I am an ACTIVE person ~ moving and eating for longevity!

New habit: Yoga 30 mins a day in September (started on 8/31). Stacking habit: walking for exercise 3 times a week to daily walks - 3-4 miles minimum.

    September 2 - 🚶‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🍱 📖 🛌

September 3 - 🧘‍♀️ 🍱 📖 🛌 no walk; doctor appointment, chiropractor and therapeutic massage today

    September 4 - 🚶‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🥘 📖

    September 5 - 🚶‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🥘 🛌 good sleep, close to 9 hours

    September 6 - 🚶‍♀️ 🧘‍♀️ 🥘 📖 🛌

    September 7: 🧘‍♂️ 🍱 📖 🛌 - body suggested a recovery day

    September 8: 🧘‍♀️ 🍚 📖 🛌 - back to my long walk

    September 9: 🚶‍♀️🥗 📖 🛌- break from painful hand

    September 10: 🚶‍♀️🥗 📖 🛌

    September 11: 🚶‍♀️🥗 📖 🛌 x Ray; wrist brace while healing

September 12: day trip to see elderly mother and help; gone 9 hrs so no exercise

    September 13: 🚶‍♀️🥗 📖 🛌

    September 14: 🚶‍♀️ 🙆‍♀️ 🥗 📖 broken sleep

    September 15: 🚶‍♀️ 🙆‍♀️ 🥗 📖 broken sleep

    September 16: 🧘‍♀️ 🥘 📖 - broken sleep

    September 17: 🧘‍♀️ 🥘 📖 🛌

Back to a lighter yoga practice but did not get my 3 mile walk today. The broken sleep is due to being awakened by my husband with some kind of post surgery need. I always fall back to sleep but don’t like having to turn on lights to look for something. I love my uninterrupted sleep.
I have also found myself slipping on tracking my daily habits in my calendar (color coded) for a handful of days! I’ve been taking my DH to his PT appointments (also a priority) and helping family but want to get back to that important activity for good habit building.

I have a summer cold. Very congested. It has affected my sleep, but still striving for at least 7 hrs. Everyone is doing great! Keep it up!

@snowshoe072 I am glad you dusted off your guitar. Take time to enjoy yourself!

@Michieb125 I understand how broken sleep causes poorer habits. Hope your husband has a speedy recovery.

Yesterday was the funeral. I actually got in some activity in, doing a short spin workout first thing in the morning then a short walk with my sister and her puppy.

Very far over calories thanks to the many gifts of food.

    Good Mornng all…

@77tes you are doing great just coming in and reporting to us!!! 👏👏👏

I am still here and reading but am learning to be gentle with myself. Last dose of nasty med this morning if I can stomach it. Woke up a bit headachy but no fever still so I am counting not having a fever all week as a win.

Snoeshoe hope that cold goes away quickly!

@77tes how nice to have your sister with you and also didn’t have to think about meals for a few days. By the way, your lifting and spin habits are worthy of praise!

Seems like the cold/flu/Covid season has arrived for some. For those affected I hope you feel better very soon. Nothing worse than being down with a virus. 🌺

Well I don't know if I am on the mend or not but I have not had a fever for almost a week now and altho my head is still stuffy (which makes me wake up headachey) I think I might be ready to do a little more. I did get out for an afternoon walk yesterday so my energy must be creeping back again. I fear I am going to test positive for the next month so altho I don't have any symptoms during the day after my head clears I will talk to my boss and team to see if they want me to stay remote….

ANy thoughts on something to glue this together? It is my favorite suncatcher and a week ago the string broke I guess and I found it in pieces on the floor. I have tried glass repair and superglue and some of it goes together but the last 2 big pcs refuse to let me put the left and right side together. Oddly this is pretty old and I could not find a replacement online except 1 ebay thing.

My DH has been getting up at night with post TKR surgery leg pain/discomfort. That means I’m up too (broken sleep). He doesn’t like to take anything more than Tylenol - we’re exploring topical creams, sleep hygiene, and possibly Benadryl tonight. Almost 4 weeks in, so hopefully this should resolve within a couple more weeks.

Feeling stalled on the daily yoga front—I’ve reconsidered my habit and I believe I will be satisfied with 2 times a week along with my other walking and getting back to the gym habits. I also stay active with grandkids team sports and my women’s groups. I feel better about reimagining my yoga goal after reflecting on it!

Here’s to a healthy week ahead!

@SummerSkier , I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with Covid and that your favorite sun catcher broke.  Maybe @terririchardson112 knows of a way to repair it .

@Michieb125 , sorry to hear that both you and your husband are dealing with pain and broken sleep. I hope you get it sorted out soon.

