Okay, a pretty decent gain. Not unexpected though with the holiday and family here.
Sarah, I feel so bad about your Teddy. I really hope he (she?) improves. It's such bad timing for you. You are the best pet "mama" though. . you really look after your pets with so much love. Glad you finally got a response from the Maryland clinic (with the help of your doc). I agree it's a good idea to make the appointments, and then see what happens with John Hopkins. At that point you can weigh the positives and negatives, including your experience thus far, and that of your friends. I'm sending you prayers.
Lois, you are really getting your money's worth out of your DL passes! I'm happy for you and your family's enjoyment of the happiest place on earth. And, it sounds like all the walking is good for your health, but making lasagna isn't, It's weird how the little things are sometimes the thing that throws out our backs or breaks bones. My aunt broke her hip just stepping off a 4" curb. I think I broke my foot walking up a hill while golfing. Sometimes things just happen out of the blue. I hope your back feels better soon.
Well, the family from OR visit went extremely well! We did a lot of really fun activities, including Luminaria (I might post photos), "Wicked", taking kids to swim at my local Rec center, little kids to "Moana 2", Thanksgiving dinner, board games, etc. We ate at home four dinners, and 3 dinners out, including a nice restaurant before Luminaria. It was the first time my SIL had seen his new niece. BTW, she turned one year old yesterday! We had a little early celebration while they were here for her. She LOVES cake! It was everywhere, lol!!
But, I'm back to the regular this week. Had my trainer Monday . . I'm still sore today. But, I did manage a walk yesterday which helped the soreness. I've been doing laundry and cleaning up, while also decorating for Xmas. Today, I'm getting more shopping done.
I hope you all have a great week.

Sheesh - it sounds like you had an amazing holiday celebration with your family. And yes, we are getting our money's worth from the DL passes. One last trip for the remainder of the year. Can't wait to get some more trips lined up for next year. My back is feeling much better today. I drove to/from the office and sat through several meetings. Took Advil when I got home and it really helped. And man, we still have a ton of decorating to finish. My back really delayed us (hubby had to tend to me instead of decorating).0

Yep, I'm up a bit, too. More than holiday eating, I think it's comfort eating due to all the stress (my upcoming treatment, Teddy's illness, hubby's back pain, some dear friends who are very ill, and so on.)
Sheesh, Teddy is our male kitty, and he's just an adorable big lunk! He doesn't seem to be in pain, but it's evident to us that he is still losing weight despite eating pretty well. It really hit hubby once he got home from his trip. He said Ted jumped up on the bed to be petted and he could tell how thin he's getting and just hopes we aren't going to lose him. And after he said that he just broke down and sobbed. You get so attached to pets, and we've had Ted and his sister for 12 years. They were rescues. After consulting with our vet again, and having her consult with a second vet in her practice, we were referred to a cat internal medicine specialist (yep, they exist), but the first appointment we can get is December 18. That's right before we are supposed to leave for NC. Whether we do, is kind of iffy right now and contingent on what the specialist vet tell us. If we decide we can't leave him alone except for the twice daily pet sitter visits, my sister would understand. But my aunt who hosts the family brunch each Christmas would not. She has been retired for quite some time now, but I remember her saying once that she almost fired an employee who was late because she took her dog to the vet. I would fire an employee who didn't take a sick pet to the vet! But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Today was a busy day. We drove up to Frederick to do some necessary shopping. I will post some pictures of that town. It's such a pretty, classic east cost town, and we prefer to drive the 20 miles up there to shopping in the chaos around here. And I got back just in time to have lunch and then get to the dentist. Mentioning the dentist, the hygenist used a new technique for cleaning teeth. They first use a dye and then use high powered water, and then some type of high powered fine abrasive. It's supposed to do less damage to the enamel than the traditional type of cleaning, but what an odd sensation. Not sure yet how I feel about it. But losing my teeth is one of my primal fears. I used to dream about that a lot. Haven't in recent years, though. That dream, and the dream about finding rooms in my house that I didn't know were there, seem to have been common when I was working, but have not occurred since.
Well, it's time to think about dinner and getting in some steps. Before I go, here are my 7-day averages.
Steps = 10,420
Kcals burned = 1,783
And before I go, those are great pictures, Sheesh. You have such a lovely family and it makes me happy just to look at them. Do they need an extra aunt?
And Lois, I do hope that your lasagna injury is getting better.
Kelly, hope to hear from you soon. I know that your daughter's surgery is just around the corner and I have been thinking about you.

