It's a miracle! I really expected to gain at least a pound, if not more. My intake has been about the same, but I've allowed myself some "comfort" items that often cause some fluid retention. Seems sugar affects me more than salt. And of course, my step count is lower and so is my burn. These were particularly affected on Sunday, when I was super sore due to the "running after the dog" incident. But I'm happy to see that even when life happens, everything doesn't go to hell in handbasket immediately. I just have to remember to not use the surgery as an excuse to go too far off the norm and try to do better this week.
Here are my 7-day averages, and just look what having to walk slowly on flat surfaces for less time does to my kcals burned. Shows it's not just distance but speed and terrain. Longing for my hills. Follow-up appointment is October 25. Hoping I'll get a good report and be allowed to participate again in class.
Steps = 7,085
Kcals burned = 1,496
Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

I'm glad for that weight. Yesterday was my yearly check-up, and my weight was up from last year. Doc says I'm fine and look good. He's a fun and funny guy. He always tells me "you're an athlete", just a little tongue in cheek, lol. His examination was good . . lungs clear, strong heart, etc. I'm crossing my fingers for the lab results on blood sugar/ cholesterol, etc. He ordered a thyroid test after I complained I had gained weight since last year. . I thought to myself, "Unnecessary . . I know I just eat too much" I have to go back in for another DEXA scan, and also I'm due for a colonoscopy . . . UGH. He said this would be my last one if it's good. I mentioned occasional acid reflux, and I wish I hadn't because he ordered a stomach scope to be done at the same time. Scheduled the mammogram also. Wow. . I'll be completely tested. Now I know why I have friends who don't go to the doctor, lol.
Sarah, great job maintaining after surgery! I'm so happy you're feeling pretty good, and caring for the incision. I think you're going to have to learn (from me, hah) how to say "No" to neighbors though. I mean, you had surgery girl! Surely that's a good excuse not to have to care for a dog that runs! You're a good neighbor. I hope all went well at your class.
Kelly, I hope your Birthday was wonderful! If you were at the cabin, I'm sure it was!
Lois, wow, you really did attack that cleaning job. I have been putting off way too many of those type of chores, but I'll have to get into some before the holidays. Thank you for the "Mojo" compliment. Some days I think it's slipping though. My trainer is in California this week, so I'm left to my own devices. I've worked out Mon and Tues, and today was golf, but the weight training is really the thing I need her for to push me to do it. I'll be sending you good thoughts for your toe. Once you get all these things addressed, I'm sure you'll find your mojo again.
Playdates soon . . take care all.

Great job Sarah!!! Especially when you're limited on activity etc. Keep it up.
Sheesh - Great job on your reduction - and with your trainer being out. I agree, somehow the trainers really get you to push yourself. And I agree, aren't these follow ups fun!!! WOOT WOOT party time.
So my toe - yes, I cried when he injected the numbing stuff. Dang that really hurts. Once it got numbed, I didn't feel a thing, until close to bedtime. Then the throbbing started intensely. Today is much better. I took the bandage off and it actually looks better already. Hopefully the pain will be over in just a couple of days. I don't recall how long it lasted after the last procedure.
I have my follow up with my new primary - in an hour. Like you Sheesh, I need to get the mammo on schedule. He will probably also order a dexa and possibly even a colonoscopy as well. Wish me luck that I can get out of there with only the mammo to schedule. Oh and I'm going to ask for new bloodwork next month (it will have been 90 days from my last one and I want to see how it's going).
Yes, the room is so much cleaner. My bed has been remade and I'm looking forward to sleeping up there this weekend.

