Today's Topic: a short walk
What constitutes a “short” walk for you nowadays? How has that changed over time?

1 mile. I like 2-3 mile walks if I am out and about.
The biggest change for me is incorporating 1 mile walks into my activity/exercise as opposed to leisure.

A short walk for me is likely a half-hour or so - enough to say I did something, but not strenuous. Most days, my outdoor walk is just over three miles, and some days crowding six miles.

I have a 1.5 mile neighborhood loop that is a frequent short walk. My wife insists that one direction is hillier than the other, so we refer to this loop as walking "a yuse" (as in usual) or "a reverse yuse."

Short? 1 mile. I really like walking. My covid silver lining has been my afternoon walk. Usually 3.5-4 miles. Have dialed it down a bit to 3 miles in the heat.

I don't dislike walking, but prefer cycling for getting outside for some exercise. Whenever I go to the store, I park far away from the entrance, so get in a short walk. Interestingly, those looking for a close-in spot, especially at big-box stores like Costco, are still circling the aisles look for a parking spot as I walk in the front door. I got a book for my birthday of neighborhood walks in our area, with descriptions of tree types and other items of interest.

A short walk is probably a 15-20' walk, but that's more based on going from point A to point B without a car. When we were in our last home, we'd do a 20-30' walk for pleasure around the neighborhood as our short walk, but not really for exercise. I find running to be a more efficient way to burn calories and get my heart rate up. I'm not sure this has really changed much from the past, as I didn't really walk for exercise in the past either.

Currently a long walk is 4 miles, I have been trying to alternate between doing a long walk and a short walk (1 mile) on alternating days. I am not perfect about keeping to that schedule, but it is a goal for me. This is fairly recent for me (about 6 weeks) as I continue to recover from the cardiac issue I struggled with the last few years, I can feel my energy levels starting to recover, now if only the scale would recover as well.

With my "issues" I can't do much over 250 steps at a time, and even then I'm breathing very hard, and "wheezy".
I usually accomplish FitBit's 250 steps/hour, for consecutive 12 hour span (9AM -9PM).
When I go shopping at the grocery or Wally World, I'm beat when we finish.

I also struggle to walk any distance with my back issues

We have a 4 mile walking loop in our community which I am able to take advantage of that includes a few hills (that I struggle with) for regular walks. There is 1 neighbor lady in the community who does it 2x a day on a regular basis in alternating color co-ordinated outfits right down to her shoes! I both admire her and think she is a little crazy every time I see her. Not sure if I will ever be abbe able able to take on that level of challenge!