Sheesh - those pictures are ADORABLE....love the pedi picture. Core memories were made!!! ANd it looks so cold. Brrrrr..
Sarah - that pic is awesome. so serene and relaxing. I hope your little Teddy improves. Losing them is so hard. That's why after our last cocker spaniel past away, we didn't get another. The heartache was too intense for us.... You're right...they are part of the family and we still feel their loss. And it was after they past away that I was tested and discovered I'm highly allergic to them... whoda thunk? - I grew up with dogs, and a few cats too. Explains a lot of bronchitis issues in the winter, but back then we didn't test for allergies. If it's on your aunt and don't want to cause issue - lie and say one of you is ill all of a sudden. The drama isn't worth the truth.
My back seems to be improving every day. I did have to take one muscle relaxer last night at bedtime. I did more activity - some adjusting of boxes and gifts in my office area and packing for this weekend. Hubby's working now to get the area prepped to put the tree up and hopefully we can take a run to storage to get rid of some of the extra stuff before my friend arrives to clean the house. It's not looking promising, but hopeful.

Sheesh - Thanks for sharing those pictures! The pedi pic is super cute And it sounds like you had an amazing time.
Sarah - I'm so sorry to hear about Teddy. Hopefully they can figure out what is causing the weight loss and cough. At least he doesn't seem like he's in pain. Pets sure are resilient! All of this stress definitely contributes to our all over health. I didn't realize how much until this last year. It's been a tough one. That picture you posted is beautiful!! It looks so calming with no people in the streets.
Lois - Sorry to hear about the lasagna incident. It sounds like a pain. *Pun intended* lol But I'm glad
you're managing to move around and that meds are helping.
What's happening around here? We bought a car for our son to use. It's definitely been helpful so we all don't need to be taxi drivers all the time.
It's our daughters 15th birthday today so we're heading to her Mom's for cake once Hubby is off work. Her surgery is on Monday, so I'll be working from home Wednesday to Friday next week just so she has someone around if she needs something.
Hubby is still having foot issues. It seems to flare up with weather, so I'm sure it's some type of arthritis. Unfortunately, when he gets like this, everything is left up to me to get done. Just as he's starting to improve, I feel like I'm getting ANOTHER cold. I went to bed at 730 last night and slept through the whole night, woke up feeling a bit better. I'm hoping to keep it at bay, as I get sick almost every Christmas/New Years. I always find I start feeling crappy once I start to get into a groove of working out too. I was back to waking up in the morning before work and everything. Oh well.. I'll find my mojo one of these days. Finally bit the bullet and bought some new jeans... sad as I'm a size up.
We haven't had a chance to go to the cabin much lately. Too busy with life... but we're hoping to head out there on the 20th for a couple of days.. then maybe again for New Years. The kids go back and forth between houses during the Christmas week.
I'm feeling the typical December stress of money and getting things done in time, like buying presents. It seems like everywhere we turn we need to spend more and more money. It doesn't help that everything is so darn expensive these days..
Anywho, my day is ending here at work so I better get going.

Kelly, Happy Birthday to your daughter! And, I'm sending my good thoughts for her surgery. Life is expensive, and I'm nervous that it might get more expensive soon. Sorry about Shawn's foot, and I hope you don't get a cold this Christmas. I was reading about getting sunlight, and how beneficial it is for the immune system. We need to all get outside more in the winter and get some sun on our skin. Maybe Lois will let us come visit Phoenix!
Sarah, Frederick looks like a beautiful greeting card type of town. So pretty. And yes, my family would love to adopt an auntie!! I'll tell them all that's what I am gifting them for Christmas! Auntie Sarah from Maryland.
Lois, take care of yourself! Don't worry too much about the decorating . . other than the new Mickey and Minnie, lol.
I had my trainer again today, and I'm feeling it tonight. And, I'm supposed to get 21 days of walking workouts for my Apple Challenge Badge. . hmmm, we shall see. Busy times.

