Hey everyone! I saved this in my draft yesterday and then had to get out it and ran out of time. So here is LTL Thursday.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Today's Topic: Quitter's Day

Historically, by the second Friday in January most people have already thrown in the towel in their New Year's resolutions. Did your resolutions or intentions or plans make it past Quitters Day?

Yes. 1 of my intentions is to do 150lbs on the chest press at Crunch Gym by 5/1, my birthday. I don’t really know when I started this. At first I was just trying to get stronger. Not really sure of the exact date I set the goals but at some point it seemed doable if I stay focused and don’t hurt myself.

But about a year ago I was struggling to do 80 lbs. Last Saturday I did 135 lbs for 3 reps. Today I did 10 real pushups with good form. So I’m pretty pleased.

For any other gym rats here I’m doing the chest machine & pushups with my fists parallel to my body. These are not bench presses as I don’t think my shoulders would hold up. Likewise I do the pushups gripping 20lb dumbbells parallel to my body.

I also have a very modest weight loss goal to lose 4 lbs by my birthday too. But this morning I missed my WI. Maybe because I’m not expecting good news.

I’m still with it for resolutions. I try to make resolutions that are sustainable for an entire year and also flexible rather than rigid. One brand new resolution I’ve never tried before is Pilates class, which I started at a studio very close to me. Another is to cycle 3000 miles, combining outdoor and indoor cycling with a stationary bike. I have a heavy mountain bike which I feel safer on to prevent falls. Often I start a new resolution later in the year, which makes it not exactly a New Years’s resolution . My motto is from one of my heroes, the late great tennis player, Arthur Ashe: “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can”

I didn't state any resolutions. I did set some specific goals, and I remain on target for those.

I'm still sticking with my resolution to the best of my ability! I made a resolution to "recommit" to my eating plan and thereby take off a few pounds. This has become a little more urgent as I would really like to be about 5 pounds lighter to fit more easily into my old suit I'll wear for my daughter's wedding. Thus, I'm avoiding alcohol (or at least significantly restricting it) and evening snacking. It's going well, generally speaking. Of course, there's always some event or activity that creates a challenge, but I'm doing my best.

I joined WW online for atleast 10 months which I lost my largest amount of eight years ago. I think doing pts. instead of calorie counting which didn't work well for the last 2 yrs. so that is sorta like keeping a New Year's resolution.
So far I have been doing ok losing 5lbs. I hope It is getting me back on track and back to eating healthier

Along these lines, I did subscribe to MFP Premium. I am less interested in the calorie count and more interested in the structured logging and nutritional info. Also, the barcode scanner is a big deal for me. As a result, I have not missed a day of logging since subscribing. And, I've seen an overall nine pound drop at the scale.

Also, it is important to note that I am focused less on weight loss and more on consuming heart healthy food. The side effect of that is weight loss. Works for me. Maybe not for others.

@misterhub, Logging is most important in my opion for weight loss. That is one thing I always do. I just couldn't connect with my magic number in eating calories no matter how hard I tried and researched.
I am doing much better now which gives me a much better positive outlook.
One thing I'm not is a quieter, I've been at this since 2005 when I lost 110 lbs. and atleast keeping 50 lbs. off.
    Keep up your nice work.
