It looks like we've gone quiet again. 😞
I found the "Walk, Run, Lift" set on eBay. It was Leslie's last DVD kit. It came with 3 bands, a DVD, and a gym bag. I think it was only available from QVC. I'll be reviewing it and maybe that will motivate me to move again. This cold snap is not making me move much at all.

Oh gosh, I was hoping some of the new people would hang around. I have a problem and I cannot work out. Whenever I try, my thighs burn so bad and I cannot breath. I am not "out of breath" per se, but I can't breath. I first noticed it when I went upstairs at my usual breakneck speed and I almost collapsed! I thought I was having a painless heart attack, but after I laid on the floor for a few minutes, it went away. It happened again when I was bringing in groceries and I ended up doing it one bag at a time between rest periods. It is so strange because I have no pain at all, am not really breathing hard at all, but my legs will not continue to function if I do not sit down. I get some miles on days when I can walk slowly around my house getting stuff done! I am not going to decorate much because it took almost all I had to get my fall decor down today. I have all kinds of MD appointments scheduled to try to find out the problem.
As if that is not bad enough, our kitchen sink (disposal & dishwasher included) is clogged and we cannot find where it is. Dennis has snaked it all the way to the copper pipe that meets the drain and we know that is working because all the rest of the house is draining just fine. December at the Zicha's is not very Christmasy this year so far! :ohwell:
December Goal: Walk at least 1 mile/day!

    Dec 2-Garmin Miles .7
    Dec 3-Garmin Miles 1.0

    Dec 5-Garmin Miles 1.5

I had to change the battery in my Garmin today and when I synced it, Garmin Connect said I had 2.2 miles so far today! Woo Hoo!!! Taking down fall decor took all day, but added up even going S-L-O-W!
Big snowstorm coming tonight and tomorrow to add to the 8 inches we already have. The lake has frozen over finally and everything is white ... for now!

Glad to see this group is still active. Goals I set at the beginning of the month were to hit all the Garmin monthly challenge goals using Walk at Home. So 20 activites over 20 minutes, 15 hours and 30 miles. And then hitting the 90 mile quarterly challenge.

Got into a minor car accident a week ago, with air bags going off. Needless to say, didn't work out all week. Did the 10 minute easy Walk from the mix and match series today. We'll see if i hit my goals.

Welcome, @megd44. I'm glad you found the group. I'm sorry about the accident. Hopefully, you'll have an easy recovery from any injuries. Taking it easy is the right thing to do.

Thanks @Deeder522 ! Still a bit suore but managed to to the mix masters 30 minute B session. Feeling ok today, so will probably try that again today.

That us one of the things I love about the this program. You can have much easier, more gentle videos and much higher intensity with bands, dumbbells added in. Where ever I am there is something for me. Bummed because I can up with a great schedule for myself for December and only had a chance to hit a couple. Figure I'll do that in January and see where I am.

In January 2024, we did Jessica Smith's Walk N Talk series as a January Jumpstart. 15-minute videos that were easy to do and just enough motivation to get us going in the new year.
I'm thinking I'll be doing that again.

I hope to see you still here in January. 😀

Thanks @Deeder522 . I am not familiar with Jessica Smith. I'll have to look her up.

Today I did the mix and match workout b from the Walk at Home site. Added the flexibility walk too and feeling pretty good.

My hope in January is that I'll be able to get back to the Walk at Home mix I had planned, which was a combo of higher intensity, strength training and some active rest days.

Apple Challenge: Reach my daily move goal 21x. 10 / 21

Rough couple of days and I need some good deep sleep for recovery.

You can find a TON of free video's on YouTube for Jessica Smith. She has 100's on her channel. I don't have the Walk At Home App. I have a decent collection of DVDs and also use the YouTube channel. My latest DVD from WAT is the Walk Run Lift program. I think it was the last DVD release back in 2021. After that, they focused on the APP more.

Well, at least I am getting over mile a day! Considering what is wrong with me, it is amazing really. I have been diagnosed with systemic anemia and had a 2 unit blood transfusion while they figure out where or why I am losing or not making blood. I have only been anemic once before in my life, during my pregnancy, and I could not get out of bed, so this did not seem like that at all. I was sure it was mitochondrial disease since it runs in my family or a heart arrhythmia, but nope, heart and lungs are fine, they just need more blood carrying oxygen! It does explain why I could not exercise though. My muscles were not getting enough oxygen, which is kind of important when working out with Leslie!! Once we discover the cause of my super low hemoglobin count and fix it, I will be back to my workouts! Meanwhile, I am still focusing on getting in at least 1 mile a day to keep the blood I do have circulating.
Oh my gosh @megd44 I am so sorry about your accident. Minor or not they are very stressful! There is all the insurance rigamarole and then recovering physically and emotionally from it. I am glad you were OK though. Whenever we would stress about a fender bender, my father would say, "A car is tin and can be fixed, so it is more important that you are OK!" I think about this every time I have a minor acciednt and it does help put it in perspective I guess.
@Deeder522 I am hoping to start with Jessica's Walk & Talk in January. I am so tired of being tired that Jessica sounds like a breath of fresh air to me!!! Let's do it!
I'll be back, but meanwhile, walk strong for me you two OK????

