10? It was a deep dish - so that's a big no for me (that upsets my tummy). We opened presents at Rhea's home. It was so funny how she looks up to the 12 yo. Rhea took EVERY card and present for her to see/inspect and cheer. Her parents got her he 4 1/2 foot barbie dream house from Sam's club. So after everyone else left, Dad and Grandpa began to assemble. It took them almost 3 hours. (We did order salads in between the assembly). Rhea LOVED it. We didn't stick around for the furnishings, but they sent pictures. It was a fabulous weekend, but I was truly wiped out Saturday evening and into Sunday. So fatigued. I climbed into bed at 745 and I don't think I saw 8pm...lol. I woke up about 6 and felt rested, but the day progressed and I just faded.
So I don't want to go the direction of the medication for weight reduction, but it doesn't seem like my body is going to release anything until I take some drastic steps. So I'm now doing more research. My metabolism is so wonky now. I am watching portion sizes etc, but I'm still so fatigued overall that I can't find the energy to exercise. It doesn't help that we're still almost 110 all weekend and 80 with full sun when I wake up. That sun is HOT. I wish we had trees over the sidewalks to provide some shade, but we're a cactus community, so it's HOT. I want to go back two years and avoid meeting my friend for this other stuff. I know my body and knew from the get go that I'd have problems. UGH. SO before I jump into the next venture, I need more research.
Sarah - you're appointment time is just around the corner. So much closer for your answers. You'll stay in my prayers.
Kelly - hoping your daughter's appointment goes well today and you get on the schedule this week. And deep breath for your boy. Teens can be a struggle but you guys are a great team together and he knows he has your support. He'll come out ok in the end. Just some learning curves.
Sheesh - what a great birthday weekend!!! So much fun. I love football games. Hubby not so much, but I really get into them...and to be in the stands - that's amazing!!! It sounds like you had some amazing seats. And yes, I love that Rhea tells me everything. She just cracks me up. Grands are the best.
The chef just wrapped up. Salmon with sweet potatoes & zucchini, steak with sweet potatoes and zucchini for me. Hubby elected curry chicken salad (we'll actually both eat that - there's a TON) and his mini meatloaf with sweet potatoes and broccoli. With the chicken salad, I will be able to freeze several meals to eat next week. But tonight and tomorrow will be the salmon for me.
Oh and our upstairs AC is scheduled to be replaced this Thursday morning. So hopefully I can move back up to my room this weekend. I need to get my office stuff out of the living room/dining room area so we can begin to prepare for the holidays.0 -
Happy Monday back at your Lois, and thanks for the prayers. I'll take all I can get. I'm actually beginning to feel a little low-level anxiety. I guess that's normal. Tomorrow morning I go to class and then down to the hospital for blood tests and an EKG.
I feel your pain with weather making it hard to walk. I can't walk in the DC area's heat and humidity which typically hits in June or July and continues through September. But we're getting some nicer days here now, and I know your lovely late fall and winter weather it just around the corner. And yah for you for deciding to forego the drugs. I just have an odd feeling about the long-term effects, although I know that some people have such high blood pressure and high blood sugar levels that it makes sense for them to go that route.
And I can't believe that sweet Rhea is now 6 years old. Seems like only a year or so ago that you were counting downs the days until her birth. And I can just see her showing her gifts to her (oh my, 12-year-old) cousin!
Kelly, hope your daughter's consultation with the surgeon went well today and that she is able to get the surgery scheduled quickly. Honestly, Americans have been told that in countries with socialized medicine people have to wait forever for appointments. But here I am waiting 7 months since I first found this lump.
Well, got to run. We are watching over things for our neighbors (including their dog) while they are in Holland for a week, and I need to go over to their house and get lights on and curtains closed, etc.0
