Thankfully, I weighed in today at the lower end of my arc. Trust me--my weight fluctuates 2 to 3 pounds from day to day and for no discernable reason sometimes. Last night we treated a couple of our friends to dinner at a nice, new restaurant. It's Chinese, but not your typical Chinese. Their menu is a bit more refined--not the usual Kung Pao chicken, etc. Hubby and I shared a Peking Duck, which came with duck bone soup. I was still surprised that my weight was not up because restaurant food tends to be higher in sodium. I guess it was good that hubby's comment was that the duck was good, but needed salt! LOL
Kelly, I am so happy to hear that Ella's surgery went well and that she feels well enough to complain about being bored. I second Lois's suggestion to also be careful to take care of yourself. I hope your cold is gone. It seems like every third person we know here is suffering from a nasty cold. 'Tis the season, I guess. But again, take care of yourself.
Lois, I'm glad you've had these trips to DL to enjoy the lights and walking and being out in park, and that you also had some fun time with you daughter and SIL. I remember how stressful work can get at year's end so be careful to take care of yourself, too. And thank you for asking about Teddy. He seems to be holding his on, but we'll be glad to see the specialist next week.
While we were at dinner last night, Hopkins called and said they had not yet received my records from Maryland Oncology Hemotology. I said I'd check on those today, but the woman who called said she just wanted to check the names of the surgeon, oncologist, and radiologist that I saw there and that she would take care of getting the records. She was so nice. My friend who recommended this practice said everyone there is very patient-centered.
Sheesh, hope you're doing well and not over-working as you get ready for the holidays. I remember some of your cooking and laundry marathons.
Before I go (and I logged on here first to avoid getting a bunch of paperwork done, that I have to get done today!), here are my 7-day averages:
Steps = 10,461
Kcals burned = 1,773 (I'm really happy with this one. Not long ago, it seemed impossible for me to rach my 1,725 per day goal.)
Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Well okay. That's about what I thought. Have been getting daily exercise, but not paying attention to food or logging. That's what I have to do if I want reductions. It's just too much with everything else this time of year, lol.
Kelly, it's great news that Ella's surgery is done. I hope she takes care to do all of the rehab exercises faithfully. That's what makes the biggest difference with recovery. And, of course, you have to take care of Kelly first and foremost. . it's so difficult when there's many things happening at once, I know. But, just take your 1/2 - 1 hour to move and breathe. It's not that long, and makes a world of difference.
Lois, your DL trip sounds like it was amazing. . even emotional. Very fun. Glad you got to spend time with your daughter and SIL. And, I hope you'll take care of you.
Sarah, your averages are still so great! I know the coming days and weeks are going to be stressful for you. I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts.
I'm sorry to be brief today . . it's been a day! From golf lesson, to treadmill, to wrapping gifts and taking to UPS, to playdate, to dinner. Yikes. I'm looking forward to my bed tonight. I don't know if you remember that we're taking the whole family on an all inclusive Mexico vacation . . we leave after Christmas and through New Year's, returning Jan 3. Whew, I hope I have everything I need, lol!

Happy Monday, everyone. I have been at the high end of my weight arc for the past couple of days, so when I met my friend at Starbucks yesterday, I decided just to have a plain hot tea. Yuck! Not nearly as enjoyable as my usual Chai skinny latte, but I know that I have to start watching the little things or both ends of the arc will move up.
And I also need to be aware that my activity in the next month or so will probably be much less than usual. It’s likely that I will not be able to attend my class while my radiation treatment is going on. And we are planning to do the trip down to NC in one day, so I'll be in the car for 10 hours and I won't have a hotel treadmill. And since the weather probably will not allow much outdoor walking, I don't expect to move much during our visit. I'll work hard--but standing in a kitchen doesn't burn a lot of calories. (But of course, I'm assuming that the vet will give us the green light to go when we see him on Wednesday.) We have not decided how to handle the return trip. We may cut it in half, or we may suck it up and do that leg in one day, too. We’ll see.
But mentioning the holidays, it's wonderful, Sheesh, that you and your hubby are able to give this special trip to your kids, in-laws, and grands. I know you'll have a marvelous time and make a lot of lasting memories.
I actually logged on to also give you gals some good news. My appointment with the radiologist at John's Hopkins on Friday went very well. It was night and day different from the one I had with the Adventist Healthcare group. This new doctor used a predictive tool and plugged in every detail about me and my diagnosis. She then gave me a chart showing 5- and 10-year recurrence risks for surgery only, surgery plus radiation, surgery plus tamoxifen only, and surgery plus both. She then explained the radiation process there. They do a lot to ensure that you are in exactly the same position each time you have a treatment, that they can target exactly the same spot (I get three tattoos!), and they use a special breathing device that better protects your heart and lungs from getting radiation since this is the left side.
