I can't believe that I didn't even jot down on my calendar what I weighed on December 18, but that was the day after we learned that my step-niece died, and it was also the day we took Teddy to the specialty vets. Then that Thursday, my class was observed again, and I did some more volunteer work that night, and that Friday, I had the very long set-up day for my radiation treatment. So that week before Christmas, I just put a lot of things on hold. Also, during the week we were gone, I did not log food. I think that was the first time I had not logged food for an entire week since I started logging food back in 2010! But It's almost impossible to accurately log when you are eating out a lot and also eating food others have cooked. But I promised myself that starting today (Jan 1), I will try to be consistent and more accurate in logging what I eat. I did, however, get my 7-day average for steps for the week of Dec. 18-24, which I would have logged on Wednesday the 25th, had I been here. That figure is pretty bad since it includes the day we were in the car for 10 hours and two days at my sister's home when the weather was not conducive for walking outside and we were also really busy. I did at least have two days in NC when I could put on a couple of layers and some gloves and get in a decent outside walk. And coming back, we decided to break the trip in half, so I had a hotel treadmill to use on Thursday, the 26th.
Here are my 7-day step averages. No kcal averages to report this time.
Dec. 18-24 = 7,112
Dec. 25-31 = 10,525
Last night (New Year's Eve), we had a potluck dinner at a friend's home. It was 5 couples. The 6th couple had to bow out at the last minute because they learned that they had been exposed to covid a few days before. It was really nice to sit with good friends and enjoy a meal that no one person had slaved over. We took Ellie Krieger's white turkey chili, Italian bread loaves and a homemade banana pudding. Another friend made soup, two contributed salads, and another contributed a second dessert. In the course of the evening I learned that one friend has been diagnosed with a neurological disorder that made me feel ever so lucky to just have stage 0 cancer. So much in life is perspective.
We got home fairly early last night (it was a terribly rainy night, so everyone wanted to be home long before the drunks came out), but we were wide awake and found ourselves staying up until after 1:30 a.m. Needless to say, today we are dragging! I am going to have to really coax myself to get on the treadmill.
Not sure if I mentioned this, but Teddy's last tests came back okay. He's low on B-12, but the pancreas, etc. are okay. So he's going on some gosh awful expensive prescription food that is easy to digest to see if that stops the weight loss. I can't believe what we spend each month on these fur babies.
The long-range forecast for Maryland calls for snow at the first of next week. We sadly had almost no snow last year, but now that I will need to drive to treatment every day, we will probably get hammered! I am reminded to just take it a day at a time and not project myself into a gully somewhere. Hubby and I do pretty well driving in snow, but honestly, we have people from all over the country and all over the world trying to drive here, and some cannot drive well in the best of conditions. I have a simulation appointment on Monday morning, and I expect to find out then when my daily treatments will begin and what times they can fit me in.
I'm not making a bunch of serious resolutions for this year, but I do want to concentrate on eating more healthy foods and fewer that are not so healthy. I also want to maintain my level of activity, even through my treatment if I can. And I want to build up more arm strength. I know the radiation may affect my mobility on the left side and that moving that arm throughout treatment will be important.
I am looking forward to hearing how everyone's holidays went. Sheesh, you should have some fun stuff to share from Mexico, and Lois, you can tell us how things were at Disney. Kelly, I hope that you and your family had a great holiday and I'm also looking forward to hearing what you did. Hope that Ella's recovery is still chugging along.

Well, darn! Just when I'm ready to start the New Year off right, the wheels fall off. I got up on Tuesday, feeling okay, and got out to teach my class. Monday night I did Leslie Sansone's 3 mile walk on YouTube, which includes upper body moves too, and it was obvious that I didn't get as much activity over the holidays, so I was glad to get to class. That went well, ran out with hubby to do a few errands after I got home, and then when we got back, I sat down to read for a little while. While reading, I fell asleep, and when I woke up, I realized I was sick. I sneezed at least 20 times in a matter of minutes and my head and body ached. So I grabbed a thermometer, and yep--had a low grade fever, too. So long story short, I hardly moved from Tuesday afternoon until this morning (Saturday). I am feeling a lot better today, but I'm not sure if I should hit the treadmill yet. But I know I got only about a thousand steps per day for the past two days since walking for me was primarily only from the sofa to a bathroom or from the bed to a bathroom. Hubby has been kind enough to fetch me most of what I needed or wanted from the kitchen.
Things are getting a little complicated here with my appointment for the radiation treatment simulation on Monday, too. Because I didn't want to cancel at the last minute, I called them Friday morning to say that I'd come down with an upper respiratory illness and thought I should reschedule. Surprisingly, they said, no--wait until 8 a.m. on Monday to decide! (The appointment is at 9:45.) However, the weather forecast now shows lots of snow and ice here starting Sunday night and continuing into Monday morning, so I don't know if the roads will be okay, and I certainly don't want to drive far when I'm not feeling well. There are just too many folks in this area who have never driven in snow and so even if you do well, you have to think about them. It can get dangerous on 495, which is my route. But I guess I just have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, the scale edged up to 130.2 today, and I'm just hoping that it will not move up any further by Wednesday.
Sheesh, I hope you and your family had a safe trip back home today. Lois and Kelly, looking forward to hearing from you.0
