@AprilRaineyBattle That's some great exercise wow! I love split peas what are you making with them? Can you have a sprinkle of cinnamon in your coffee? I'm doing that since I'm cutting back on sugar right now.

@DrewsAnna You've been getting some great exercise too! Oh no can you wrap tape or something on your finger? I have a callus on my finger from my phone, I used to get them from writing in college.

@TeresaW2024 The vet thinks Asher's overgrooming from stress so we're trying neurontin in the hope it will break the stress cycle and I can take him off it fast. Basically both cats are on it since I'm sprinkling it on food. Jasper always tries to dominate Asher (who doesn't challenge him at all) especially after they go for nail trims so if Jasper's too tired to do that it will help Asher too. As soon as we got back from the vet their claws were sticking in the carpet so we went for nail trims Saturday with the rescue group at Petco and Asher's mad at me and carrying on quite a bit. He was quieter last night but woke me up an hour before my alarm. Reward is either going to be a tea or seeds. You're doing awesome with no sugar and no snacks!

@trooworld Asher's mad at being put in a carrier and taken to the vet and for nail trims. It's either a tea or seeds, I'm tied right now! Oh my gosh that butternut squash soup sound amazing, I love black bean too enjoy both of them!

@morenin I hope the break from counting calories helps. Sometimes eating a little more seems to HELP loss which doesn't make a lot of sense but it has to do with hormones being restored.

Hi team! I saw my insurance dentist, this is going to be dragged out for awhile which sucks I'd at least like to have the flapper since it's a front tooth. Work went well but my pain's been bad today, going to head back and lay down. I have mushroom class tomorrow night so I'll probably just log weigh ins, have a great Tuesday!

@trooworld I hope the surgeon tells you that you can work from home. Those soups sound yummy. It’s great that you are finding tasty things to eat.

@Katmary71 Well, Jasper needs to be nicer! Animals are so awesome and such a pain in the a** simultaneously! :D Sorry about the pain you are in. <3

Good morning! I’m thrilled that I lost 4.2 lbs this week. It just goes to show that I can lose weight after all. :D Today, I have to take Maggie for her annual physical and to have a lump that just recently showed up on her abdomen near her umbilical hernia that she has had since birth. I’m a little stressed about this lump and what it might mean. I can’t deal with another surgery! I just gave my nephew a considerable amount of money to help relieve my sister of her stress and help get him back on his feet. I also want to see about my wrist, which isn’t getting better. I started this year determined to save money, and I’ve done nothing but bleed it. But it’s OK, it will all work. At least, that is my prayer! :)

@jellytree Sorry you were sick. I hope you are feeling better now. I hope the subscription service helps you stay on track. Are you reading anything interesting? Oh thank you, that hawk experience was so cool. I know what you mean, I used to hate stand-up comedians and sometimes I force myself to laugh even though I don't find it funny. Luckily, I didn't fake laugh too much at the show lol.

@Jactop @AnAbsoluteDiva Congrats on the losses!

@Katmary71 Ah I see. The butternut squash soup was super good. I'll post the recipe below. I added a can of chicken breast to it for added protein. Thank you! Sorry about the news from the dentist. How long will it drag out? Hugs about the pain.

@DrewsAnna Congrats on getting the Xmas put away and the badges!

@TeresaW2024 Nice loss! He did tell me that, I am so happy! But I can't just lazily do it, they are going to expect some results so I have to actually work lol. The soups were both easy to make and delicious. Yes, you can lose weight! You've proven it in the past. Thinking good thoughts about Maggie, I hope the lump is just something normal. Hugs.

Hi all. Last night's soup was really good. The doctor's visit went well. The surgeon wants me to work from home this week and next. He said that how I am feeling is totally normal. He also said (about my gain) that this is a marathon, not a sprint, and to talk to him in 6 months and tell him if I'm still unhappy about my weight journey. He said to trust the process. So, I will. He said I'm doing great. Since I cannot walk for exercise because of my knee, I have to come up with stationary stuff. I ordered the below pilates bar kit and found a lot of videos on YouTube with routines using it. It doesn't take up a lot of room so I think this will work out well. I also ordered some lighter dumbbells to supplement the bar.

