Introduction: I’m Patrice, a 58 year old woman living with my husband just outside Washington, DC. We both grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, where most of our extended family members still live.

We’ve been married for 35 years and we have two adult sons. The older one (age 24) is working full time at a university in Boston while finishing his degree in biochemistry. Our younger son (age 23) is finishing one more class at Clemson University in South Carolina. He works for a solar panel company while studying business and environmental science (resource management), but he’ll be looking for a new job once he graduates in May.

I gradually gained weight while trying to balance work, raising my sons, completing my doctoral dissertation, and volunteering in our very active community. I reached my highest non-pregnancy weight of 168 pounds in December 2019 and sought the advice of a nutritionist who recommended MFP for tracking calories.

I joined MFP in January 2020 but it took me until about March 2020 to build the habit of logging in, etc. The COVID 19 virus was confirmed in our area in mid-March and it motivated me to become as healthy as possible. By May 2021, I had lost about 30 pounds, but weight loss took more time and effort as I got closer to my goal weight. So, I joined the F2F team in June 2021 for support and accountability. I achieved my goal of 125 in September 2021 — and ended up losing 45 pounds.

I was able to maintain my weight at 125-130 for about a year or more, but gradually regained about half the weight — which creeped up once we began socializing more following the vaccinations, etc. Now, I have about 8 pounds to reach a healthy BMI and another 10 pounds to achieve my goal weight. I’m trying to eat “cleaner” by adding more fruit and vegetables to my diet. The warmer seasons are more active for me so I’m glad spring is here! I hope the combination (better eating and more active days) brings success. Best wishes everyone!

I’ve been taking a high dose of progesterone daily since September, Infeel your pain. I was taking a synthetic version until a couple weeks ago when I switched to a micronized progesterone.
I am having less side effects with the new med. Maybe a different version could help

    Daily step goal 10000

    3-30: 15322

I have been pre logging my day each morning and then adjust as needed, I still weigh most things as I assemble my meals or snacks and that seems to be working for me. The center was closed for Seward’s Day, state holiday that commemorates the signing of Alaska Purchase, so no Strong Seniors class. Did a yoga video and about 45 minutes of decluttering.

Thanks for sharing your photos @Pupowl — so calming!

@Krysless2 - Please don’t worry that a particular weigh-in will contribute negatively to the team. It’s much more important to stay in the struggle. Hang in there!

I’ll post my favorite samurai expression again with apologies to those who have seen it many times 😬: “Fall down seven times, get up eight.”

I agree with both those sentiments: nice photos @Pupowl (and I too prefer it to be a little chilly on walks)

“Fall down seven times, get up eight.”
This reminds me of this quote: "If you stumble, make it part of the dance."

    quick intro - hello!

i've struggled with my weight for over 20 years, steadily increasing year over year. last year my weight jumped to its highest ever, ironically due to me training for my first half marathon. although i was doing a ton of running, i was also eating everything under the sun. which goes to show that exercise doesn't always lead to weight loss - not for me anyways!

last year i managed to lose 14lbs due to calorie tracking and the motivation of MFP groups. i'm not super chatty here but i do read most messages and appreciate folks sharing about their fitness/food experiences.

outside of this i'm a full time corporate citizen spending my days immersed on Teams calls, and PowerPoints. there is a public facing aspect to my role where pictures of me can be found frequently online - which I hate but also drives this weight loss motivation.

You certainly deserved the rest after all your recent activity @frankwbrown — great work! 🤩

@nancyinmiami - I’m glad they figured out the cause of your daughter’s pain and I hope she recovers quickly. How did the dog sitting go?

I can only imagine the stress you were experiencing on so many fronts. It’s difficult to see our children (or another loved one) suffer and you could see the problem with the new puppy coming but then had to refrain from crying out “I told you so!!” 🙊😂🙃 I always tell my husband that it doesn’t matter if we’ve been through an experience our sons can learn from, they need to learn themselves— but it’s so hard sometimes! 🤦‍♀️

With I living creature, it’s harder to let the natural consequences play out — I hope your husband had some fun getting to know the new addition to your family. Once your daughter meets more pet owners and gets to know the vet, etc., it will probably become easier to find local caregivers or an exchange.

We lost our Boston Terrier dog a little over two years ago, and I still miss our sweet Petey like crazy, but I like not worrying about his care during trips, etc. We had a great exchange with our friends who had a wonderful easy-going hound. Mitch was so fun and well- trained, which made it so much easier.

Your daughter is fortunate to have you relatively close by — Are you still commuting during her recovery or are things more stable now? I’m sending positive energy your way!

For stressful times, I’m trying to apply this example that I’ve posted in the past. It’s been a few months, so it might be good to consider it again — Best wishes!!

@PatriceFitnessPal thanks so much for your kind words and warm wishes. My daughter is healing very nicely and it’s good to see her eating again and not in pain. We’ve been commuting out there daily, which has been exhausting because what should be a 45-minute trip takes no less than 90 minutes because of I95 traffic. No matter how I time it, it stinks. But today I let my husband go alone and I took a day to refresh and recharge for myself. I took a spinning class and Aqua class this morning, had a healthy lunch and a nap, and just finished a Zumba class. I will sleep well tonight!! But it felt wonderful! I really needed the day today!! As for the dog, yes it’s definitely an “I told you so” moment lol, but I’m holding my tongue. I remember all the foolish, stubborn things I did at 22, so in the file of “stupid decisions,” this isn’t the worst by a long shot. She doesn’t know it, but I had her beat by a mile at 22😂

😂🤣😂🤣 — I agree that the puppy adoption is low on the threshold of young adults pushing for independence! Sometimes I marvel at how I survived! 😱 I’m glad your daughter is on the mend and you were able to spend some refreshing time on your own @nancyinmiami!

I feel your pain on I95 because we often travel that interstate highway north to Boston (8-9 hours) where our older son lives, and to South Carolina (7-8 hours) to visit our younger son at college! I think it took 15 hours to get home after one Thanksgiving holiday — and we never drove that time of year again! Take care!
