Between type 2 and regular diabetes?
I tested with an a1C of 10 in October 2024. Since then I've lost over 30 pounds, on a low carb, low calorie, low salt diet. I am not on any diabetes medication, the PA said she would see how I did just dieting. I have an appt in a month to get tested again. I'm obviously trying to reverse my a1c, and I plan to take a home a1c test soon, just to see where I'm at.
I range in daily carbs from under 50 to 100 if I have a day with more carbs.
I am trying to figure out if I have any wiggle room in my diet. For example, I've been having a couple of Russell Stover sugar free chocolates at the end of the day. Some people say they are safe for diabetics, and have no glycemic response, others say the sugar alcohol sweetener malitol is bad for diabetics.
I'd love to find a sugar free grape spread, similar to the welches natural, that tastes good. I tried the Good good brand of sugar free grape jelly, based on online reviews but it tastes like grape water to me. Anyone have a recommendation for a good one? I miss my pbj and I'd like to have one without worrying I am blowing my diet.

Some people do not think artificial sweeteners are good for diabetics. I never found they had any impact on my BG numbers, so I put sweetener in my coffee and drink a diet soda from time to time. Different people probably respond differently.
I can't help you on the grape spread. No experience there...0 -
I haven't seen that non-sugar sweeteners affect my blood sugar. So far the only thing that has caused me to go out of wack is having syrup. which is understandable.
I am pretty sure that if you are able to limit the candy intake to one small serving at a time, even having something with sugar in it isn't going to make an impact. I thought I needed to give up rice as a staple of my diet because of the diabetes. But I have found that eating rice in the same portions I did when I tried losing weight before I had diabetes doesn't send my blood sugar out of bounds.
I also strive to get the daily suggested amount of fiber in a day which slows digestion and the release of sugar in your blood.
Also keep in mind that a1c takes time (three months I think). So if you changed your habits right after october, you will be ok to be checked again in February. But if you are still adjusting they what you eat, then February will be too soon to see if what you are doing is working or not.0 -

This is how it was explained to me as well. It is all dependent on the life span of red blood cells.
BG with the finger sticks are instant/this moment readings. I did find that if I logged BG readings in an app I had, it would estimate the A1C for the previous three months or so and the app number was almost exactly what my blood draw would say with my labs at the doctor's office.