    Here's the soup recipe:

    Squash/Pear/Red Lentil Soup (6 servings)
2 tsp olive oil or butter
    1 cup chopped onions
    1 tsp minced garlic
    1 tbsp grated ginger root
    1 tsp curry powder
    1⁄2 tsp cumin
4 cups chicken or veggie broth
3 cups peeled, cubed butternut squash (tip: buy a bag of pre-cut squash!)
2 peeled and chopped pears- I dice it.
    1⁄2 cup red lentils

Basically fry the onion/garlic/spices. Then add everything else, bring to a boil. Simmer 10 to 15 mins or until squash and pears are soft. Puree until smooth.

I have a very hard time staying motivated to exercise when the weather is outside is cold and we're in the darkness of the winter. My strategy is to make an appointment with myself. I have my morning workout schedule. I have my walk on my lunch hour. And then I have my yoga scheduled for evening after work. On a bad day, I might cancel one of those appointments with myself, but not all three. That way I always get some exercise. I also plan for 7 days, with no scheduled rest day. If I plan for 7, and I only make 5, I still don't feel too bad about myself!

@jellytree – Are you a fan of vanilla? Or possibly bergamot? I could give a lot of recommendations for black tea just based on those two.

@trooworld – How long have you been at your job? Be confident about working from home. Glad your boss is letting you. Love the birdies! That soup recipe sounds scrumdiddlyumptious!

@txcritter69 – So good to hear from you!

@AprilRaineyBattle – It is so much easier on a laptop. Open a Word document and type your responses and then just cut and paste. No worries about losing anything you’ve written!

@Katmary71 – Another vote for you to be the volunteer winner!

@19shmoo69 – I know what you mean. I’m behind 7 pages worth. Barely hanging on. @laurelfit57’s granddaughter told her that her house wasn’t “sanitized” i.e. not clean (because of the holiday decorations). Kids have no filter! The amino discussion is between @katmary71 and @teresaW2024. Hope everyone in your house is doing good. Thought about you all as I used the towel your wife made me :)

I'm still working on getting all of Hunter's things out of the house...I keep finding things in cupboards, etc. About to dash so I can go watch Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare hahahahahaha! I love all the Disney movies that are public domain now and are being horrified! It's only showing at theaters for 3 days (today is the second day). So I'll battle snow, ice and negative temps for this :)

@DrewsAnna Great job jumping on the treadmill you did awesome!

@TeresaW2024 He does! I gave the cats treats before bed and that distracted Asher from yowling so he stopped thank goodness. Congrats on the awesome loss! Prayers all is well with Maggie.

@trooworld Thank you for the recipe! The dentist wanting a release for treatment because of my small heart murmur's real annoying my doctor's appointment isn't for a month and they've never seen me before. I have to wear invisilign to keep the crown/tooth in and it's only for a few teeth so it falls out easily, I'd definitely prefer to have things move fast. I called the office and left a message but since my doctor just left the business I'll probably have to wait until I see them so that pushes having removal for about 2 months. Chicken added to the soup sounds good chicken's definitely one that goes well with winter squash. I'm so glad your doctor was supportive and encouraging, awesome news! That pilates bar kit looks awesome I can't wait to hear what you think of it. I've been stepping up use of my resistance bands and the kit looks very flexible to use with different exercises. Weird I did a search on YouTube and you can find shorts using it but no videos, I just discovered as long as you add the pilates bar in the title you'll get a lot of them.

WHAT'S YOUR GO-TO STRATEGY FOR STAYING ACTIVE ON DAYS WHEN MOTIVATION IS LOW? If I have no energy I'll cut cardio and just do weights and stretching. Getting busy in the yard or at the farm is a trade-off I'll do sometimes.

    @micaroo4 I like your strategy!

@vegan4lyfe2012 You'll have to fill us in on the movie I haven't heard of it! Good luck with the weather there I hope it doesn't make it too much of a challenge to get to the movie.

Hi team! I ran to Trader Joe's for salad kits and a few odds and ends, otherwise have been home most of the day. Tonight's mushroom class woohoo! Speaking of I'll share my mushroom and early amaryllis.

Hi all, I got my Trike fixed I did it all by myself and I'm not getting the error anymore. Basically, I swapped out the brain for a new one. The power company keeps shutting off our power for almost 3 day's last time. Due to high winds. There are no fires where I live but it does smell smoky outside. I'm so far behind I need to get Christmas put away but there are just not enough hours in the day. I do like to ride my Trike almost daily; I like the fresh air and exercise. Today it was very windy and very cold, I just could not seem to get warm today. Maybe I can work on Christmas tomorrow, my husband is insisting that I take a nap every afternoon, which for me is about an hour and a half or I just feel crummy. Tomorrow morning, they will come out and fill up our propane tank. Last Friday they fixed our generator, they put in a new engine, so we are all set to go for the next power shut off.