My rest day wasn’t particularly restful, but I went dancing and that was nice.

Trying to catch up. I am feeling quite a bit better. I went to doctor on Saturday. She checked for Covid & strep. Luckily, both were negative. She gave me a steroid shot, steroids, & antibiotics. So hopefully, I will be back in full force soon. Sleep has mostly been naps sitting in the chair because of sinus drainage. I will take it anyway I can get it.

@SummerSkier I am glad you are feeling better. You have been very sick. Take it slow. Your sun catcher is beautiful. I hope you can find a way to repair it. Do you know what kind of material it is? Maybe ask Google.

@Michieb125 I am sorry your husband is having a hard time with pain. That makes it rough on both of you. On your yoga practice, what if you take 5 minutes or less. Just show up on the mat and do whatever moves you feel like at the time. That way you still have the practice, but much more doable during this busy time. Just a thought. :)

@77tes I am so glad you got to go dancing. Sometimes dancing helps more than a rest day. Keep the music flowing. It is amazing the power of music and dancing.

still here. Learning so glad you were negative to all those bad things and are feeling better also. I am still negative but I have some stuffy/cold symptoms and my HR is actually staying higher than it was when I had the virus (I think the meds kept it down?). So I am not doing too much.

dancing is perfect for a rest day 77t!

I actually felt pretty good on my walk yesterday aftrnoon even tho it was hot I had some energy so I take that as a win. Just being kind to myself. Back at work but because of the stuffy trying to stay away from folks as best I can. Sometimes people make it hard. Silly close talkers! (Seinfield was right…)

@SummerSkier It does sound like your body is still recovering. I am glad you are being kind to yourself. You need that. Recovery is not easy even after Covid has passed. Your walk is definitely a win. Just don't over do it.

@77tes You are doing great. That is super you are back doing your regular housework routines.

I owe all of you in this group a huge thank you. I was looking at my big goals and realized it wasn't a good goal. I still think of my health goals as having an end date. I look at all of you and have seen you in action. Your habits have kept you grounded to a large extent. My healthy habits go out the window when things get tough. So I am rethinking all my goals and realizing that my goals need to be having these habits that create a healthy lifestyle. Not just the lifestyle itself. I know this should have been obvious, but for some reason I thought the habits just help. Instead, they are the main event. Anyway, thank you for being wonderful mentors.

still here. Very congested yesterday afternoon and overnight and this morning in my head but no headache and no fever so calling it a win. I guess it feels kind of like a bad cold right now which is strange but I was probably too optimistic thinking I would have a week only course. LOL.

Yesterday WAS a win tho because all I wanted to do when I got home was drop on the couch and eat and instead I pulled up my big girl panties and went for a mile walk. 💪 It helps me and on the bright side of illness my foot and knee are getting some good recovery time. 🤪

@Learningmoments the moment of clarity when you realize there is not an "end" date on healthy habits is wonderful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us on a continuing basis as we all struggle with a lot of the same and you express it so well!

@SummerSkier congrats on your big WIN! You have a great attitude after being ill for what must feel like a long time. And you’re wise to think this experience of having to rest helped rest your knee and foot. I’m sure it has. And congrats on your walk. Things are looking up!

I am adopting a new eating plan which won’t be too hard, I’ll just be more mindful of eating for good nutrition purposes. Yesterday, I shopped all fresh ingredients to start the tried and true healthy eating style today to prevent cardiac disease, and HBP - DASH-Mediterranean.

I know it’s been around for a long time but like the whole food eating style with fresh vegetables and fruits along with nuts and good oils. I would like to lose about 8 lbs. by limiting my crunchy snacks and white carbs.

Aside from that, new habits are going better after some disruption as of late. Doing Yoga last night felt wonderful. I will be taking off for my walk shortly.

@Learningmoments , so true! There is no end date on good habits! I like the monthly challenges because they help me focus on a habit which is a weak point, but I do try to continue after the month is over.

@SummerSkier , bravo ! 🙌 for getting in that walk when you weren’t feeling it. Glad your injured foot gets the recovery time, but Covid is a rough way to rehab an injury.

    @Michieb125 , the DASH/Mediterranean diet is a great way to go! 👏

Today was the first day back to regular activities. I did both my swim classes. I was whipped after that so I skipped my walk, but very proud that I did both classes with power.

@Michieb125 I am so glad you got back to yoga. Adriene has a yoga session for whatever you need. Search whatever you are feeling and she will have several to choose from. You are doing very well. Sounds like your meal plan will be very good. I also found measuring your food in grams really helped me.

