FEARLESS! October 2025 Challenge
Ahhh...it's that time again. Fall. Temps turns cooler. Leaves change color. At least in the Northern Hemisphere, anyway. But, regardless, all those holiday foods start creeping in on us. Pumpkin this and that. Parades of Halloween candy-crack...And shortly after that Thanksgiving (for some). More and more holiday parties smack us in the face with all those goodies. Before you know it, it's the New Year, and you're wondering "What the heck happened!!!"You're sporting extra weight. You feel guilty and unhealthy. And disappointed in yourself.
And now you're justifiably afraid. You're welcome.
In honor of this being the scary month, you can tackle fear or a scary pattern that often derails you or inhibits your progress.
It doesn't have to be scary! This month's theme is Fearless October. This will be month 1 of a "prepping for the holidays" basics crash course: This is my 9th holiday season as a low-carber. And I have lost weight during this period in the past. It CAN be done.
The keys to success in this WOE, or any eating plan for that matter, is three-fold:
- Consistency
- Persistence
- Time
Well, isn't that trite and overly simplistic? I'll admit it is simple, but not easy.
Don't freak though. To let those 3 keys work for you, you need to be prepared. PLAN PLAN PLAN. I can't stress this enough. Plan ahead; log ahead. When you have a firm plan and procedure in place, you create good habits. And good habits work for you by keeping up momentum even when things get busy, chaotic, or just plain scary. You've already paved the road for yourself! All you have to do is stay on the smooth way and enjoy the scenery.
So in this challenge, and in the months ahead, we'll be working to setup and reinforce those good habits before you get in the thick of it. We'll be setting up those easy paths and building up that momentum by practicing a habit pattern to predispose us to sail through the holidays. Here will be you can keep track of the goals you reach. We can encourage one another, get advice about any trouble spots, share low-carb-legal recipes of our holiday favorites. Identify scenarios or patterns that absolutely scare you to death, and tackle the hades out of them.
We're going to compete with ourselves. We'll set up good habits in areas like: water, electrolytes, staying under carb goal, logging daily, staying close to cal goal, hitting our exercise goal, and for resisting a temptation or working on our "fear."
You all may want to add a goal like: "Pre-logged Day" or "Planned Ahead" or "Resisted Off-Plan Halloween Treat" or "Packed On-Plan Lunch". I do not recommend nixing the logging calories or carbs; however, if you are one who becomes stressed by calorie counting, that's ok. But I recommend at least keeping track of your daily carb intake. Portion and carb creep are real. And it helps to occasionally reset our ability to "eye" our carb-count. Now would be a good time to recalibrate your carb-sense. I want every single one of you guys to coast through the holidays, enjoying them to the fullest. Preparation and consistency are key.
Sorry, I know it's late, but life crises come when they come. Chime in to let us know your personal goals.
We'll accept challengers at any time of the month. Remember, competing against yourself and starting on getting the basics down or refreshing them, before the hectic holiday season is fully upon us, is our goal.
Let's go get it!

Ok here it is. My oldest adult kid got long covid and had to move home. So my house and life are a disaster, and this is late.
I'm participating this month. My goal for the first week is to "FRICKING LOG YOUR FOOD, DOOFUS! Yes, dummy, EVERY DAY."
I don't want to talk about how much weight I have gained back. It's bad. But I'm here now. Be back tomorrow to check in.

I’m here. Late as well. I need to recommit to low carb. Right on time for the upcoming festivities.. I eat gluten free dairy free and aim for a half pound to one pound loss per week deficit. Doctor wants me to get my fasting glucose under 99. I’ve been low carb before but I ate dairy back then so it s a new challenge for me eating gluten free dairy free and low carb and low calorie. Ooof.. October can be for building habits. Getting into routine. Preparing for the days to come. 👍

@baconslave 👏👏👏 great job meeting your goals this week!
Keep up the hard work and dedication…I have not met my goals this week. I ate gluten free and dairy free and met my calorie goal most days but I didn’t drink enough water or meet my carb goals. It seems the less carbs I eat that’s what I crave but I also know if I get off the sugar I’d have less cravings for the carby stuff like breads pastas and sweets. To be fair the bread I eat is gluten free multi grain and the pasta is usually chickpea pasta but those aren’t low carb. I just gotta figure it out. It’s like a mix and match of meals to create a balanced day a balanced week. But it’s doing all the things at once (gf,df,low carb, low cal) that’s difficult for me. But if I could be low carb more often than not I might reap some benefits.. just gotta keep trying..

yesterday I logged all my food and managed to meet my macro goals. Stayed within calorie budget and ate low carb gluten free and dairy free. Even got to enjoy a treat snack. It took a lot of focus and attention throughout the day but I did it! I didn’t drink enough water tho. Can’t be perfect. But progress is happening. I made a list of go to low carb meals from my go to list of gluten free dairy free meals. Let’s see if I can do it again today. 👍

I’ve been hitting my low carb goals while also eating gluten and dairy free more often than not this past week. A few days over my limit but I think I’m getting the hang of things. Practice makes for progress… hope you all are hitting your goals and enjoying the cool down in weather. Let’s keep it going! My meal plan this week is tofu salmon cod meatless and cod again. Feels like I need some chicken in the mix or something. I shall consult my go to meal list I made last week 👍 for inspiration. Tomorrow is my first run day. I’m excited. I think I’m ready. Been walking all month time to add in jog intervals. 🙌 just gotta keep trying…

I've been hit or miss since my last post. Because life is rude. And also because I'm not doing that great. but so Monday and Tuesday of this week I have logged. Trying to keep focused despite how unpredictable everything is right now.

@baconslave hugs to you, life can be soo rude, but at least your still trying, still working towards your goals, doing the best you can, and you know what, when everything is crazy, logging can give you some control amongst the chaos. Keep up the hard work 💪
