Okay @$$ movers, here's the new thread for the JANUARY 2025 Move Your @$$ Challenge!
PLEASE READ the directions below.
We welcome all newbies and welcome back to the oldies!
"Rules of the Challenge"
1. Set your goal and post it to the thread....distance ONLY (Miles or KMs) - NO minutes, NO # of workouts, NO # of calories, NO # of steps - DISTANCE ONLY.
2. Make your ticker if you want to use one (see directions below or in the FAQ thread) or add your goal to the thread.
3. Get moving your @$$ starting on the first day of the month.
4. Post as often as you can to the thread so we can keep the sheet (see link below) up to date. You are welcome to report what you are moving each time BUT please make sure you post the TOTAL miles (or kms) moved each time you update.
Please don't post any previous month's miles here. We will continue updating the previous month's spreadsheet using the old thread for approximately the first 5 or so days of the new and current month. Please add only your current month's goals/miles to this thread. Got it?
The purpose is to set a distance goal (KM or Miles) and track your distance for the month - please only do one or the other...if you are doing KM just report in KM - we have a formula in the spreadsheet that will convert it to miles for us.
You are challenging yourself, not competing against anyone else.....the distance can be on a treadmill, stairmaster, elliptical, bike, roller blades, walking, running, biking, hiking, swimming (if you can measure).....just set a distance goal and do the work.
Report to the thread often to keep us updated because we track our info on a spreadsheet (see link below) so you can see how you are doing compared to the group but not to openly compete with them. Whatever goes on inside your own brain is your own business.
The idea is to set your goal and reach it before the end of the month.
Welcome to all - new and old.....have a great month challenging yourself!
Link to the Google spreadsheet where you can view (but not edit). The Challenge Admins will update it for you at mostly random times.....but typically a day or so. Don't hold us too tightly to that though.

Directions for making a ticker:
Go to either www.tickerfactory.com and create a Fitness ticker. Then copy the "BB code" and paste it into your posts on this thread each time you do an update. (More detailed info is located in the FAQ thread on the MYAC Group page.)
Welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay and that you find this helpful in realizing your fitness goals!

HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT HERE WE ARE IN 2025!!
I am in for a solid 100 miles for January!
I waited until the last two days, but I finally made my December GOAL!
Thanks, Char! You are definitely right about this group having shrunk a ton. We have all aged a few years and along with that came numerous health issues between us, but we are committed to sticking it out for the long run. I absolutely know for me, to not exercise would seriously degrade my quality of life going forward. I've already had a taste of what that would be like a couple of times. EVERYTHING gets more difficult when I lose flexibility and add weight. Simple things like getting in or out of bed, putting clothes and shoes on, walking to get the mail or going to the grocery store, climbing stairs...they are all directly impacted on a daily basis. I NEED to keep moving or else I am just giving up on life. All of that is not so obvious when we're younger and think we'll live forever and nothing will change. It becomes instantly and painfully obvious once we advance in years. So in this new year, I'm going to choose to keep moving and fight to get stronger and more fit. Like my favorite quote from the movie "Shawshank Redemption", we need to either "Get busy living or get busy dying." It's that simple.
Wishing you all the best in 2025!
Dave

I'm in for 50 miles this month. My puppy had her spay surgery yesterday so we are functioning as a dog hospital right now. Plus my husband is sick. Not the best night's sleep last night but every day should get better. Just a quick 1 mile walk with the male this morning to start off the new year.

Please put me in for 100. Thanks. I knew my December was going to be too crazy but I am proud of the miles I accomplished at Universal 30mi in 3 days. All on foot no riding. However , I am back and ready to really be consistent. I think a mammoth March is in my future. 20 miles in 8 hrs. But first I would like to do a section hike on the Appalachian trail. I know big goals for someone who also broke her foot on said trip to Florida last month.... if it ain't one thing it's another. Lol. Happy 2025 everyone1

@Janet:Your pups are really growing fast and so cute. I used a body suit for Brinkley for neutering and he never needed a collar. Where were those years ago, Wishing both your pup and husband are back to feeling good soon.
@Dave:Well said. And one of my favorite quotes.I would tell my dad, who was a a heavy equipment mechanic, that if did not keep moving, he would rust, like all vehicles that just sit.
Adding 60 for the month and it will be a will a wait and see after the 13th. I will add if I. Get moving the end of the month.I am on a 185 day streak of hitting my walking goal.

It took sheer grit and determination to get a workout in today. I worked until about 3:00am last "night" and got to sleep about 3:30am. Had to set three alarms so I could make sure to wake up by 7:30am and get right back at it.
I rode 10.25 miles.

I just passed my 13 year anniversary on MFP and in the MYAC. Who would have guessed? I wish I could have kept my weight at my goal weight all these years, but I've never gone back to my starting weight so that's not bad, is it? Plus, I've walked or run almost every day over those 13 years. We never know what's coming, do we, but here's hoping for13 more!
@darkrider42 - yikes, I'm not sure whether the work out or the hour of sleep would be healthier but good for you! Get some rest tonight.
@clepant - when is your surgery? Surgery suits are not easy to find - I've ordered one on Amazon and expect it tomorrow.1 -

@JANET - You have done so well over these 13 years! And yes to your question that you're somewhere in the middle of starting weight and goal weight. I guarantee you that a much larger percentage of your pounds is muscle now so that number on the scale is not the whole story. :flowerforyou: And also yes, sleep probably would've been the better choice. But I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. No excuses. I did go to sleep at 8:30pm last night and slept for 12. hours...
Rode 8.17 miles tonight for MTD: 27.83 / 100

@Janet: Congratulations on 13 years! I am so grateful for finding this site and you were inspirational in helping me start my running journey at age 59. Never really ran before that and you gave me so many tips. I ran several sprint triathalons, 5K, 10K, 10 milers and Half Marathons. I even got my nephew back running after years and he is now doing ultramarathons, and 50 milers.I really miss running, but my left knee will not sustain it. Every time I see someone run, I am so envious.
I put some pics of my recovery suit and a Zen Collar I really love. Never really got to use the collar even though I had the comfy cone, but have it if I ever need it. Bought the collar for my SIL’s dog who had hot spots that turned into lick granulomas and it really helped. I saw them a specialty pet store, but ordered my second suit on Amazon so I could wash the other in case I needed it. The suit was awesome.
My surgery is the 13th.
We had snow squalls today and my hubby had to pick up our snow blower that was being worked on. It was my dad’s Troy Bilt, which is no longe in business. Over 30 years old. A local machine shop gave it a work over and it was amazing what the guy did for so little cost. The labor was the biggest cost, but so worth it.