Hubby and I were both impressed with the quality and quantity of info we got, and when I asked the big questions about staffing, wait time for appointments, and getting answers to questions or concerns in a timely fashion, she said they are fully staffed, you get both a nurse navigator you can call and a way to email questions, and there is minimal wait time for appointments. In fact, she said there are two set-up appointments and they can get one of those done for me this coming Friday. So, I'm not sure if I'll end up paying more--that's an insurance question--but we feel it's in my best interest to go with this group. The negatives are that parking there is terrible, and I am not looking forward to driving down I-270 (which is a rolling parking lot most days and full of crazy drivers). There's also the possibility of driving further in icy weather, but hubby said he would take off work and drive me down if the weather is bad. It’s all a bit scary, but I just have to take it a step at a time.
Well, I have spent much of the morning ordering copies of medical records for the new facility and paying all the bill due by the first of the year. (That was not fun!! ) So it’s time for me to get up from this desk and see if I have any circulation left in my legs!
Thinking of everyone, and hoping that you can all check in again soon.

Great news Sarah!!! I'm glad you met with them and had such a positive experience. That is half of the battle, the calm that comes with knowing you're in good hands. I know it will be helpful to you! Hugs!!! At Starbucks their Mint Majesty tea is the bomb. That's my fave when I don't want to go with coffee or the other sugars.
Sheesh - I am always amazed at what you get done and plans for the family and the holidays. I'm sure the family can't wait for the trip to Mexico. With our daughter now stateside, we're loving more family trips.
Well, I did my bloodwork and it did not improve. I was supposed to meet with my doc last Thursday morning to review the results, but work called and I got stuck in meetings all morning and had to cancel last minute. (It was about year end stuff, and my end of things, so I couldn't ski)p. I did state I had a doc appt but they felt the meeting was priority. I got a call from docs office later in the afternoon and they were not happy, nor was he with the results. So I'm rescheduled for end of January. I may ask for another round of labs to be ordered to update just before that appointment to see if we can monitor more closely. Glucose jumped again to 125 and a1c higher as well. So I am a bit nervous. I have been watching my sugar intake and so the jump does scare me. It's amazing how much my body has changed in the metabolism area since quitting that other plan. So I'm nervous. Diabetes does run in my family, so I've always been on the watch for it and want to avoid tipping the scale that direction.
Between my lack of acl, my back still tweaking and a migraine that reared it's ugly head late last week, decorating has been a challenge. We did get the tree up and I decorated it on Saturday (hubby had to finish the top section and add our angel when he got home). We got three of the five villages set up yesterday and general area decorations are up. Just need hubby to clear the dining table and another area of his "gear" to finish. These decorations may not come down until JUNE! lol. Thank goodness we always celebrate three kings day so at least we have an extra week. And I told hubby we are going to start decorating in October next year since we plan to be gone for Thanksgiving and again the week after for the candlelight processional.
We just booked Disneyland Hotel for the family for next Thanksgiving. We had so much fun last year, hubby wants to do that with the kids again next year. I did plant the seeds and both families affirmed they'd love to go again. And through Costco I was able to get a 3 room suite and their tickets for under our annual vacation budget (not $21k like last year at the Grand Californian) and a three room suite. So we'll present it at Christmas. We can cancel if they decide that's not what they want to do but I'm locking in my price now....lol.
The chef is here today and yay I just feel better when we have her food. I wish I could afford $800/mo for her to come every week, but that's just not feasible. Oh and on Saturday, I did start my sauce for lasagna. I had a bit of energy so I fried up the Italian sausages and got the sauce going. I let it simmer for a few hours and then cooled it and froze it. I will move them to the refrigerator on the 23rd and then to the pressure cooker Christmas eve morning while we process the beef stew. Then we just have to cook the noodles, mix the cheeses and assemble. That saved at least an hour of cooking on Christmas eve. Not much more I can prep. My daughter and neighbor will be here in the morning to assist so it's not a solo activity.
Oh and my daughter in law graduates from ASU this week with her engineering degree so I'll be heading to that as well. She already has a job lined up to start after the holidays. YAY!!!
Kelly - please remember to care for yourself as well as Ella!!! You're just as important.
Hugs to all!!0
