Hi 👋 Unfortunately I need to take a couple of months off. I’m not in the right headspace right now. Lots of things pulling me in different directions. I’m also having surgery is a couple of weeks. Wishing you all wellness & enjoyable holidays!3

Small loss this week; actually quite surprised that I lost anything after a couple of nights out and not tracking food. I’m so close to my goal weight, I hope I can get there before Christmas 🎅🏻1 -

Way to walk Weight No More!
November's slow start continues but we still made over a quarter of a million steps! Keep up the fabulous stepping!
Our bolded members set a step goal for the week and met it!
If you want to join the step challenge for November:Just post your steps by the end of Wendnesday after the week ends. I'm flexible and might wait a day or two for you. If we're 'friends', I may drop a personal note to you to check in. If we aren't, and you'd like a personal note, send me (melaniedscott) a friend request.
Part of the challenge or new and want to add or update a goal?If you want to... be bold (heehee), let us know how many steps you want to hit every day on average and we'll keep track of it for you!
For anyone confused about where we are ...This is post is for Nov 10-16. For those interested in joining the November step challenge (you can join any time!), the week of November 17th (11/17-11/23) steps should be posted by Wed, November 27th.
Awesome walking steps team!

I didn’t wear my watch on Wednesday because I had surgery and then wasn’t in work the rest of week. I was supposed to be resting but I am not really good at that. I did decorate my house for Christmas yesterday which I normally wouldn’t do for another week. I go back to work tomorrow so should get more steps in and then hopefully should start getting some exercise in.0

Y'all, I'm in the States, and this is a holiday week. I'm with my family this whole week and food is NOT going well. Not to mention I'm way less active with them than normal. It's only going to get worse as we get closer to Thanksgiving. Help.1

Think about what is coming and make a plan. I will eat x amount of foods a, b, c--they're my favs. I won't eat any of d, e, f--I don't love them. Or something like that--if you know there will be a big dinner, have smaller but nutritionally dense meals earlier in the day (like boiled eggs at breakfast and meat/cheese/lettuce wrap at lunch). It is too early for me to find veggie options, usually I can suggest those, too. And then stick to your plan. Then take a walk after meals, invite others to walk with you. Figure out what works for you.1 -

@miscanon3617 - On top of what Melanie suggested, drink a bunch of water and remember to eat slowly. But, overall, please remember that a single week will not derail all of the progress you've made, even if you overdo it a little bit. A pound is approximately 3500 calories, and gaining a pound means you've eaten all of those calories OVER what you normally burn from merely existing (for most people, that's around 1600-2000 calories per day). Any extreme fluctuations on the scale are probably water weight due to excess salt and sugar, and rarely is the full fluctuation due to gaining unhealthy bodyfat. Be kind to yourself, do your best, treat every decision like a new decision (i.e., eating a slice of pie is not an excuse to eat the entire pie).1 -
I have a note in our spreadsheet that the following are planning on returning in December:
@daria0919
@Kyra_TB97
@andja87
Let me know if this is still the case, or if you need more time - any update counts! You are welcome to stay on the Support Team as long as you need, but having a plan to return to the weight loss team is the best way to be successful in here.0 -
@melaniedscott @minstrelofsarcasm
Thanks for your advice! Those are very practical things to do/keep in mind. I think I'm just worried about judgement for my choices and not having as much control. Also of binging. I'm in recovery, and all of this is bringing back old behaviors.
But you're right. I can still make choices, and I can make good choices around food.0 -

@miscanon3617 - Got it, having a bad history with food certainly complicates things. I would recommend setting a couple (soft) rules for yourself that you believe you can follow about 80-90% of the time. Things like never eating food without using a plate/bowl, consuming a fruit/vegetable with every meal (including snacks!), matching each alcoholic beverage with a full glass of water, etc... having a policy in place helps a lot, and if anyone questions you, you can fall back on "it's been my policy to do [insert habit here]" and most people will be understanding. Melanie's suggestions work great here.1 -
