3 months and 3 days AF. I want to get passed the 100 day mark and not know which day it is. Let's pretend it doesn't exist. I want to pretend it's not there otherwise, I will want to drink to celebrate it.
The cruise sounds really amazing. The drink package was probably a good deal but I would want to get my money's worth and then some so I would definitely go bonkers and overdo it. Flying on plane AF is ambitious enough but it's for a day. AF on an all-you-can-drink cruise for multiple days straight takes the AF challenge to a whole other level.2 -

12/04/24: 11 days AF (now on day 12!)
@RubyRed427, I plan to try that Undone gin (AF). I used to love gin and tonics. I also want to find an alcohol-free champagne-like, sparkling beverage to toast the New Year. Generally, I don't go for those due to budget constraints (and extra calories), but for a special occasion, I can splurge.
My weight bumped up a bit from last week, but with Thanksgiving and my company's holiday party this past Monday that's to be expected. I'm sure I can fix it over the next several days.
Today is only FOUR WEEKS until 2025, can you believe it?
@globalhiker, I'm in trouble whenever something is free, but if it's already PAID for, then I'm in DEEP trouble! (I don't think I could handle unlimited drinks option on a cruise!)

For some strange reason all of a sudden, I had a bit of wine craving yesterday at dinner. Very odd as I have not had that in a very long time. I just waited and it passed but this displays the alcohol addiction is still with me. lol

12/05/24: 12 days AF (now on day 13!)
@xbowhunter, Good for you for recognizing that craving and resisting, even after all this time! Waiting it out is a good idea - kind of like appetite. It tends to wane after 10-20 minutes. I have to be VERY careful now - I was forced to abstain over the past two weeks because I had very little left in my checking account. Now that my weekly Thursday paycheck has been deposited, I have to KEEP that money for bills and groceries! (That means NO stops on the way home!)
I'll let you know how it works out, and I promise to be honest!

Today is day 97 AF. My husband was super nice yesterday and didn't drink. He was Mr. AF Wonderful,calm and happy and drank his Tejava iced tea instead. I wake up today and it's Friday and my first thought is Oh No. Tonight starts his usual weekend drinking so I get to deal with Mr. NotVeryNice and what I will attempt is to pick up dinner and plan for an early dinner together. It interrupts his drinking.
@xbowhunter can you identify what caused the craving? I am finding my cravings pop up on the days I either sleep poorly (due to whatever I ate the night prior) or when I don't have a chocolate "fix" in the house.
Let's plan for a successful AF weekend. I tell myself it's the only choice.2 -

I had the craving when I was eating a nice venison stir fry. Wine would have pared very well with it, I had to stop myself and tell myself it's just not worth it. Alcohol is the devil's juice!

12/06/24: 13 days AF (now on day 14 - almost TWO WEEKS!)
Last evening was extremely difficult for me until I made it home. Thursday is my weekly payday. I arrived near my home at 4:28pm. If it had been closer to 5pm, I would definitely have stopped at one of my former "haunts" (since they don't open until 5pm) to have their "Gin Martini Service" (which is >2 drinks' worth) with three, blue-cheese stuffed olives and who knows what else as far as food and more alcohol? >Phew!< I just stayed on the bus and went right past them! (Go, ME!)
I then made an "internal bargain" that if the scale read lower this morning, I would go straight home, even if it were just 0.2 lb. lower. As it turns out, this morning my scale showed a 0.8 lb. drop from the day before (from 154.6 to 153.8); so that's my sign! I will NOT stop anywhere except maybe the grocery store (for FOOD only) and then I will go straight home. (I plan to leave work around 3:30pm this afternoon, when it won't be dark yet - yay.)
I joined another MFP challenge for the remainder of this year where we report our weight daily. I am pleased to report that my weight is actually 0.4 lb. down from the day before Thanksgiving, when I weighed 154.2. I take that as a WIN, considering how much I ate that weekend and the couple of days after!
@globalhiker, Day 97, WOW! Best wishes for your early dinner with your husband! I think you're right about the sleep quality/quantity correlation with craving. According to my Fitbit, I got 8 hours and 8 minutes sleep with a "Good" score of 84 last night. (I believe it also helps with the food cravings because my appetite seems more manageable today. I always feel ravenous the day following poor sleep.)
@xbowhunter, it's good that you recognized the craving as coming from a (formerly) habitual pairing with food. "Devil's juice" is a good phrase for it, BUT - you rode it out and came out victorious, once again!🏆 (The craving really does seem to pass, if I wait a bit and think it through, as in, "Is it worth it?" (NO!)
Once I pass my two-week mark (3am Saturday morning), I will feel more confident in my focus and continued progress.

