Page Turners & Portion Burners Book Club

We are thrilled to announce our new Book Club open to all Fat2Fit Members! Led by Motivator of the Shape Shifters Team, @nancyinmiami!!
- Our goal will be to read one book a month and meet over Zoom to discuss.
- Use this chat to ask questions, share thoughts and explore ideas.
- Once we obtain a list of all participants, we can vote on meeting days/times.
- We are starting with The New York Times bestseller, Atomic Habits by James Clear. Even if you've read it before, Clear's book provides a solid framework for developing new habits (and breaking some old ones) that are beneficial.
- We will then vote on future reads and genres.
- If you're looking to pick up this book, try local libraries, local bookstores, Amazon, Libby App and Audible.
Looking forward to great discussions on this first selection. Join us!!

Thank you @nancyinmiami and @jessicakrall8 for getting the group started! I’m looking forward to supporting one another as we build positive habits and eliminate unhelpful ones! Best wishes, everyone!

I'm interested!

This is very exciting!!! Looking forward to meeting folks over ZOOM, and discussing this book which I already had, but hadn't read (yet)! Of course, I had it squirreled-away in the apartment, and it took 15 minutes to find the darn thing - got part of my daily exercise! Count me in, unless it conflicts with my Thursday evening TOPS men's group on ZOOM.😉

Great book to start with! Thank you for starting this, @nancyinmiami !
By the way, if you have Spotify Premium/Family plan, you can listen to the audiobook for FREE.

I'll try to participate, but I have a tough time using zoom, because it's all head shots and unrelenting eye contact. I'll give it a try, depending on the day/time scheduled.
4 -
I’m in!!! I never used zoom but Im sure I’ll have no issues figuring it out

@micaroo4 - If it helps to shut off your camera after the first introductions, or at any point in the discussion, I’m guessing nobody would mind. There are definitely ways we can accommodate everyone who wants to participate (e.g., you can use the ‘raise your hand’ feature so we know when you want to make a comment, etc.).
@krysless3 - I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out the Zoom technology and I’m happy to help as needed — looking forward to it!

I'm In depending on day/time for Zoom i have a busy month in June

I’m interested in rereading this great book! I’ve got a lot of travel coming up but I’ll do what I can!
5 -
hi everyone! I’m so excited to be doing this with all of you!! I created a short Google form for each of you, so I can get an idea of what works best for everyone with respect to when we should meet/days/times/etc. Thanks for taking a minute to fill it out when you have the chance!!
2 -
Thank you @nancyinmiami I filled out the form!
3 -
@nancyinmiami the only question I would add to the form, is what time zone do you live in. We have members from all over the world and just want to make this as inclusive as possible 😊

@lauren_989 hi, I thought I put Eastern Standard Time in the choices! I’m sorry if it didn’t show that!
2 -
Hi everyone: thank you to all who have responded so far. If you haven’t responded and would like to participate, please take a few second to do so. Once I receive all the responses, we will narrow the choices down and vote. Thanks!

How did I miss this forum going live?? Asleep at the switch again. Not sure that I own a Zoom-capable device but we'll see. Should be fun! 😊

I decided since I already listened to the audiobook this past week that I would get a workbook for the book. James Clear doesn't make a printed workbook, just gives out a bare-bones PDF. So, I went with this one, which is by some other person but gets good reviews:
I got it on eBay for $11 including shipping. It has chapter summaries and worksheets to fill out. Hopefully, between the audiobook on Spotify and this workbook, I'll be good for the discussion!

OK peeps, I just finished a book that I have to recommend to y'all! It's called "The Retirment Plan" and is by Sue Hincenbergs. It is a murder mystery involving 4 couples who have been friends for 30 years and is built on misconstrued circumstances and misinterpreted snippets of overheard conversation. The plot is great, there's a new twist every day, and the characters are wonderful. I particularly liked Hector and Pam. I laughed out loud (startling my husband) on many occasions as the dialogue is spot on. Anyone who has been married this long can totally relate!! Here's an example of a conversation between 2 of the husbands:
Larry: "You could have said no."
Hank: "Could I have Larry? Really? If you could say no to Nancy, would you be wearing those shorts?" Larry winced but didn't look down at his pastel, quilted, patchwork-design Bermudas embroidered with tiny whales.
🤣 Y'all know those shorts! I'm not going to tell you more because I don't want to ruin your fun. Just go read the book! 👍️