So funny that you mention the sun, as my coworkers and I were just talking about that. We have such a lack of sun lately.. probably only 1 day in 2 weeks, so I just pulled out my blue happy lamp for my office desk to see if it helps. I'm willing to do whatever to keep this cold at bay and to help improve my mood. I've been so crabby lately. Little things setting me off and bringing me down. I'll work on changing that.
Have a great weekend all!0 -
Happy Friday ladies - and yes Sheesh - we have a spare room and plenty of sunshine to share so yes, you're welcome to visit...lol. Some mornings I get to enjoy a cuddly sweatshirt and by lunch (sometimes breakfast), back into my short sleeve tech shirt.
Kelly Happy Birthday to your daughter and I will pray for a speedy procedure and an easy recovery. I hope your lamp helps a bit. Hubby takes those Airborne gummies since he's around kids all day. I don't know if you've tried them or if they are a placebo, but he rarely gets ill.
Christmas decorations from my activity is paused until next week. Hubby's making headway and I'm supervising...lol. He did get the tree up...again decorating it will be sometime next week.0 -
Oh my goodness... what a weekend. We got into Cathedral City about 2am. Slept until 6ish and hit the road before 7. We got to Disneyland about 830am and chatted with a cast member on how to see the Candlelight Procession. Welp. All curb spots were already taken and spare seat allotments were already dispersed. We were told to hang at It's a Small World and follow the procession. Once they load onto the stage, we could then fill in extra spots at that time. NOPE. Somehow, they filled that in also just before the show. HOWEVER, we were directly behind the rope at the end of the procession, so we got to hear them singing all of the way to the middle of main street. I had tears in my eyes, it was so beautiful. We were then scooted of to the side and walked out of the park and back in and looped around 4 times to catch the show. Thankfully for my back and leg, I limped along slowly and we were able to catch a good portion of the show. Katheryn Hahn was the narrator and she had done an amazing job. We attempted to catch the 730 show, but were told that those spaces were already allocated as well so we went to Jolly Holiday for a grilled cheese and tomato soup dinner. Being in pain, I called it an early night...and we walked slowly towards the exit. As we were moseying past and attempting to catch the show, a cast member heard me say there was space and lifted the rope and allowed us to join!! We were able to watch the last 15 mins or more. OH my goodness - so moving and amazing. We got in 21k steps on Saturday...and Sunday I was in so much pain. But we hit up the parks for last minute shopping and gingerbread collection. The only ride I went on was it's a Small World Holiday, but between the decorations, environment AND the processional, this was one of my favorite trips. Got home late and am exhausted and I have so much for year end, that I could not take today off. The struggle is real.
We lost track of how many gingerbread cookies we needed/wanted and ended up with SOOOOO many. Our refrigerator is full. Seriously . I think I have 20 of the gingerbread men, 10 of the larger mickey Gingerbread heads and 40 smaller (think chocolate chip cookies shape/size). I planned on 10 gingerbread men - 5 for gifts and 5 for my freezer...lol and the 40 is for Christmas eve/Christmas day.. Hubby decided he's got a list for the extra Mickeys.... lol No, I'm not going to eat them all. But i do like to keep them in the freezer to enjoy in July.
The food we ate on the way home was super salty. THis trip I went up 1/2 lb and I'm hoping it was the salt (pork adobo and rice, and brisket sliders were part of our sip/savor pick ups that we ate on the drive home).

