Healthy Habits - Healthy Me in NO-vember

@snowshoe072 - hope the new car is good. I had PTSD for almost a year after I got rear ended at a stop light one time. Glad your car did it's job and you were not seriously injured.
@hcoleman232 good luck on the course. Great idea to scope it out!
Still checking in… doing workouts and keeping an eye on the intake. I have started making a list of all the "things" which need doing and that seems to help relieve the stress on me of having to remember it all and have it worrying in the back of my mind. Honestly I have things which I put off for years and would probably be easily fixed if i took the time to hire someone etc…. But they are annoyances and not urgent ..

I’m happy with my progress. Today’s run had 3 walk breaks for a total of about 2 minutes.

Stopping by to say hi and congratulate all of you who are working hard on your NO habits and encourage those who are doing the minimum and just trying to get by. We can stay mindful of what we want and need with each new day. I need to remember this myself!
I am still getting over a moderate cold/cough but I managed to fit in 2 hand weight workouts and 2 yoga/stretch sessions this week in my home gym room. The walking outdoors really took a backseat. I will bundle up and head out shortly with DH to try to get back in the groove.
But, I can report I have been good on saying NO to a few things (food/people) so I can take better care of myself this month - the next week and a half leading up to Thanksgiving will be extra busy with carpet cleaning, cooking and such before my family gathers here for two days.1 -
@snowshoe072 , Oh no! That car accident sounds very scary. I’m so glad to hear that you escaped with minimal injuries.
@hcoleman232 , I have a ball Dec 14, so that’ll be a big weekend for both of us. Sounds like your personal plan is working for you better than the group training. 🙌 Great run!
@SummerSkier , keeping up with tracking and workouts is what this month is all about! Going full tilt all the time isn’t sustainable. Making a list of things that need to be done is a great idea. 💡 Getting them out of your head and down on paper is priceless.
@Gigi _815, Getting through these busy months while keeping our habits goal in our eye is a real challenge. It is a great time to practice learning and adjusting.
@Learningmoments , Hugs. 🫂, Saying NO is tough!
@Michieb125 , glad you were able to get in some indoor exercise while dealing with a cold/cough. Good job 👏 I am taking it easy with Thanksgiving - my oldest daughter will be hosting, so I’m just bringing the veggie and dip platter and a pumpkin pie. I hope you can get some time to relax in
Struggled with emotional eating, so I didn’t hit my goal, but I logged it all.

Better day, and it ended with dancing , 💃 so my mood is much better. The rain arrived, so I didn’t get in a walk, but dancing counts. I also got in some spinning 🚴 and my third lifting session of the week 🏋️🏋️🏋️.

I was able to get out this morning to do a few errands like a trim, desperately needed my 3 week trim got out of order that’s what happens with short hair! Koda and I got a brief walk in and later today I went for a stroll through the village knew I went to far after going up the hills you are either up or down hills were we live no choice!
Possible snow tomorrow and freezing rain I am hoping for minimal as I won’t be of much use to dh this time around maybe I can be the vehicle mover so he can snowblow if we get that much will let you all know!1 -
@snowshoe072, Yay for getting that needed hair cut!. Keeping your own spirits up is so important !
Another rainy day, so I did a spin workout in place of a walk. I love walking outdoors, but I can sure get my heart rate up on my spin bike.

Keeping my sugar intake low and just slightly reducing my carb intake to help my gut issue's..swapping jam for peanut butter etc . I need to be careful and slowly do this.. some one like me can't feel too deprived.

@77tes I like your comment about how it’s a great time to practice learning, and adjusting even during these busy moths.
I’ve done this a bit lately too. Took a look at what I’m doing well and where I am falling ‘short’ and asking if I can modify to give myself a little grace right now.
Another MFP friend shared this article recently and I like some of the ideals on habit change!https://huntershealthhacks.beehiiv.com/p/environment-is-everything?utm_source=huntershealthhacks.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=environment-is-everything&_bhlid=e41229c297b73b56beae8486dccd8fa4ad608c94

@donna25trinity , reducing sugar is tricky, but as a peanut butter fiend, I assure you that the swap will be satisfying ! My newest gut-healthy favorite is pickled foods. There is an all-natural pickle vendor at our farmers market and my daughter (who does my shopping there) jokes about how difficult it is to keep me in pickled beets, but she’s as bad about pickled chicken peas. Yum 😋 and no added sugar.
@Michieb125 , Good point, keeping things sustainable is so important. I’m looking forward to reading that article !
Lots of rain (we are having the wettest November in L.A. history according to a neighbor), but there was a break in the rain and we got out for a nice walk, hurriedly heading back as it began to pour.

