I'm on week #12 of not weighing. But I popped into a WW Studio today to record a weight. In my goal to not gain weight during the holidays, I asked whether I'd gained, lost or stayed the same. She said I'd lost since last weighing in. I didn't want specifics. I may go again next week to keep that goal front and center.

    Have a great weekend!

Down one pound this week, but I'm still carrying around some of my Thanksgiving weight. More work to do.

Short version? A better week than the past few. I lost a few pounds, and avoided the major potholes I’ve been almost deliberately hitting. Focusing on getting the behaviors on track, so that’s a positive.

Okay - in a slightly more polite version of the historical behavior on GOAD, I’m gonna throw the challenge flag. 😉

Without rereading the whole thread, I thought the intent was to focus on tracking the food choices and managing the behaviors, and let any weight change be an almost incidental result.

I get that you won’t know “the number” if you weigh in next week, but isn’t weighing weekly and looking for directional insight essentially the same as knowing the number? How do you keep that information from influencing the subsequent focus on food choices and behaviors over the following week?

No pun intended, but it sounds a bit like having your cake and eating it too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Fair question, Charlie. But I disagree with your read of "why" I may weigh in again.

TLDR: I'm not looking for "directional" support in going to a WW studio. I'm looking for ways to keep weight loss front and center in the month that is historically the biggest weight gain month for me.

One of the pieces of information I'm looking for in the experiment is, "What calorie deficit can I tolerate that doesn't feel like dieting?" After the first month, that number seemed to be 1350. In previous sustained weigh loss attempts, I would default to 1200 and be miserable. I had a several week blip in my experiment where I was out of town a lot and didn't track but was mindful, especially of alcohol and junk food. I could tell via my clothes that I'd gained a bit. I got back to tracking and 1350 a couple weeks ago assuming the losses would start again. They did. I would have known this without asking (it had been a couple weeks) but I asked. I honestly don't think I would have dropped my calories if I hadn't lost. FWIW, I planned on going to a WW meeting on Black Friday when we were out of town, but my MIL needed some help, so it didn't happen.

Separate from my experiment, I have a short list of goals, one of which is to not gain weight in Q4 like I historically do. In support of that goal, I made a list of tactics that should help. The list included: 1) getting rid of Halloween candy within 24 hours, 2) limiting alcohol to two drinks at Thanksgiving and Christmas events, 3) making provisions to get rid of all leftover food from an annual food-centered fundraiser I chair so that said food doesn't come into my house, 4) no eating sweets at the fundraiser until 4:00 and then only two, 5) go to a weekly WW meeting if I'm feeling weak, 6) deliver all Christmas baking gifts to neighbors within 24 hours of baking.

So far, that list of tactics is helping me stay focused on not gaining weight in Q4. In sixteen years of chairing the event, I have NEVER not had a bunch of sweets in my fridge. So, you might say I had my cake and gave it away too.

    Really appreciate the question!