Stay safe and try to stay motivated. I like the idea of scheduling an appointment with myself, I'm going to try that.

ICE BREAKER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: If you had one full year to devote to one particular interest, and become proficient, what would you choose?
My interests are birding, math, music, foreign language, arts and crafts. But to devote a full year, it would probably be birding. Music, language, arts and crafts are skills that are shared; birding and math would be solely for me; math probably wouldn't hold my devoted interest for a full year.

@trooworld I’m glad that the surgeon said you could work from home for the next couple of weeks and that all you are feeling is very normal. So you trust the process, keep living your life, and the weight will come off. I love that Pilates bar kit. :)

@vegan4lyfe2012 I hope you enjoyed your scary movie. Poor Peter Pan! :#

@Katmary71 I love that Amaryllis! The mushroom looks interesting. :D

Good morning! Well, Maggie’s appointment yesterday didn’t give us any answers to the lump on her belly. The vet took an X-ray and did blood work, so we await a hearing. She didn’t like how hard and big the lump was and how it shrunk back down. I’m just praying hard that it isn’t something serious! My pastor is coming over at 9:30 am to work on this year's calendar and a few other things, so I have to wake Joe up and get ready. Have a great day! :)

Question: What’s your go-to strategy for staying active when motivation is low?
It’s super hard to keep motivation going, if not impossible, because motivation ebbs and flows. For me, it has to come down to my commitment to get myself fit. I get up and put my workout clothes on. I will at least go into my workout room and do something. I always end up doing more and feeling great afterward. B)

ICE BREAKER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: If you had one full year to devote to one particular interest and become proficient, what would you choose?
I always wanted to learn to play the piano! :)

It's been a good couple of days - I recently purchased a mat to go under my cruddy treadmill (I got floorboards out in back in September so they still have the new-car vibe and I'm trying not to mess em up). I've finally put the mat under the treadmill, and have used it twice this week.
To be honest, I think the best thing is not having to strap a bra on - the more I think about it the more I think that's an actual blocker hahah!

ICE BREAKER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: If you had one full year to devote to one particular interest and become proficient, what would you choose? For the last few years I've been wanting to learn the double bass. More realistically I'd like to re-learn piano. I played back in school a lot, but that was longer ago than I'd like to admit.

@vegan4lyfe2012 Y'know, I'm not actually sure what bergamot tastes like so would love a rec with that to try! It sounds like a slog clearing out Hunter's bits and bobs. Hopefully it's nice and satisfying as space starts to clear up

@trooworld I have just finished Remarkably Bright Creatures, which was sweet but I kinda wish there was more octopus :P I've started reading the first of the murderbot series as someone recommended it to me, but I think I'll also try to find a copy of that craving cure book @TeresaW2024 mentioned. Love to hear the doctor says you are doing well. Very reassuring, and I really like the marathon metaphor.

@TeresaW2024 What a fantastic loss, well done! I hope Maggie's results come up clear, that sounds stressful.

@Katmary71 Sorry to hear about the tooth pain! Sounds both literal and figurative, with it dragging out and all. Hope it gets sorted soon and you enjoy your mushroom class (for some reason that phrase tickles me). Gorgeous amaryllis by the way.

@DrewsAnna Loving the Garmin badges. An excellent bonus for boosting your steps :)

@vegan4lyfe2012 It will be 12 years in April. Thank you! The soup was good. Sounds like Hunter really had embedded herself in your house. I hope you can get it all out soon. I hope you liked the movie!

@Katmary71 You are welcome. Oh gosh, sorry about the wait. That's annoying. Thank you, yes the chicken was good and I'm glad my doctor is supportive as well! Yes, that kit can be used in many ways and there are a lot of YouTube videos using pilates bars. Yes, gotta search for "pilates bar workout". How was mushroom class? Pretty amaryllis, I've never heard of them but I think I've seen them before. Interesting mushroom!

@FushiaKat I'm glad you fixed your Trike and have been using it. Sounds like it was a good investment.

@TeresaW2024 Thank you, me too! :D Thanks! I'll be thinking good thoughts for Maggie. Good luck with the calendar!

