Hello,
In 2022 I gained 50lbs due to having surgery. Last year, I lost 51lbs by using an app where you take photos of your food (the app is called food view). While that seemed like it was working for a while, in December I realized that I needed to start more accurately tracking my portion sizes. The photo app was great for seeing what I was eating but not so great for seeing how much I was eating. I got off track around Nov 26th and just got back on track yesterday when I started on this app.
I am in college and will begin my semester next Wednesday so that could be a hurdle in my way. I was hoping to at least maintain my weight loss from last year through out this semester. My goal is to lose one more lb, then maintain my current weight loss and then in the summer lose more, and then September 2025 switch to maintenance during the semester again. I graduate May 2025.
I also have medical issues. I go to the chiropractor two times a week, PT once a week and sometimes to acupuncture. I also have multiple food allergies but that doesn't seem to affect my weight loss at this point.

Welcome Joy! I look forward to this journey with you. I can sympathize with the surgery. I've had too many to count over my life time. Hopefully I won't have to have any more... hopefully WE won't have to have any more.
Thank you for posting and starting a journal. Don't be shy about asking for any support that you need. College is a stressful time. You are awesome for losing 51 pounds but even more so for taking the time to learn what you need to do to remain healthy.1 -
Thanks! Yeah surgeries suck. I had three between 2022 through 2023. Fingers crossed our health improves from here on out!0

Hello, my name is Amy and I am 60 years old. I have set a goal to lose 147 pounds total and then stay at my new weight and maintain it permanently. I believe I can do this with logging every single thing I take in on a daily basis. So far it is going very well since Christmas when I started. I am looking for a place I can talk about my progress, without driving my family crazy talking about it all the time....LOL4

Hi Amy! Feel free to talk about your progress with us! Can't wait to hear about it!0

Welcome Amy. I am happy to have you as a new friend, especially since you are committing yourself to this for life like I am. It is comforting to know this long road won't be so only. My big goal is 90lbs but it might end up being 110. like book, I'll be happy to hear whatever you need to talk about.
This definitely isn't easy. I had to resist the urge to bored eat last night. I might be a little jealous of people who don't eat when they aren't hungry. Then again, I would never eat if that were the case. I just have to get used to eating by a clock again.

I read a book by Jillian Michaels called Slim for Life. It was one of the best diet books I've ever read with a slew of information and helpful advice to boost your metabolism. Reading it opened my eyes to the bad foods that I was eating. Losing weight comes to eating good foods to nourish your body without exceeding your daily calorie intake.2

I love this line "Losing weight comes to eating good foods to nourish your body without exceeding your daily calorie intake." That's so true. It's definitely a daily thing. In the past I've lost weight but I've always gained it back when I reached my goal because I stopped paying attention to how much I was eating.0

I do eat for pleasure every so often. Tomorrow will be one such day. I have to get a tooth repaired and my aunt is driving me. So we are going to get a pedicure and eat at my favorite restaurant.
But you can also use 'food is fuel'. I find other things to stimulate that happy feeling. Not that all of my good nourishing food taste bad. But there only so much you can do with a salad. At least my breakfast no longer tastes like dirt. I will need to find another use for that flax seed...1 -
I cook 1 tsp of flax seed over two cut up green apples in the oven most evenings. It tastes really good to me!0

Hello, I’m Tanya.
I have always struggled with my weight, and now, after tragically losing my 21 year old daughter in July 2024, I have decided that I need to become stronger (mentally and physically)and healthier than I have let myself become. My daughter wouldn’t want me to be like this.
I’m now taking this “Wellness Journey” seriously in her honour.2 -
Welcome Tanya. I am so sorry for your loss and cannot imagine what you have gone through. Best wishes for a successful Wellness Journey.

hello Tanya and welcome. I am so sorry for your loss. I have lost a life partner and a best friend but not a child. I can’t even imagine how painful that must be. I don’t know what you believe but if you believe she is in Heaven, I’m sure she is proud of you.

Hello Tanya. I'm going to echo about being sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose someone very young. My best friend died when we were fifteen. It's still hard 35 years later. The best way to honor our loved ones is to live well. So welcome to the group!

@luvfurbabies it is great to virtually meet you Debbie. I am also 56, turning 57 this year. I have been off and on MFP for years, but almost always for a vanity reason. I decided last spring that it was time to really make my health a priority. A lot if it was because I am not too terribly far from retirement and want to make sure I have an active retirement, with travel, hiking, swimming etc. Watching others not be able to do those things really made me look at everything differently. Good luck on your journey

megd44 thanks for the welcome and I agree with you I was re reading some of my past journal and came across 1 entry on how I felt when I seen a picture of me at the beach and thought I do not want to feel like that this year it this was not about the weight there was a variety of things going on so I thought no more of feeling like that and I want to become healthy and active so in my 60 and further on I can do the things as you describe. In May I am doing an walking challenge and holding myself to 1 I been wanting to do for the past year n half I will start and half ways life happens and so many other things keep going on and in therapy I was told it is ok and not to beat myself up about it for I felt I can not get this completed in each day to do my top 8 ,but this month I am starting it it is a 6 month one 😊
