Got home last night around 9 p.m. Would have gotten here sooner, but there were bad thunderstorms just south of DC that resulted in several accidents. and we missed the exit for the express lanes and were stuck on the beltway for a long, long time.

The double funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon and it was just a lovely service with wonderful music, including a bluegrass band, as that was my BIL's favorite. I was happy that the people who spoke told interesting stories that portrayed my sister's and BIL's personalities and interests and it wasn't a heavy, religious type service. Hopefully, as some time passes, the biological children from both sides and the adopted siblings will get on the same page and things will be friendlier and calmer down there.

Now, I am home still trying to juggle a lot of appointments, both medical and nonmedical. I have a pre-post surgery nutritionist appointment this afternoon at 4:30. They are again predicting very bad afternoon storms, which I hope will hold off until I can get this done and get back home. While we were gone, there were bad storms and one of our neighbors had their basement flood. So first thing this morning, hubby went down the street to give them a hand. Because it's a federal holiday today, the landfills are closed, so they have lots of soggy stuff they must hang on to for at least another day.

For the first time in 15 years, I literally did not try to log food or get in my activity since we told about the accident two weeks ago today. There was just too much going on. So I'm not logging steps or kcals burned. I'm just relieved that my weight has held steady.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts. I could really feel the energy you were all sending my way. Now if I can just get through the surgery on the 30th and allow a little healing time from that, I'm ready to focus on getting healthier than ever and doing some things that I had been putting off. These deaths were a real lesson in what is important.

I am so looking forward to hearing what has been going on with all of you. Kelly, I was so happy to see the moving pics on FB. I really like the look of your new house and I hope that this works out well for you, Shawn, and the kids.

So now, ladies, bring me up to speed and give me something to think about besides myself! (When I'm in my mind, I'm behind the enemy line! 🙂)

Sarah - welcome home!!! Get some rest, focus on your upcoming surgery and what you need to do for you! I still have you in my prayers…

As I said, I started back with my trainer last week. Went Thursday and Tuesday and I'll be going again tonight. I'm logging into the new app - which is similar to MFP, but what I did discover is that you can't go backwards and update notes or exercise, so I must be sure to do that on the day of training. Just trying to figure out my meals still. I'll be down a lb or two one day and back up the next but I do seem to be holding in a small range. Tonight I have my first "group" meeting, so we'll see how that goes. Last night my company rented a movie theater for us and we got to see "How to Train Your Dragon", the live action version. Rhea saw the movie at summer camp in the morning so I took my neighbor with me. It was a smaller theater, but it was almost to capacity. We had waters with some popcorn as we watched. It was good to see some of the field co-workers, but not a lot of time to socialize. Still a fun night. I got home about 930 and I am TIRED today.

Kelly - I agree, the new home looks great. I'm sure you will love being there and your family will thrive and make some lasting memories. Now for you to settle in and then focus on you again.

Sheesh - hoping all is well with you and i look forward to your update.

Oh my gosh, I'm heading in the wrong direction.

Sarah, I'm so glad you're home safely, and that the service was nice for your sister and BIL. Wow, that was quite the shock for you and their family. We really are unable to predict anything in life. Resiliency is a key trait to so many things. I'm sending you good thoughts every day still, as you approach your upcoming surgery. I'm sure you'll do great.

I'm sorry to be late posting. We've been so busy. We had a birthday party for my SIL here, and then another bar-b-q here for Father's Day. The kids were all so fun . . it's been very hot here, so we put cool water in the hot tub and had squirt gun fights, and had a great time. Our step granddaughter is so fun and really good with her little sisters. Tuesday, we had tickets to the theater to see "& Juliet", which was really good. I hadn't expected that it would be funny, but it was and we had a great time. Also ate out, and alcohol, so it's no wonder my weight is up. Yesterday I had a lot of housework and laundry to catch up on and playdates with Cali boys. My Cali granddaughter is coming to Utah to spend time with her Grandparents and cousins in St. George (Southern Utah) in July, and her grandma is going to bring her up to us to stay for a few days. Then her mother is flying here to get her and they'll fly back to Cali together the next day. Unfortunately, my daughter here and her family will be out of town when she's here. So, if you have any suggestions for keeping a 12, almost 13 yo girl busy, pass it on here, lol. I had my trainer Monday and today as usual, did 3 miles on the TM on Tuesday, but Wednesday was a day of housework only.