@Deeder522 I had been using the YouTube until about a year ago then subscribed to the app. Was blown away by the amount of content and varying exercises. It has the traditional walking, The WRL series, yoga, flexibility, weights. I think it is $70 annually. I will definitely check out Jessica.

@zichab thanks for you kind words. I said the same thing about the car versus us. Feeling much better this week. I cannot imagine what YOU are going through. That is really difficult and the unkown must be super challenging. Way to keep moving as you can.

Today I did a LS happy walk. I loved that it had a 5 minute flexibility piece at the end. Felt so good.

My December goals were to achieve my Garmin challenges for the month, so time walked, distance, number of workouts. Don't expect that I'll reach the end number, but definitely still trying!

Oh my gosh!!! I had the transfusions on the 17th and started prescription level iron supplements on the 19th and except for the 21st which was a huge truck day (shopping & Dr appts etc) my miles have done noting but increase and I feel so good! My MD suspects I have been losing or not ingesting enough iron for long time because I was so functional at such a low hemoglobin count (5 and normal is 12+). But now that I am truly my old functional "energizer bunny" self, I realize I have been tired and sluggish for more than a year. It feels good to be normal, but now we need to eliminate the cause or I will be in the same boat again in a few months.
I have also shrunk 2 inches!!!!! That makes my weight "overweight" now and I hate seeing that on a chart!!! :explode: New year, I need to lose weight to make my new height normal!!!!! I will definitely be starting with Jessica and Leslie for sure! 1 mile at a time!
Oh @deeder522, it has been never ending! Yesterday, Dennis went to PT on an empty stomach, and of course, he got dizzy and fainted spraining his right ankle! Now he is elevating and on ice again! It just does not seem to stop for us. Of course, none of this could happen in July when we are not busy with the holidays! Meh, we just have to roll with it ya know. :ohwell: Thanks for the heartfelt empathy-heavens knows we can use it!
Merry Christmas @deeder522 & @megd44 and let's hope the New Year is our best health year yet!

@zichab I'm glad to hear that you're bouncing back. What a way to bounce back with a transfusion! Yikes!!

We had a couple of rough days leading up to Christmas, so it was nice to have a small gathering. A few presents are still on their way, but no one was really concerned about that. Everyone was full from Christmas lunch. I'm ready to be done with the holidays. I'm glad our New Year; 's Eve is even simpler.

Less than a week until we can start January Jumpstart!

    A little year-end review:

Personally: I tracked 880 miles this year and I completed 6 Apple Watch Challenges. I found a new YouTube channel to follow for additional workouts. I also purchased a WAT DVD set that was only available from QVC ( thanks eBay).

This group has shrunk in active users a lot in the last year or so. I'm grateful for those who still stop in to chat and offer encouraging words. I hope, if you're reading this, that 2025 brings you better health and better living.

I did it! except for 2 days, I was over 1 mile every day! Not a big goal for me but considering my month, I'll take it!!!!
OK, I need to get serious about this weight in the new year because I cannot be overweight! It makes me crazy to see that on my MD's record. To go from being 5'3" which was my last medical height check in 2017 to 5'1" has made a 20 pound difference in the line from normal to overweight! I have to lose 15 pounds to get back to normal which is where I thought I was! So, back to tracking and working out regularly for me come Jan 2! Sweet Baby Jesus getting old is rough!!! You expect some medical issues, but shrinking?????? Pahleeze!!!! :noway:
My goal for January it to do Jessica's Walk and Talk and post here every other day as this will hold me accountable. I have mapped out January and there is one time when I will post two days in a row and then not post for two days because Dennis is having a root canal 2 hours away and we are staying overnight to be sure he is OK when it is done. Otherwise, I'll be here! I know Jessica's plan says you should do the walk every day, but I am not sure I can. But, if I can do a few days in a row, you can be sure I will!!!
I am wishing anyone who reads and/or posts on this board a very Happy New Year! :drinker:

@Deeder522 The transfusion was NOT FUN! :noway: But, it was so much better than the alternative because I was at a point where I had so little energy that I could only do basic tasks. The only thing scaring me now is what caused it. The iron supplements seem to be working so it might just be that I was simply not getting or metabolizing enough of it. I have to take an acid blocker and that could be interfering with absorption. However, there are a lot of bad things that suck your iron as well so it will be a scary month until they figure this all out.
On a positive note, I did not end the year as badly as I thought! My early months were high mileage and that helped cover the end of the year fall off. In analyzing my data, I found that I stopped working out all together on Sept 8, but that was largely because it was tiring me out and I made a lot of excuses for that (not sleeping well, doing too much, taking care of Dennis etc) when it fact there was an unrecognized physical problem. I had NO 3 mile days after Oct 13th which should have been a huge red flag for me as 3 miles is kind of my normal. In any event, I ended the year with a total of 810 miles logged on my Garmin. Considering the year I have had, I will take it!!!
2025 has got to be better and I have goals for January!!!!
