    Happy Hump day!

    Mihani - there are several styles of Hokas. I like the Clifton for walking. There is also one called Bondi that is very cushioned but rubs my left foot with a bunion. When we were in Finland..I did not pack my HokaS…big mistake but they are extremely popular there and I bought a pair specifically for walking called Hoka - transport. They were fantastic right out of the box…we did an 8 mile walk around the city seeing museums and castle. No blisters or pain. I wish I could get in a 3 mph walk. That is 1 mile in 20 minutes. With the dogs I am lucky to be around 24-26 min/miles.

    Magic - I agree about food prep. Last time at grocery store I bought some frozen veggie rice or quino bowls for emergencies. We have a road trip tomorrow to NM. I bought hummus & carrots, apples, pistachio nuts and packing my blender and protein powder. I have a small personal use blender. Not powerful enough for blending veggies or fruits but good enough for the Ka’Chava powder. I use the vitamix for green or fruit smoothies.

    Alexa- I like just balsalmic glaze or my “Mediterranean” type salads with romaine lettuce, peppers, onions, olives, sun flower seeds and grape tomatoes. The glaze is thicker than balsamic vinaigrette. Your almond butter and coconut dressing sounds delicious. Carla has a lot of good recipes using cashews.

    I was down another lb. this am. I am so close to grand total of 80 lbs. Closer I get to goal weight the slower the weight loss. My goal is 100 lbs. Brooks thinks I only need to lose another 10 lbs but I like nice round numbers. I think most of the stress from the move is over and I am sleeping, eating and exercising better. Maybe it is the pickleball! Played 2 hours this am.

    New addiction. 1/2 cup of Oat milk and 1/2 cup sugar free chi. I know the sugar free sweetener is bad but I have dramatically cut down on chocolate and sugar cravings. Oh and I add a scoop of vanilla veg. Protein powder. Blend it in my little travel blender and pour it over ice. 😋😋😋😋😋

    I ended up with two new pairs of shoes. I tried them both this morning. Did a mile with the hokas then another half mile with the asics, 3 mph. Still a little pain in the foot but not as bad. I decided to wait on the custom insoles, but I'll go back next month and get those. Apparently I over pronate. The whole foot analysis thing was interesting.

    Oh my gosh, the veggie rice was delicious! Next time, I will make it ten minutes before I leave for work! Made it too early and had it stay warm in Hot Logic… no bueno! Too overcooked!

    Thank you Mihani and Magic. I greatly appreciate the feedback. I 'll definitely give them a try. Yesterday, I attended my first WHFB potluck hosted by Kaiser Permanente. I made a Thai red curry with vegetables and Thai seasoned tofu accompanied by brown rice. To my surprise it was all gone prior to the meeting ending.
    Hanging out with like minded people and at different stages in their journeys was very inspiring. Grateful to be here, thanks everyone.

    WOW, WFPB potluck by Kaiser. That's amazing! Good for them and you. Boy they have come a long way...love it! And WTG for making such a delicious dish! Happy you are here!

    I can tell you that sticking to a plant based life style sure helps when life gets messy. Because, at the very least, you know you have that going for you. My adversaries, at work, that seem to get joy out of disrupting my life with snide comments and whispers (mind you these are 3 grown adults acting like 13 year old girls in junior high...and two of them are men) live off of Monsters, Fire Cheetos, ice cream and assorted fast food. THAT is my revenge. Them, doing themselves in all by themselves.

    I turn 76 on Sunday...the youngest (55) of the three walks around the dealership like an old man. The other day, I had to lead a customer all the way to the back, to parts, before they closed to pick up floor mats. We zoomed back there...and he was Young and FIT. In the end, the parts guy told him to drive his car around to pick up the mats. On the way back, I said, well at least we got some exercise. He agreed and then was shocked when I told him I was 76 on Sunday. He was quite impressed. Moral of the story ... (pay attention Bisky), when others try and knock you down, keep your head up cuz our LIFESTYLE plays a key role in "beating" the mean "girls" and leaving them in the dust in more ways than one!

    Hey all, had a rough day yesterday with a raging headache. Ended up leaving work around 3:00 and I slept off and on for the next ohhhh... 36 hours. I was planning to work all weekend anyway so I'm fine with it. I needed a day away from that place. Went out with my pals tonight for some wine and will be in the office early tomorrow. I need some time with nobody bugging me to get through some work that is piling up.

    The potluck sounds like lots of fun, Alexa, and excellent that your dish was such a hit. I don't really know anyone in real day to day life who is vegan or WFPB, but I get inspiration here. My family and close friends know I'm vegan and are very accommodating, but I don't mention it much around others because the "so what do you eat" conversation got boring. LOL

    Nanc, your stir-fry sounds really good. I am going to have to try the spring roll salad someday.

    M, so sorry bout the headache...hope your weekend day at work is as peaceful as possible. I will post a picture of he frozen veg I get from Costco. Really good...better than anything I have ever bought frozen from the local markets.

    Nanc, Trader Joe's has good stir-fry veggies too. The store brands are always so meh. Good for soups and things but not so much to eat straight up. I just hardly ever get to TJ's because it's in a really busy snarly traffic part of town.

    I spent about 8 hours in the office yesterday and feel like I barely made a dent because my boss was there and wanted me to work on some things for him. I'm going in this morning but plan to be out by noon to go to the grocery and come home to do laundry and will work more here at home with nobody bugging me since he'll probably be in during the afternoon.

    Happy Birthday Nanc!

