Today's Topic: [kitten] it's hot!

It has been particularly hot in my area, and I know that is true in most of the US right now. How does heat affect how you approach your lifestyle? Indoor v outdoor exercise? Diminished appetite? Increased appetite? More grilling than baking? More time vegging on the couch? More time hiking or swimming or water skiing? How does it affect YOU?!

I don't run outside in the heat. I have made it to the treadmill a few times this summer, but not as often as I run during better weather.

Just for the record, we are having a mild summer here in Dallas. Very few 100℉ days.

I’ve ended up in the gym instead of park for my walk a number of times because of the heat. Not quite so bad last couple of weeks so I’ve been in the park but for less time. Gym is kind of gloomy.

I still like to try to run if possible, even if it's hot, but I will make some adjustments. For example, we might run earlier in the day (even before the sun comes up) and/or leave some water outside of our place and run loops to be able to grab a drink every mile or two.

I will avoid being outside unnecessarily, though, if it's crazy hot, or more so, hot and humid.

We've turned the thermostat up from 74 to 78 in house. The power bulks had gone through the roof 50% higher. So we turned up the fans and I already stay inside more vecause I have a head skin cancer from years ago and I'm having surgery to remove it September 11th. This about the 4th head skin cancer that's been removed in the last 5 years do I avoid the sun like the plague.

We've had a real drop in temperature since Erin went by up the east coast.

I do find it harder to want to go out and walk in the hot weather, for some days I can adjust the time I am outdoors to earlier in the day, but there are those days when its already 80 degrees or better at 6 AM with humidity above 90 percent when I do not want to even go to the mail box to bring in the mail

I largely live a “Florida lifestyle”, going from AC in the house to AC in the car to AC in my destination.

In terms of exercise, my walking outside is done before 11 AM so even on our hottest days I’ve been done before it hits 86°.

The one thing heat impacts? When it’s in the 90’s, I won’t generally stand on the deck and grill. That’s normally maybe once a week, so it’s not a big impact.

We're used to walking inside (think winter, snow and ice), so that's our go to when it's real bad (only had 3-4 of those this summer, so far.

We both dislike AC, and only have a small one in the bedroom. Relying on overhead and window fans.

We will often have a smaller/easier dinner.

The weather in the Pacific NW is usually ok to be outside. I cycle frequently, but if it’s too hot for comfort, I ride my indoor stationary bike. We have a heat pump which provides AC so are always at a comfortable temperature indoors. We eat at home and have no problem using the oven. In general no restrictions