ICE BREAKER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: If you had one full year to devote to one particular interest, and become proficient, what would you choose?
I think probably photography. I do it now but am kind of flying by the seat of my pants.

DISCUSSION QUESTION: What’s your go-to strategy for staying active on days when motivation is low?
Right now, it's the fact that I will lose the most weight in the first year after surgery so the clock is ticking. Also, thinking about my poor mobility, I am motivated to move.

Hi all. My kit arrived but I haven't used it (yet) as I am doing a 7-day pilates weight loss challenge on YouTube to sort of warm up to things: https://youtu.be/86xpLkFp0LM?si=I7uBhn4Jqr7f8Twk
Once I'm done with this challenge, I will move on to a Pilates bar workout on the same channel. It's a good starting point (the video I did yesterday). Yesterday, I took a short nap in the morning and then did the above video on my lunch break. I was exhausted in the afternoon so had to clock out about 45 mins early to rest.

Wait! What did I miss? What is this about the Myfitnesspal app being hacked?! What does that mean exactly? Do I have to delete the app, are they planning to fix the problem? What is the big deal if it gets hacked??? What info could someone get on you that is not already out on the web? Most sites you're on take info, like your number and email address already. Unless you pay for the app then they might get your card number which would be an issue. Luckily, for me, I don't pay for this. I use the free version.

@Katmary71 I did yellow split peas with onion, carrots, and then kale mixed in at the end. I eat them with sliced tomato and sliced radishes on the side. I don’t know why I favor this combo so much but its one of my happy healthy meals. I do use cinnamon in my coffee as well as nut pods creamer. Those have made a big difference.

@vegan4lyfe2012 I am so glad everyone has suggested using Word and just copying and pasting. I cannot tell you how many times I was trying to type on my phone or just in the comment box and lost my notes.

DISCUSSION QUESTION: What’s your go-to strategy for staying active on days when motivation is low?
My strategy is to go ahead and get dressed in workout gear and give it 10 minutes. If after 10 minutes I still don’t want to, I can stop. That way, I’ve gotten in at least 10 but more often than not I continue on because I’ve already done 10 minutes and my workouts are usually only 30 minutes long right now (21 Day Fix) plus I went thru the trouble of changing. Another strategy is if I don’t want to do anything else movement-wise, I dance. I spend hours alone practicing line dances and it gets me out of the mental head space of exercise and into just moving. My final motivation tactic is to bet real $ on myself. I do Waybetter bets for exercising a certain number of days a week and I don’t want to lose money!
Sn: today is one of these days

ICE BREAKER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: If you had one full year to devote to one particular interest, and become proficient, what would you choose?

In this case, a company unconnected to MFP has figured out how to access where people's phones are thru the app. I don't believe they have a way to link phone location to real names. A number of popular apps have been hit. They are then selling that information. It's not technically illegal... yet. MFP has not announced what they're going to do about it- in fact I'm not sure they even acknowledged it, I read about it in Wired. I've chosen to uninstall the app and use the website, for the time being, cause the whole thing makes me nervous.

    Good morning Slimpossibles!
Tough day at work yesterday. I hope by the end of the day today that I'll be finally caught up. Yesterday the computers were vexing me with a Windows 10 Update that was downloading. Windows lets you schedule the installation, but the downloading happens "in the background", and it doesn't even let you know what's going on. But it sucks up all the resources and cripples the computer's speed, which leaves you wondering what's wrong - but if you reboot, the download will find you again and start over! Anyway, I got the update installed on all the computers except the one that I use - it was still in process when I left last night. I hope it's OK this morning.

I haven't been getting my normal amount of exercise. I've been working through my lunches every day, and not getting my 1 hour walk. Hope that after today, I can stop doing that and get back to walking (weather permitting).

Brutally cold these past few days, but I think today the temps will be just around the freezing mark, and less windy. Winter is tough, but winter will not limit me.

