Well, I don't yet define my location or give directions based on past surgical procedures, but I have a nice collection of seven “ists” - an internist, an orthopedist, an ophthalmologist, a dermatologist, a urologist, a physical therapist, and, of course, a dentist. I think I’m missing at least three from the set - an audiologist, a cardiologist, and a psychiatrist - and would probably benefit from two of those three. 😉
Other than the urologist, I’m happy to say the collection is more about maintenance than repair so far.1 -
That's a funny comic. Mrs. 0mania and I are sojourners, in the sense that we tend to move every 10 years or so. Thus, there are few places locally that we can point to that have a significant memory for us. Similarly, we have come to recognize that most of the "important" places in our lives have closed up (e.g., the location of our first date, the place we were married, etc.). While I appreciate personal history, I guess we don't spend much time thinking about it.
For the second part of the comic, yes, I have collected my fair share of "-ists" as well. Many of these will change, however, as my COBRA insurance ran out and we just switched insurance companies, so we'll have to find some new "ists" that are in-new-network. Ugh.1 -
I too have a list (probably longer but I'm too lazy to figure it out). I is good to have a relationship BEFORE you need someone.1

I was pleasantly surprised by how often I said “G_d bless Medicare” once I realized that the whole “in network” thing was 98% a thing of the past. You’ve got something to look forward to!

That is funny, sad, and all too true.1

I definitely identify with that comic! More and more, when I see that Progressive Insurance commercial where the guy is trying to stop people from turning into their parents, I think, "Oh my God. I do that." And I frequently see my grandmother's face in the mirror - - not a bad thing. I loved her dearly and cherish the memories of my late mother saying, "Emmie, you remind me so much of Mama."1

We’ve got a rule- my idea- no medical discussions during meals. The diner near where we lived 25 yrs ago was a few blocks from the clinic. If I was having a late breakfast the early clinic patients would be coming in after seeing the Doc. I’d be reading the paper but I couldn’t help but hear. It got to be one of those “If I ever… just shoot me” things.

As if its not enough to have a long roster of "its" I have the added problem of having them retire or move out of the area or just plain old leave their practice! I am off on Thursday for my first appointment with a new GP, he will be my 4th new GP in 11 years! As for my Urologist, I am now on my 5th!
This getting old stuff is for the birds sometimes!0
