I'm posting this discussion a bit earlier than usual because @DNjoys shared an excellent post on the VIP Lounge. Thank you, Dee, for sharing that post here.

@Ceriusly1 - I wondered if there would a discussion for this but I needed to say it while the words were flowing if I was going to. This is what I posted:
It was only less than an hour past midnight where I live, and I've had my first encounter with the new HH. I asked myself if I was hungry and found hunger. Looked at my food log and enough time has passed since I last ate that a mini meal or snack is ok now.
But what hit me was that I didn't feel hungry until I went looking for it. There was actually another trigger that had me thinking about eating. I am reminded that words matter, and it's important for me to phrase things in a way that my mind will visualize the positive result I really want, because often we find what we look for. So, for this challenge my question isn't going to be "Am I hungry?" but "Am I still satisfied?" If I look for being content, feeling full and satisfied, I may just find that and delay eating. Sharing here in case that will make a difference for someone else.
I first discovered this when someone prayed over me for pain and then asked if the pain had decreased. I went looking for pain - and found it. I have floaters in both eyes and one day I noticed I didn't see them and got all excited and wanted to be sure they were gone, so I looked for them. And they came back. Then I did a little research and found that if ignored rather than focused on, sometimes the brain can get used to looking past them so you don't see them anymore. I believe that is what happened, but as soon as I looked for them, I could see them, because they were still there and it's taken months for them to fade into the background again. I'm learning I need to focus on and look for what I want to find, not what I expect to find. To look for wellness, health, contentment, and still satisfied from the last meal.4 -
I think that if I ask myself "Am I satisfied?", the answer will always be no. For me, the question has to be "Am I hungry?", and then make that distinction between belly hunger and mouth hunger. Because my mouth is always hungry.4

I don't ask myself if I am hungry I am more likely to ask why am I hungry... Even if I eat a late breakfast when my usual time for eating lunch comes around I think I am hungry. When in reality I do not need to eat a meal so soon. This is when I will usually drink a cup of coffee or just more water. I will also dig out a carrot or something like that. Then I can make it to our dinner hour just fine. The main reason for not wanting to eat a late lunch is because we like to eat dinner early like 5:00 or even a little earlier. We just don't like to eat too close to going to bed time. Anyway I am rambling. 😉5

I started asking this myself recently; I noticed I was snacking when I was bored and I wasn't choosing healthy snacks. So, now if I feel like snacking; it has to be healthy snacks and not just because I'm bored. I've stocked the fridge with apples and oranges and lots of veggies and I make sure to take some with me when I work at the office.4

When I want something I have to think am I hungry? Or am I overwhelmed? I am a stress eater. I learned this from my mom. I know I showed this same habit to my daughter.
Today I swapped lunches with a coworker. Why because they are ordering food and it won't be here till my lunch is over. I don't need it so swap with someone who will enjoy it. Plus the flu is running around. I need to stay healthy.2 -
I am finding sticking to whole foods is helping me a lot with this habit. I have cut out fast food and sugar this week and ate real food freely and saw great progress on the scale. I ate alot of ground beef whole grains and other tasty foods. Sometimes I ate more than I needed to and noticed when I did I felt nauseated and unwell....1