@Michieb125 , that really was a good article! I especially liked the point about environment. My daughter wanted to do mobility training, but has struggled with when and how. This morning she got a workout done because last night she put her mat, blocks, and water and electrolytes ready in her room. Environment for the win. Also, having people around you who are interested in what you’re doing is important. My workout friends at the park are always an inspiration to me.
We even had some sunshine during our walk although the rain started later. I got my lifting workout 🏋️ done! 🙌

Great run @hcoleman232
@SummerSkier love how u to all the things that need to get done, know that inspired me to get a breast check and dental work done that I'd held off for years. Next is a doctors check up and organising our closets. I need a better system gets messy every few months xo
@snowshoe072 sounds like ur taking care of yourself despite all that's happening with mum...
@77tes love the pickled veggies idea I'll have to find a farmers market close by xo

Everyone is doing so great. @Michieb125 Appreciated the article. This sings so true. The line that struck me the most are the 5 people you are with the most has the biggest influence. Yikes! I need to think about my environment and the cues that get laid out. @77tes I love the example of your daughter's mobility training. Prep is everything. Yesterday my brother had hip surgery. The operation was done with about 10:30. It took until 6:30 to have a room available. There were 5 families still waiting. This is a new hospital in our area. They said this is an everyday issue. It must be so frustrating for the nurses trying to take care of these patients with the room shortages. The good news is my sister-in-law started driving again so I won't have to take her to dialysis 3 times a week. She lives about 35 minutes from me. So this saved me 15 hours a week for the next two weeks. I don't mind helping out, but it all adds up. I am about to go do something fun to stretch out my back from all that sitting. Enjoy your day.

@donna25trinity , yes, we’re fortunate to have a really great farmers market nearby. I could learn to do my own pickling like my grandma did, but that isn’t going to happen. 😂
@Learningmoments , those hours of waiting are so hard, and staffing shortages really make everyone’s days harder and more stressful. I was surprised by how many nurses travel, taking short term assignments all over the map to fill in those gaps.I hope your brother’s recovery goes smoothly. Hooray for more time. 15 hours in the course of 2 weeks is so much! Helping folks out is so kind of you, but getting relief is also important.
The rain held off for a few hours so that I could workout with my Curves friends at the park. Yay, 😁 Then it was pouring again by the time I got done with my errands.

Overall a good day I am pleased with the hospice care my mom is receiving it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Still not much exercise, I have kept up with meditation some gentle stretching but now waiting for results of hip X-ray I am thankful to be here with minimal injuries but it sure has put a dent 😂 in my daily exercise!

@snowshoe072 , hope you get a good report from that X-ray. I’m praying for you. Those hospice folks are such a blessing. I’m glad you’re getting their help.
@TerriRichardson112 , Bravo on those crunches! 👏You inspired me to add crunches to my lifting routine.
Since tomorrow is my birthday, my husband and I took advantage of some lovely breezy weather and visited a local botanical garden. The camellias have just started blooming, and they are favorites! That’s how I got my walk in. After lunchtime, I got my lifting routine done. That’s 2 for the week 🏋️🏋️!

@77tes A good report will just need some adjustments to how I do things 😊

Happy Birthday tomorrow @77tes and I can't think of a better way to spend it than a walk at a botanical garden.
@snowshoe072 glad you have a good report and can manage. a win for sure! Glad hospice care is helping also. They were a godsend for my Mom and I wish we had thought to do that with my Dad who passed before her. And even with my Mom it was my brother and I asking for it and not the Drs advising. They were all about more procedures..

Happy Birthday tomorrow @77tes A walk in the Botanical Garden sounds wonderful. We had our first frost this morning. Just -2C, but noticeable lowere than usual for November. There is an amber warning for snow on high ground tonight, but we live by the coast, so it will likely just be frost again.

@77tes Happy Birthday early! Glad you had a wonderful time at the Botanicals. The Camellias are beautiful. Great job on walking & lifting.
@snowshoe072 So glad the x-ray came back well. Hospice is fabulous. You need the help.
@TerriRichardson112 Great job on core exercises. I love your SWSY. Burrr! I don't do well in the cold. Glad you only get a frost.
Yesterday I was so tired. It really surprised me. Today I got a bike ride in. Slow and easy, but done! I also put on several meats in the oven. Ready for tomorrow & the weekend.

Wonderful birthday ! Got in a walk with DD#2 and Lucy. Then DD#1 took me out for brunch. I chose a breakfast quesadilla, which was delicious and enormous. After that DD#2 took me to see Wicked for Good while DD#1 babysat Lucy and DH.🤩NSVs - I pulled out a shirt that has been too tight for 5 years, and it fit. 👏
I also ordered my favorite workout pants in a smaller size and they fit! 🙌

Third lifting routine of the week done 🏋️🏋️🏋️! We also got a walk in after the rain cleared. Wow! Facebook is trying hard to lure me back. I was on a bit for my birthday, and now they are sending me random notifications of weeks old posts and comments.

@77tes Wishing you a very Happy belated Birthday! I hope you felt celebrated! And, I so admire your dedication to your exercise habits in this busy month.
Thinking of you @snowshoe072 during this time, and glad your x-ray turned out maybe a little better than expected.
Love your tracker @hcoleman232 - you had a great run!
@Learningmoments - good work getting all those crunches in!
Finally am over a fairly long cold/cough now - thankful I can get back to prioritizing my healthy activities now.
I think I’m going to bundle up and get my walk in early today. I just looked at the weather forecast here - no rain for at least 10 days! That means no excuses for not getting out and hitting my walking goals which also always boosts my mental state!1 -
@Learningmoments , when you feel that tired, something is going on. Glad you got in a bike ride. 👏
@TerriRichardson112 , brrr 🥶 that is cold. We Angelenos are such weather whimps and bundle up when the temps get below 60°F. 😂
@hcoleman232 , Bravo 👏👏 on improving your running.