Hi Readers and welcome to June!
Thank you all for completing the survey. I have tabulated the results:
- The week of July 28 was the overwhelming winner;
- Later evenings (7:00-9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time) had a majority of 73.3%; and
- Wednesday was the preferred winner with 78.6%
So that being the case, I'd like to propose Wednesday, July 30 for our Zoom meeting. That gives us all more than enough time to read (and for me to figure out how to host a Zoom meeting lol).
Let's talk about a time. What works for everyone: 7:00? 8:00? 9:00? 10:00? We won't go longer than an hour and I'll have questions and talking points prepared. Please reply with your preferred time.
One more thing: I will need your email address. A few days prior, I will send you an invite with a link. My email is nancyinmiami@yahoo.com. It will speed the process along if you have already downloaded Zoom either on your computer or phone (it's an app). It's free and easy to use, but if you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask!
Thanks!

@nancyinmiami 7pm is my preference, because of having to get early for work and gives me enough time to get home from work, even if I have to stay a little past 5, which happens often. BUT, if others prefer 8pm, I'll adjust accordingly. I'm just glad to be included. I think I'll use my iPad to connect and you already have my email address. Did I read correctly that you're waiting until Jul 30th? I thought you'd have a meeting in June, since today is just the 1st. Unless Jul was a typo, do we really need to wait two months? Not complaining…just surprised.
This book club is going to be so much fun.
Question for everyone…how many of you have already read or at least found the book? Anything profound for you in the first chapter?
Jessica

@DaffyGirl88 I have added The Retirement Plan to my "Want to Read" list on Goodreads.com. It looks interesting…I always love a good mystery. Thanks for sharing!

Hi @nancyinmiami since I'm on the west coast and work until 5:00 at the earliest, I prefer 8 pm EST. I will send my email address to you. Thanks for arranging this!
@jessicakrall8 I have listened to the whole audiobook. I need to focus harder on it, I found it all profound!

I’m in the central time zone so a start at 8 or 9 Eastern would work best for me

@jessicakrall8 nope, July wasn’t a typo lol. I guess because it’s summer: vacations, holidays, kids home, etc., July was the winner 😊

I'm in CST so I'm not going any later than 7:00 CST I'm in bed by 8PM CST most nights

Hi all! 🙋♀️ I'm in bed at 8 but will try to stay up. 😁 Old desktop user here so no camera or mic capability there 😕 but hopefully will have a new phone before then. 🤞 I have a small POS tablet that I learned early during COVID doesn't Zoom well. 😔 For someone who's son works in the industry I am seriously ill equipped. 😂😂

I'll need a 7 pm or 8 pm start time (ET). Anything later and "my MS brain starts to fade-away for the day"! Might I suggest that if there is enough interest someone consider leading a West Coast group (if the East Coast leader would be willing share her questions and notes)? Also, is this book group only meeting one time? I would think, since we're only meeting for an hour (and if we're a large number of people), we'd want to delve in deep over several weeks. My preference that is! I'd definitely be interested in leading a group for this book for a number of weeks (at least 6).

@baodell17724 Hi, my hope is that this first book club meeting leads to many more (hopefully monthly). Having a separate group for the West Coast might be a good idea. Talk to @jessicakrall8 if that’s something you’d like to lead. And of course, I’d be happy to share all my notes with you 😊

I’ll adjust to whatever the group decides since you’ve already got time zones to juggle. I work with people across multiple time zones, so I’m used to adapting. I’ll send you my email address for the Zoom link. Thank you! 🙏🏼

hi all: I made a mistake regarding the date. I am taking a musical theatre class on Wednesday nights during the summer, and our last class and performance is Wednesday, July 30. My screw-up and I apologize.
So can we go with the next most popular day and reschedule to Tuesday the 29th? I’m flexible on the time—whatever the group wants.
Thank you and I apologize for the confusion !!3