Lois, how was "How to Train Your Dragon"? Maybe we'll take Cali granddaughter to that if she hasn't seen it already. I'm so happy you're doing this program for yourself. Logging every day is more difficult, but then you can see how you're going the day of. Can you log ahead of time? Like if you have planned your meals for the day? I like to do it that way because then I already know what to eat and it keeps me on track (when I'm logging, hah). And, I always have more time in the morning to log food.

Kelly, dang it, I don't get to see photos on FB. . post one here when you have time. I'm so happy for you and Shawn! I hope the new house is everything you want.

Well, I have to go serve up some dinner (leftovers). Have a great evening.

Quick quick post here - At work this morning to get a few things wrapped up and then I'm off this afternoon and on vacation until July 2. Woot woot. We plan to go to the cabin this weekend for a night or 2 and then we have to come home and finish the work and cleaning at the old house. Monday we have physio for Ella and then Tyler's grad ceremony that night. Tuesday we have Tyler's grad dinner and then it's his safe grad where we have to pick him up at 2am. After that, the new owners take possession on the 26th. I'll do my best to maybe post or at least check in while I'm off.

Sheesh - loved the movie. I still watch the animated one from time to time - it's too cute. The live action only added a small change - it's still a real cute movie. I keep a lot of craft stuff at home. I bought some ceramic pieces to paint when I have Kelsie with Rhea. Bought some lanyard crafts to make those old square key holder things (different colored laces) . Decorate cookies with the icing. Maybe a pedicure appointment with them (Kelsie won't go).

Yes - I can log ahead of time, but I forgot to add in my exercise and wanted to make some notes for the day before. So that's what I don't like about the app.

I had my first group session yesterday. Annoying to be honest. A lot of them started touting otc stuff that shouldn't have been allowed, and some really dumb comments. The process is good as the link to sign in isn't provided until 50 mins into the hour - so you have to stay online until near the end to get the credit. I also did my training last night. DANG did I feel Tuesday's workout. I was done at 30 mins. I'm hungry today.

Kelly - enjoy your pto. I know you'll be busy but be sure to take some time for you to rest and recover as well.

Sarah - still thinking about you.

Kelly, I really like your new house! 😁 Contemporary and beautiful. You will love it, I'm sure. Enjoy your time off, which you have more than earned, and recharge for the coming week.

Lois, thanks for the input on activities and the movie. Keep 'em coming. Glad you're jumping into this new program. Even though it will be annoying at times, I'm betting you will get all that's possible to be gained from it, and it's a good reminder for all that you already know. Ignore the rest.

    Sarah, sending you support.

I'm still sore from Thursday's weight training. I did 60 minutes of cardio yesterday (low to mod HR) that I thought would help pump the lactic acid, which it did, but today I'm resting. Just cleaning out some drawers in my kitchen. Tomorrow, we're going to the AA baseball game. I don't remember if I told you that they moved the franchise to a brand new stadium in a different part of the valley. Of course, tickets are more money, and probably everything else, but we're going to check it out. Maybe I'll post a photo.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Quick check-in. I started logging food again on Friday and hope to keep that up, although it's going to be tough from June 25 until about July 10 or so. I had my nutritionist appointment on Thursday afternoon and she explained that they've found that people who follow this nutrition program that starts 5 days before surgery and continues for a couple of weeks afterward have much better outcomes. The program includes something called Ensure Surgery, which has all the macros needed but also has 330 kcals per bottle, and I'm supposed to drink two of those each day and also follow a food plan. Best I can figure, I'll be getting about 1800 kcals a day, which is way more than I normally get. And of course, post-surgery, I will not be able to exercise for a while, so I'm pretty fearful about how much weight this will pack on. But I know that if it ups my chances of a good outcome, I need to do it.

And mentioning exercise, I did not get on the TM Thursday or yesterday. I was still tired, both physically and emotionally, had medical appointments both days, and had a number of things to catch up on. But I'm headed down to visit Dolvet right after I log off here. 😊 As you may have heard, the east coast is in a heat wave. Temps will be around over 100 degrees every day for about 4 or 5 days. And of course, we have humidity to beat the band. I just pray that we don't have severe thunderstorms as a result of this front that might cause power outages.