Lois, I'm glad your toe procedure is over. And yes, shots in a toe are something else. Years ago, when I was still running for exercise, I had a toe bothering me and a podiatrist put a shot of cortisone or something in the toe joint. I told him I didn't need any numbing ahead of the shot (how dumb is that?), and I did well until I reached my office parking lot. Got out of my car and promptly passed out! Good thing that my boss was looking out a conference room window. Hopefully, this time will do the trick for you. I looked at Phoenix weather this morning, and it looks like a really nice day out there, so put on those sandals and enjoy.
Sheesh, a half pound is a good loss for us shorties. I remember you and I logging our half-pound losses on the original Body Bugg board. And since that was more than 10 years ago, it's an even better accomplishment today.
I did not enjoy the scale this morning. I was up a full pound even though I had a good day yesterday with both intake and steps. I can't say "exercise" because I still have to walk on flat surfaces at a slow pace, but I got more than 8000 steps and had a good deficit. So that just goes to show me that weight is just going to fluctuate and I have to try to not get too discouraged or encouraged by a number on a scale.
And I'm still waiting for lab results. One of my class members told me yesterday that she is so impressed by how I've handled all the waiting between various procedures and now for these lab results. That made me feel good, but I had to admist that, honestly, I'm getting antsy this time. But at least by this time next week, the wait will be over as my followup appointment is next Friday at 9:30 a.m. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy these early fall days and hope you all do, too.
Kelly, hope you can check in soon.0 -
Sarah - Glad to hear you're doing so well after your surgery If you didn't have the dog situation happen, it sounds like your pain would have been pretty minimal, which is great. I find it amazing that you still found the gusto to go on the treadmill, even if it was at a much slower pace than normal. Just getting your steps in is worth the applause!
Lois - Ugh that poor toe. It sounds so painful and can just imagine the throbbing. Hopefully the pain passes quickly and that you don't need any more procedures. Enjoy spending time in your newly cleaned bedroom now that it's cleaned and your AC is working!
Sheesh - Sounds like you have a great, thorough doctor. That's fantastic.
My birthday was good. The weekend before, I was out at the cabin all weekend with my pup, just cleaning up the yard with all the leaves and gardens. Then on my birthday, I worked all day, then went for supper to a restaurant with Shawn, the kids and their Mom. I told Shawn I didn't want anything for my birthday, but that I do enjoy experiences. Usually we just head to a dinner and a show, but Shawn went all out this year. We're heading to Minneapolis for my 1st NFL game - Vikings vs Colt and then 2 hours later, we're going to an NHL game - Minnesota vs Toronto. Toronto is my hubby's fav team, so I enjoy cheering for them too. So we'll drive down on the Saturday, do the games on the Sunday and drive back the Monday. It's the 1st weekend in November. Really looking forward to it.
Busy Friday at work here. Hopefully next week won't be as busy. Have a good weekend!0 -
So glad to hear from everyone. Sarah - breathe!! Results will be known soon. And I'm sure they will all be good! I'm keeping the prayers and thoughts for that.
So my toe is feeling SO MUCH better today. Refreshing the neosporin and bandaid whenever the toe begins to itch. So I'm ok with that.
I did meet with my new primary yesterday. I probably had mentioned that he was quite off-putting in our first meet/greet a few months ago and I wasn't looking forward to yesterday's appointment. Having failed at discovering a replacement primary, I kept the appointment. I asked one of his nurses if he smiles and she chuckled that's just how he is. He's very focused and intense. I have a couple of other friends with a similar personality, so when he came in, I took control of the conversation and directions. I also shared my history of being physically active until my MIL took my time and then listed the subsequent injuries etc. that I've experienced since COVID. Guided him to more of a nutritionist/dietician direction to help me versus other medications etc. Not interested in bariatric surgeries etc. He was very open and easier to share information. He agreed that the radiologist must have mixed up mammo/dexa notes that they sent him from another patient as I haven't yet had my mammo/dexa this year and not really concerned with osteoporosis with me (mammo/dexa is scheduled for next week). He stepped out of the room and then came back in with a bunch of his handwritten notes about our meeting and went over it. We had such a pleasant talk and then he walked me to the check out desk. We've also scheduled the bloodwork to be redone just before Thanksgiving (before the holidays really set in) and I'll meet with him again mid december. We're both concerned with the glucose, A1C etc especially since it was a jump from the past five years. I'll be staying with him for a bit longer. Gosh getting older is so time consuming with appointments.
Kelly - great news on your birthday. Your celebration plans sound great. And I'm with you. I don't need gifts, we'd much rather have experiences together.
Oh and Sarah - the weather TODAY is amazingly cooler and breezy. I think we'll have a high of 76 - down from our 95 just yesterday!!! I've got all doors and windows open. I'm still resting the toe today as we've got the pumpkin patch with Rhea tomorrow. We'll be bringing my knee scooter, walking boot AND a transporter wheel chair just in case they are needed. I'll know more tomorrow morning when I attempt to put on my sneakers and see how successful that is. But as I mentioned above - experiences are important and I just love time with Rhea.
Hoping my toe feels better soon and I can begin morning walks. Doc agrees that I need to stay off the trails and sidewalk walking is a much better option (even tho I hate it - especially with cars zipping all around. The park closest to us has a 1/4 mile loop and half of it is along the road...can't fully escape the cars.