@jellytree Thank you! :) I hope you enjoy your treadmill. I am always happiest when I don’t have to wear a bra, too. I jump on a mini trampoline at home, and I have to all but strap my girls down, or they will beat me to death. :D

@trooworld I should have chosen photography too! In our early years, Joe and I always went to the botanical gardens, and I loved doing macro photography. Joe even offered me a better cameral, but life got in the way. :) Have fun with your Pilates. It definitely is a good way to work out and will help tighten up your rapidly decreasing body. :)

@micaroo4 Ugh, I hate Windows updates too! I hope your day is better at work and you get your walk-in. :)

Good morning! I worked at home yesterday with the Pastor for almost four hours! It was the longest time we have spent doing any work, and I am pleased with how well it went. We have most of the year planned out. The first event is our annual chili cook-off next month. My sister is on our event committee, so I already have her on the decor and prizes. I did express my frustrations over potlucks, but the pastor would not budge on his love for them. He told me to stop sitting with my family and mingle. Fine! :D I will still be on my 40-day sugar fast at the next potluck, so it will be a good test of my willpower. o:)

@TeresaW2024 Oh cool! I didn't know you liked photography. Macro photography is really cool. I do like the Pilates! Wow, 4 hours! That's good it went well. That's good your sister can handle the decorating and prizes for the cookoff. Oh gosh, too bad about the potlucks. :( Keep strong!

HI all. I worked out on lunch yesterday for day 2 of my pilates challenge. It was only 14 minutes but that's a good length for me right now while I am recovering from surgery still. I was able to work all day for the first time in a long time. Dinner last night was some of the black bean soup I made last week and froze. It's so good and easy!

What’s your go-to strategy for staying active on days when motivation is low?

I watched a most interesting video from a bodybuilder/trainer I follow on YouTube. He's an exercise physiologist with a Doctorate so he isn't gimmicky and just pulling stuff out of thin air. He said that we focus to much on "exercising" when we should focus on our daily lives and moving. He said if you don't move, you get old. If you move, you stay young. So I decided to follow the principle and what I do is I make sure that every hour I am moving with purpose. Sometimes all I can do is stand, take the garbage out, walk a flight of stairs, etc. and other hours I can clean the bathrooms, vacuum, wash floors, organize a closet. Game changer! I work from home (real estate agent) but have found that I can take a phone call while standing and moving around (unloading the dishwasher, making coffee, wiping down the fridge). The circles on my Apple Watch are happy and I feel so much better to have blood flow throughout my body. I have less aches and pains and my lower back is happy that I'm not sitting so much. I also applied the principle of never walking out of a room empty handed so when I leave my office, I take up my empty water bottles to the recycling bins in my garage. When I walk out of my kitchen, I take the dirty dish towels to the laundry room. This has me walking more, doing more stairs, carrying more things, bending more (using proper form, of course), and it all adds up. I still do my 45 minutes of weight training and 30 minutes on my stepper but all the movement prior to my working out serves as the warm-up and the more energy I have, the more motivated I feel. You may be able to apply some of these components to your daily life and you may see the benefits I see.

@AnAbsoluteDiva that bodybuilder/trainer is exactly right. I've seen it in myself: my body has just given up because of my lack of movement. I like your attitude! <3

@jellytree – Bergamot is orang-y. A lovely creamy one to try is Ohio Tea Company’s Cream Earl Grey. Also Truly Teas Crème de Earl Grey. Another good one, but a little more expensive, is Birdsong Tea’s Blackcap Creamy Grey. I would suggest trying out Ohio Tea Company first and get the small size bags of ones that look good to you. They are usually around $4 to $6 for a 1 ounce package. And they are my #1 favorite family owned small business.

@AnAbsoluteDiva – Love your strategy! Thank you for elaborating!

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare was your typical gory slasher. But I have to say the Tinkerbell side story was so sad. I enjoyed it, though. And don’t feel bad for Peter Pan, @teresaw2024 cuz he’s the bad guy! When we sat down to the previews, I had commented to Hunter that I wished they’d release the Bambi horror one I heard about awhile back. And then one of the previews was Bambi: The Reckoning! Hahahaha! Can’t wait!

ICE BREAKER QUESTION OF THE WEEK: If you had one full year to devote to one particular interest, and become proficient, what would you choose? I would choose learning to speak French fluently. I barely remember anything from High School classes. Although I frequently say, “Je ne sais pas.” Hahahaha

DISCUSSION QUESTION: What’s your go-to strategy for staying active on days when motivation is low? I have to ruminate on this one. I usually give in to my inner sloth.

Thank you for the Birthday Bunny, @trooworld 😊
A Happy Birthday to me 😊 51 rotations and still no gray hair! Planning on going out to dinner for a black bean burrito and margarita with my daughters, grands and mother 😊