Hi, everyone. Kelly, you and your daughter were among my first thoughts this morning. I do hope that the surgery goes well and that the after-surgery PT will get her back to being active as soon as possible. Not being able to participate in her sports has to be very hard and yet it seems like she has been able to keep a good attitude about it all. I also hope that Shawn's foot is doing better and that your cold did not linger. With this surgery and the holidays, you certainly have enough on your plate. And I think we all empathize with the "to do list" being too long this time of year and the back of the mind worry about all the expenses. I'm amazed at how much everything seems to cost these days, and like Sheesh, I'm afraid we are in for even higher costs here in the U.S. And of course, I'm kind of bracing for the medical costs that I think will hit me over the next few months. For one thing, I'm not sure that insurance will cover my visit at Hopkins this Friday, and of course, I'll have all my deductibles to pay at the first of the year. With radiation starting, I'm sure I'll meet my medical deductible right off the bat. But I also keep holding my breath, expecting some of my costs to not be covered at all. Insurance companies do their best not to cover something, if they can.
And I agree that the cold temps and lack of light can get to us. I'm reading books that take place in Iceland where they have only 5 hours of daylight in the winter, and I wonder how they do it. I am still trying to get used to it being dark by 5 o'clock. But we did get an unexpected break in the weather yesterday. I was actually able to put on a sweater and one of those very light, packable down jackets and get my walk in outside. It was such a treat. Today, it's raining and very chilly though, so it's back to the treadmill.
And mentioning treadmills, mine is making noises again, so we went to an excercise equipment store on Saturday to look for a new one. Sadly, they don't make them as streamline as my old Precor 9.2, but I think I will soon have no choice but to choose one of the ones they offer. We found a Horizon that is not too awfully big and it gets good reviews. There's a second store that we want to check before we make a decision. They are located close together, but when we were at the first store, hubby realized that one of his credit cards was missing from his wallet, so we decided it was important to get home quickly. Thankfully, he found it in a shirt pocket.
Lois, I hope that your foot and back are both doing better. The holiday season is hard enough when we're fully healthy.
And thanks to all of you for your kind words and well wishes for Teddy. He is actually doing better. He has not coughed for several days--maybe 4 or 5 now. And he's still eating and playing. It's just this weight loss now that concerns us.
As usual, I'm dreading the long trip down to NC and back and the large amount of work we do beforehand and for my sister while we are there. We did get our Christmas tree up and decorated, so that's at least cheering me up a bit. And this is a big week for me. On Friday, I see both my primary care doc for my annual physical and the Johns Hopkins doc. Hope something hopeful comes out of these.
Sheesh, I would be honored to be gifted as an extra aunt! And you can pin a bow wherever you wish! LOL
Here's a question for you gals. Do any of you clench your teeth at night, and if so, do you use a night guard? I had my 6-month checkup last week, and my dentist and I talked about some of the effects I'm getting from doing that. I don't grind so much as I clench--hard!--and the resulting problems are becoming more noticeable and more worrisome. She said a guard helps if you gring your teeth, but she's not sure if it will help with clenching. But I had coffee with a friend yesterday who said hers seems to help with both.
It seems like we all had some rough times in 2024, and I sure hope that 2025 treats us a bit better. Once I'm through with my treatments, I'd love to set some goals and have you all keep me accountable.
Well, it's time to try to get an item or two checked off my to-do list. I'll be back on Wednesday to weigh in, and who knows what that will bring. Unfortunately, I've bounced from 129 something to 131 something all week, which is a higher range than what I had been able to maintain for a while.

Ella's surgery went well. They were able to fix the ACL and meniscus at the same time. She'll be on crutches for at least 2 weeks and she's taking 2 extra strength tylenol and 2 advil every 8 hours, plus they gave her a prescription for morphine for every 4-6 hours if she needs it. So far the pain is tolerable she said. More achy and nagging. My guess is the numbing hasn't completely worn off yet. She also has an ice machine that she uses every so often. It's day 2 and she's bored already lol She starts some small minor "exercises" this afternoon and then has a new set of them in 3 days. She goes to see her physio next Monday as well. She can't shower for 4 or 5 days... yuck lol
All in all it went well though. Her surgery was an hour and a half late, but at least she wasn't bumped. It took 2 hours and then she had an hour of recovery. She wasn't groggy at all after. She's such a trooper. Shawn's home with her today and then I'm working from home the rest of the week so I can be home with her if she needs something and to manage meds.0 -
YAY for Ella!!! Now the road to recovery. The challenge I encountered, was like her, boredom which led to overactivity. So be sure she still gets in her rest period to allow her body to heal. So glad it all went well!! Good luck Mama!! Be sure to check in on yourself and Shawn as well. Once she is mobile enough and feeling up to it, would it be possible for her to stay engaged with her team? Score keep etc. Sometimes being around the activity is motivating and comforting that she's not being left behind and the team knows she's coming back. I feel for you Kelly. as with Shawn's foot, that's what happened to hubby when my back seized up. And I felt horrible. Every time I attempted to help, I just caused more concern for hubby so it's just as frustrating on us immobile ones knowing we're putting the pressure on our partners. Both peeps are frustrated. Hugs to you during the season to keep everyone together.
Sarah - our temps are CHILLY - COLD for us, but probably just "chilly" for the rest of you (44 lows and 69 high). So I'm starting my mornings with a sweatshirt and socks with my crocs and then down to a t-shirt in the afternoon. Yesterday, I had trip hangover. Had a quick visit with my neighbors because deliveries that were anticipated next week, all arrived on Saturday, so another hand truck full of deliveries to be transferred across the street. And you are probably correct that insurance will do what they can to not cover portions of the treatments. Have you double checked with your provider for Johns Hopkins coverage? And glad Teddy is doing better.
End of year work issues have exploded for me. So I had to reschedule my podiatrist to 12/31. I'm closing almost 20% of my annual closings this month and two more are in jeopardy of not being ready to close. So I'm juggling all sorts of things at the moment. Fun times.
Sheesh hoping all is still going well in your area.0