OMG. Of course we have the gorgeous weather while I'm recovering with my toe!!! We were in the 70's and now.....back to the 90's!!!! UGH.
Anyhow, I did get a sock/shoe on my foot on Saturday. We brought the wheelchair and scooter just in case. Since Rhea was only good for a few hours. So just when I was ready to send hubby to the car for the wheelchair, Rhea's parents decided it was time to go. Hubby was happy because the farm was going to be a challenge with the wheelchair. Hard packed dirt and lots of bumps. But we had a great time. Weather was gorgeous...I actually got 8k steps. Afterwards, I was hurting!!! Some ice and more Tylenol/Advil and ice were needed.
My toe is healing, but not quite ready for socks and shoes or lots of walking.0 -
Glad to see all of your posts here. Sarah, you're doing extremely well with your recovery, movement, and patience . . looking forward to hearing the lab results.
Kelly, how fun to go to your first NFL game!! I just went to my first on our visit to Cali. I'm sure you'll enjoy that! You're going to be so close . . makes me want to buzz up to Minnesota to say "hey"! Have fun at both games.
Lois, it's painful just reading about your toe. Ugh. Hope it all heals up fast. And, it sounds like you had a positive check-in with your new primary doctor. Taking control was what works for both of you.
Well, today I've been to the dentist for a check and cleaning, and then went for my DEXA scan. One scary thing . . my doctor's office called me to say one of my lab tests was abnormal. Apparently I have very high calcium levels in my blood. It can be dangerous because it can deposit in arteries of the heart and other organs, and cause kidney stones. It can be caused from taking too much calcium (maybe), certain medications (tums . . could be), or leeching calcium from my bones into the bloodstream. (yikes) So, I'm told to stop taking anything that could be adding calcium to the blood, and to drink lots of water and come back to re-test in a month. Sigh. Okay, got that scheduled, so now I'm really nervous about the results of the DEXA scan. Last time was a bit scary, with osteopenia, and a couple of discs with osteoporosis. Please think happy thoughts featuring strong bones for me over the next month or so.
I'll be back here tomorrow for weigh-in day. Take care.

Goodness. I posted earlier, actually saw the post, but came back, and it's nowhere to be found!! I logged on to let you know that I heard from the surgeon's office late yesterday. The results were not as good as I hoped, but not as bad as they could be. I have what is known as an encapsalated papillary cancer state zero. They also said it is a ductal carcinoma in situ, estrogen positive. Turns out this is a very rare form of breast cancer, but one that is noninvasive and easily treated. The reason for the delay was that my surgeon wanted to confer with some other surgeons to make sure that she got all the margins, and they agreed that no further surgery is needed. I will meet with the surgeon and a medical oncologist in a few days regarding treatment, which I anticipate will be some radiation.
Makes me wonder how I ended up with this. There's no cancer in my family and I take good care of myself. But regardless of the why, that's what I'm dealing with. Hubby left for Texas early this morning, and he really did not want to go. Even sneaked and called his boss, but I told him that there was no reason for him not to go. It's an important trip and nothing is going to change here between now and Thursday afternoon when he returns. And I feel fine. So I'm just trying not to pre-worry (which I can be good at).
I went to my class today because we were being observed by someone from Bone Builders and everything went fine. I just did the lower body, balance and stretching, and my co-leader did all the upper body stuff. I don't know how treatment will affect my ability to continue teaching, but I hope that it doesn't keep me from going. These ladies have become an important part of my life.
Lois, I am glad that the toe is doing better, and my goodness--8,000 steps is fantastic! Kelly and Sheesh, hope all is well with you. I'll weigh-in tomorrow.

OK. So I had my mammogram and dexa this morning. Mammo results just received - all good. I am anticipating Dexa to be fine as well. Toe is healing...itching is a positive sign I believe.
Sheesh and Sarah - keeping the prayers going for more positive news on both of your fronts!!0