    Sleep was a little spotty last night and didn't want to get up this morning so I skipped the treadmill. Will get that done tonight. I've decided to start taking dinner to the office so that I am not eating at 7:00 or later getting home so late. I did a little prepping yesterday so I have roasted broccoli and mini peppers to add to my salads.

    Mihani - I think that is smart and proactive to have an earlier dinner at work. I use to work with a nurse…we did the 7 am to 7 pm shift and she always took a 5:30 break to have dinner. She was a “ health nut”. Now I appreciate her healthy habits.

    Hint: Somewhere Greenland and Flagstaff!

    I lost 4 lbs since the move! I don’t feel like I have done much different other than a lot of fruits and nuts instead of sugar, chips and crackers. A lot of gluten free stuff is full of sugar.

    Can you narrow it down between the states and Canada, Bisky?

    I ended up getting out of the office at 5:30 so I brought my salad home to eat but it was nice it was all ready regardless of where I had it. I will definitely eat it at the office today because I have a hair appointment at 6:00 and won't get home until after 7:00.

    B - oats with all the usual goodies
    L - big ol' salad (spring mix, tomatoes, grapes, roasted peppers and broccoli, sweet potato, chickpeas, splash of bragg's, a bit of dijon and a sprinkle of nooch)
    D - an apple and a yogurt after I get home from hair appt

    I forgot about the salad scissors, remember when those were all the rage here? I used them this morning on my salad so it will be easier to eat at work.

    since I go to the sauna after work, I eat dinner at work and then a smoothie bowl after the sauna...when I keep to that routine, I do sleep better

    I've been re-reading Dr. Essy's Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. I think I'm due to go back to the doc to update my bloodwork next month and see whether I've done anything to lower my cholesterol on my own. If it has not gone down I'll have to start on cholesterol lowering meds. The doc said it may truly just be hereditary but the only thing in my diet that had changed was eating small amounts of oil on a daily basis with the food from the grab and go, so I am hoping that is what it was and I've quit buying those and I'm getting consistent exercise. Fingers crossed.

    Mihani - Good idea to watch that cholesterol. Sometimes if you do everything right you can still have high levels. Remember that fitness trainer Bob on the biggest Loser (/what a joke of a show) ….he was a vegetarian and had a heart attack on a treadmill. It truly can be hereditary.

    Magic - I love saunas! I take one after swimming. A smoothie bowl sounds so refreshing and healthy!

    I made the tastiest easiest butternut soup. You know I am a lazy cook? Made 5 cups of vegetarian Better than Bouillon broth…used about 1/4 cup to roast a package of precut butternut squash and another 1/4 cup to sauté a mirepoix mix also from Trader Joe’s. After roasting squash added it to the pot with 4 cups of broth ….brought to a boil then simmer 15 min. Then added it to blender. Served with a squiggle of balsamic glaze. Added a little more broth and blended again. The recipe said salt and seasonings to taste but it was delicious.

    PICKLEBALL…Dr’s appt to discuss HRT and then swim plus dog walk.

    It is in the USA but borders Canada. 😊😱🤪

    A furnished house in this area is fantastic! Whew prices are so out of control right now. I have heard complaints but I actually looked at places for sale AND for rent in this area and it is crazy.

    Our attic has been fully cleaned out, disinfected, deodorized, sealed, caulked and re-insulated. We are still waiting on the special order parts for the shower. We wanted to have a bin dropped off so that we could do a massive cleanup but they need 16 feet of clearance for both height and width to get up the driveway and we have one big tree that we love that I am pretty sure makes the driveway impassible. It is very close. We are considering having them leave the bin halfway up the driveway.

    Ohhh... Bisky you just reminded me of a roasted butternut squash recipe that Carla shared a while back that was so good. I'll have to look that up. I think I might have seen one or two episodes of biggest loser back in the day. It was a weird show, but I like Jillian's 30 day shred video.

    How are things going at work Nanc? You keeping it zen?

    It took me a little bit to settle back into regular habits after the party. Too much junky vegan food, sweets, and alcohol got me. I've done great this week. Three days in a row back on track. Yay!

    Getting warmer….I wish Bellingham but keep going north west!

    Had a good pickle ball lesson, Drs appointment after followed by 550 m swim. Then up and down steps to take boxes and unpack. Feel bad about not walking dogs but will have big walks this weekend. I can’t wait to go to bed.

    Carla - you must be thrilled to have mouse house cleaned up. Your place is so pretty.

    Mihani - I hated that show and felt so bad for the contestants. Most of them were very sweet people who needed a healthy diet, an eating disorder therapist and low impact exercise such as water aerobics, swimming and walking. AND SLOW WEIGHT LOSS SONTHEY WOULD NOT GAIN IT BACK!

    So I am addicted to my sugar free chai and Planet Oatmilk. Such a good fall drink. Going to look for a savory pumpkin soup recipe next.

    I don't remember that recipe, Mihani. Was it a Clean Food Dirty Girl one? We've been having our meal plan for almost a year now. I still don't really have the urge to cook, but I have put on weight. I don't think it is the meal plans in particular but rather the cravings that go along with having more carbs and more deluxe sort of meals.

    Carla, I think maybe it was CFDG. A Thanksgiving theme with roasted butternut squash but I can't remember what else was in it off the top of my head. Awesome comfort food.

    Yeah, I wasn't doing well with the grab and go foods. I think it was just more calorie dense than I'm used to and the oils weren't good for me. I'm still trying to support her business by going in for smoothies and buying dishes with no oil.

    North... to Alaska. Now that song will be running through my head all day Bisky. LOL