I have been so grateful to log in and see posts from everyone. It gives me a little break into "normal." Lois, I agree with Sheesh. Take what you know is good sound advice at the program meetings and just let the other stuff go. Too many people get sucked in to products by the never-ending promotions they see online and a dose of wishful thinking. Let them!

Kelly, hope you get a couple of relaxing days at the cabin and that you can enjoy all the graduation festivities.

Sheesh, have a good time with your granddaughter and fun at the ballgame. That other ballfield was so beautiful, I can't believe that it closed. But baseball is always fun. Nats are on a terrible losing streak, but I keep reminding myself that we're rebuilding and that it's a game. I just wish it wasn't such a money-driven game, but all professional sports are that way now-a-days.

So off to walk. I'm hanging in here and know that all the good vibes that have been sent my way have helped. ❤️

Thank you ladies for the affirmations!! I'm still "working the program". Working hard, stumbling, but I'm more aware. I have lots of fresh veggies to crunch and munch (celery, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, sweet peppers). I also ordered some protein shakes. I am going to try the Fairlife chocolate as they are lower in carbs and still 30g protein. It has had a lot of good reviews so I hope it's tasty for days I need the protein but watching the carbs. I stopped drinking coffee (not even decaf) a couple of weeks ago to aid in my sleep. I've made several other changes - exercise, no naps, zzquil, the new program and more. I've had a couple of decent night's sleep and then last night - horrible. My Garmin is giving me a sleep score of 63. I'm so tired today. Work is crazy. Rhea and her parents were here yesterday. We had a fun visit. It was so hot. They swam. We ordered chipotle. Rhea's parents are on zepbound and we all split our meals in 1/2 and had the 2nd half for dinner and we didn't order any desserts (which is a big win). We had a great day. I wish I could blame my exhaustion on that but…I just could not sleep last night.

Sarah - stay focused. We've got you! We're here.

Sheesh - if I come up with any other ideas for the grands, I'll let you know. and thanks so much for your support.

Lois, it sounds like you're on a good path, and I'm glad that many nights, you've had much better sleep. I sometimes take benedryl to help me sleep, but for 2 weeks prior to surgery, I'm supposed to avoid OTC products. I was afraid I'd be up half the night, but although it's sometimes a little harder to fall asleep, I'm sleeping okay. So I see this as a chance to stop taking an antihistamine for sleep purposes because I've read that there might be a link with overuse of these and dementia. And I will be joining you on the no coffee wagon, too. I'm supposed to switch to decaf coffee or tea and even limit that. Who knows, maybe this pre- and post-surgery nutrition program will help me develop some better habits moving forward.

I wish I could say that I'm back to 10K steps a day, but I'm not. I think I got 6K yesterday. I'm still not back to normal in terms of energy and perhaps knowing that I won't be able to walk much for a short-time post-surgery is affecting me, too. Today, I have my pre-op where they do the EKG, draw blood and such. Then it's pre-surgery diet plan, prep on Sunday (which, oh-Lord, I dread!). I am so hoping that this surgery can be done with minimal incisions and without a colostomy. Even a temporary one will be hard to accept. So prayers that will not be needed.

Tomorrow I have 3-month radiation follow-up appointment with the radiologist who took over when mine retired in April. I'm so glad that I was able to be one of Dr. Stinson's last patients, but I'm sure the new doc will also be more than capable. It's Johns Hopkins after all! I'm using my experience to help a friend who is just starting this journey. A friend helped me and so I'm paying it forward.

Well, off to walk for a short time before I have to hit good old I-270 again. I thought traffic was supposed to get lighter in summer because folks would be away on vacation. 🤔 But then, they just keep building more and more housing to bring more and more people onto our roads, which are already strained. Kelly, living in a smaller place sounds good to me a lot of times, and I hope that your move turns out to be a very good thing for you, Shawn and the kids. Sheesh, hope you enjoyed your visit with the granddaughter and the quick visit with your daughter before they headed back west. How was the new ballpark? I am so glad our guys are playing away games now and not trying to play here during this heatwave. We actually beat the Padres last night!