So far, so good. AF all the way. I learned that today's lunch party that bourbon tasting is included and this place has over a hundred on the menu. Just lovely. I will get the pressure today so I promised myself I'll splurge on a bottle of alcohol-removed Mionetto sparking wine on the way home. It's got very good fizz, tastes like prosecco that needs more flavor but the sweet level is just right. I don't buy this because it's normally too $$$ for what is basically a grape juice concoction. But it's on sale today so I'll blow the $15 on it. Probably not the best to use non-alcoholic bev as a reward for not drinking alcohol but it's what I want and the calories are way, way less than a chocolate candy bar.3

Hi, @globalhiker, thanks for the tip regarding the sparkling AF wine that tastes like prosecco! I was looking for something AF with which to ring on the new year, and Mionetto sounds like just the thing! Good point about sparkling grape juice less calories than chocolate!

@globalhiker Totally agree that it makes no sense to pay lots of money for "grape juice" tasting wine. I'm happy you find one bottle that tastes good.

Today is day 100 AF. EEK!!!!!!
99 days done and some hours left until...until what??? Until a new goal. I'm extending my goal to 6 months. I feel as thought the length of time AF strengthens a person so my chances of success may be greater after a very long "time off". I tried abstaining for 3 months before a few times and I was able to moderate for a few weeks then back to square 1.
@Walela617 YAY for getting the big milestone under your belt - the worst is over - doing the happy dance for you!!!
@xbowhunter You've come a long way! I trust you'll make the right decision that is least risky and provides the best reward for you. For me, this effort is similar to training for a half marathon, during training there is progress and achievement and once the race is over, the training slows down or stops, and as always, the weight comes right back on, in about a few weeks time. All that hard earned work goes POOF. That is what is scaring me into staying the course.

You are absolutely correct! I'm way better off not drinking but that nagging little voice is saying try to moderate! lol
I am finding it very easy to maintain my current weight by keeping alcohol out of my body.
My best bet is to hit 90 days then make a new goal of 120days etc etc...4 -
Hi everyone, I haven't been drinking but I haven't posted until now because I've been ill. Turns out, I have COVID!
I even took the test three times to be sure (I have plenty of kits.) Even though they are all past the expiration date, they seem to be working okay.
My symptoms so far have been low fever, congestion and a slight cough, but the worst symptoms are fatigue, weakness and a bad headache.
I must have caught it because I've been riding the city bus so much lately, since it started to get colder and darker.
12/10/24: 017 days AF (on day 18)
I just had my most recent booster on September 21st; so hopefully I'll get over this bout soon. (This is my second time getting COVID; last time the symptoms were very similar. I tested positive for the first time on Halloween, 2022. It lasted for just a few days back then.)
This took a lot of effort, but I wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of all of you and wishing you well. I will check back in tomorrow.

3 months + 11 days AF. Hope you feel better, Carole. It's great you are AF, at least it's helping your immune system fight off Covid.
I treated myself to 2 books, "Atomic Habits" and "The Little Black Book of Workout Motivation". Now I have to get the motivation to read them, LOL.

Hello everyone,
12/12/24: 19 days AF
Thanks so much for your well wishes @globalhiker and @RubyRed427! I am feeling a little better. The headache is gone, thankfully! There's some coughing and congestion and a slight temp, but it's manageable and milder than the first time.
I went to work just to pick up my laptop, then I got some medicine and some fruit and soup and stuff and returned home to work remotely. It went well.
I am reading a book called, "The City Cat" (how to live healthily and happily with your indoor pet). I don't think I'll be able to meet my future cat this weekend as planned, because the foster mom has a baby girl at home and I'm still testing positive with symptoms. (I had two masks on today when I rode the bus, picked up my laptop and went to the store.) I don't want to take the chance of spreading this, especially to a baby!
I'm happy I get to work from home tomorrow. I don't have to worry about traveling. I don't even have to get dressed (though I probably will). I am optimistic that I will feel improved by the morning.

@Carole617 and @xbowhunter Congrats to both of you hitting those milestones! Interesting how days become milestones pretty quick.
My Friday night AF went well. My husband was in a cheery mood even though he was drinking beer. We watched old music videos - all the classics - Eagles, Guns and Roses, Aerosmith, Metallica, Van Halen, even ABBA, it was fun to watch those that had videos of both old and new and how so many still can pull off concerts with high energy into their aging years. Love it.

Hi @globalhiker, that sounds like a fun night! I love watching music videos! My Samsung TV has lots of video music stations that I really enjoy often.
I can't seem to shake this COVID thing. I think I'm testing positive longer than last time, even though I've had a total of ELEVEN shots! (This is day 7): I know there still a lot of virus because the test line shows up within seconds, not minutes.
On the plus side. I have now passed 21 days alcohol-FREE!

@xbowhunter Regarding your comment about maybe moderating, I would say don't do it. I regret terribly that I broke my streak AF and cannot get back that momentum. You've come so far. The alcohol elevator only goes one way .... down! Nothing good comes from it. I'd say you tried to moderate for a few years and it doesn't work for some people. I will support you either way, but I just don't think you'll be happier drinking than you are now.3

Carole- keep it up!! You are past three weeks and nearing one month! So proud of you! Maybe the Covid was a small blessing because you didn't want to even drink. I hope you are feeling better now and can get your little kitty!1