@SummerSkier I am glad you are over the headache and fever. The congestion part can still be really tough. I love your bright attitude (healing time for foot & knee). Good job getting the walk. You are so inspiring. Thank you also for your kind word. You and others have taught me a lot. Thank you.

Well I swear I did NOT overdo things but I have Covid Rebound. 😷 I was very congested yesterday morning and meds did not touch it so I went to work but after an hour I called my boss and told him I was going home. I tested positive AGAIn after being neg for 3 days… Hopefully I did not infect anyone. I should have tested before work and am kicking myself a little for that.

My HR is definitely elevated and I think I had some small fever over night. Dr Google says sometimes the rebound is only a few days so fingers crossed when the LOVELY fall weather arrives this weekend I will be better.

Thank you all for keeping up with everything here. It makes for a great distraction and support!

@SummerSkier , oh No ! I’m so sorry that you have rebound Covid! Bummer for sure! I hope it passes quickly, but be gentle with yourself. 🫂

@learningmomements , I’m so glad to hear that you’re back in the swim! 👏 Smart to skip the walk and to take it easier for a bit.

I got my lifting session in, but my cardio was doing yard work like raking and sweeping up rather than spinning or waking.  My yard needs a lot of attention.

I normally do a short meditation before I get out of bed in the morning. In September I am meditating first thing with DH. His yoga teacher is doing an early morning online group meditation Monday to Friday, and has extended the invitation to family members. We are joining her 4 mornings a week, as we go out early on Wed morning to do our weekly grocery shopping. I have reset my morning alarm so that I can join DH.

Habit: Morning meditation with DH 4 x a week. 🧘🏼🧘🏼🧘🏼
    Cue: Phone Alarm.
⏰ Get up, get ready and join DH
Reward: I meet the day in a calm frame of mind.
Celebration: Early morning chat with DH + He Man salute. ⚔️ I HAVE THE POWER ⚔️

This has been such a positive experience. DH and I have done this every morning so far this month.

@77tes 🫶 You are so brave! Be gentle with yourself, my dear. 🫶

@SummerSkier Glass is almost impossible to repair. However, you have done a great job. I would hang it up as is. It will still fill your room rainbows. I have several chipped jewels hanging at my windows.

The Japanese embrace their broken treasures, and do not hide the repairs.
Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi), a traditional art form that mends broken pottery with a lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum

@TerriRichardson112 - I love the idea of Kintsugi. The Japanese also do a similar type of visible mending on clothing. The teacher who led the class on kimono at Costume College also has I class on the mending that is a bit like patchwork — very cool!  The idea of hanging up broken gems is lovely.

A short spin session, followed by giving a wild puppy her bath (a real cardio work). I’m proud of getting my fasting done since I snacked late at night because I couldn’t sleep. That snack helped me sleep, and then I didn’t eat until lunchtime, so I hit the mark I aim for with fasting.

@77tes I have used that Japanese darning on a few items. My granddaughter got me on to it several years ago.

I missed a fair amount life with mom and dad took over a bit but hoping to start a new week with good results. Every day I have been able to walk Koda before work then do a little weight work. I find myself all over the place with my parents my mom has Alzheimer’s and dad is 90….no excuses for me this week.

@snowshoe072 , caring for those with Alzheimer’s is tough. That’s hardly an excuse! Caring for the caregiver is essential. 🫂 I’m so glad you got in the walks and weight work.

I got in my third lifting session and went dancing on Friday evening.

Saturday I took a long walk with my DH.

I’m calling this month done!  I hope to get in one more lifting session on Monday for extra credit.  That makes two months straight of doing 3 strength training sessions per week, and they have been two of the hardest months of my life.  Sticking with these habits have given me some feeling of control and power.

Yeah - I want to call this month DONE and DONE also. This rebound covid was supposed to be short and mild. HAhahahha. It's a lot worse than when I was on the paxlovid but maybe today finally turning a corner. I am still very stuffy and a little coughy but no fever. Of course still testing positive but Dr says that could be for a long time. I don't want to go back to work with cold symptoms tho when I am positive as that seems irresponsible. 😷🤨

I do feel better as the worst were Wed and Thur nights when my HR was so high fitbit thought I was jogging in my sleep and my favorite quils and T3 did not really help with the headaches.. 😏

snowshoe, caring for your parents is a mixed blessing. You definitely don't have to make excuses about that.

What a tough month we have all had. Hopefully Oct will be one of new hope and easier for all of us.

To inspire me the morning glories I love and planted as seeds in the spring have finally blessed me with a few flowers. I was reading up that some seeds are fall bloomers so maybe that is why mine have not seemed to ever bloom until Oct? I am going to have to see if I can find "summer" seeds for next year.
