In the past I always shared with anyone and everyone, that I'm trying to loose weight. And every time I didn't succeed I was always mad at myself that I shared it!! So this time, only 3 people know (other that my MFP friends) My husband and daughter and my sister, (who is also trying to get fit) I think this is the better way to do it. That way I don't feel like people are looking at me thinking "its not working" lol :)

Why not. . You do what works for you. . I find for me though that having the people around me know can help to hold me accountable.. I can understand the way you are choosing to handle it though. . in just having a couple people know aside from here. . Good idea. . I wish you much success!:flowerforyou:

Thank you!!! I really am getting so much support from MFP that, that's all I need right now!! I'm sure as people and family see my results I will have to let them in on my secret :)

I haven't mentioned it to anyone outside my family and MFP. Somehow it is more gratifying when people say "hey, have you lost weight?". You know they aren't just being polite 'cause they know you are trying to!
  • I have done the same thing. Only a small, select group of friends know about my efforts. When people begin to notice, I might say more, but for now, I'm doing it for me and that's all that matters. One week down, the rest of my life to go! :)

I haven't told anyone other than my family. I have had a few people approach me at work and say "wow, you're losing weight, you look good." I have also had a few people ask what I'm doing and I just say "I work out 6 days a week and watch what I eat." My main reason for getting healthier is because I'm on so much medication right now and I'm tired of it. I also want to live a longer. So far, my doctor has cut my medication dosage in half and she told me she is going to slowly wean me off of them.

I have had a lot of people state that I look great, that I look like I have lost weight, etc.. But I don't tell that I am on a diet, because that isn't what I consider myself doing. I am changing my life. My life! I want to do this, but also need to do this, not just diet, but my whole lifestyle. It is not just a diet to me, and that is how I look at it.

I know that I haven't been able to workout the past few months because of hernia surgery, so I am glad to know that I have not gained anything! NOTHING! I consider that an accomplishment, because I had to be sedimentary during the recovery time. I haven't been allow to physically do anything for three months. THAT SUCKS! Now, I am allowed to pick up my zumba classes and get back into doing more than just walking.

BUT, I am proud of not gaining. I know, I can look and see that for several month while recovering I wasn't logging my journal and/or exercising. BUT, I can still see progress in myself, because I didn't revert back to what I was doing. I didn't gain. I didn't gain in size either. Those lifestyle choices have been made so far as still working and progress is still going forward towards my goal.

My secret - you have to do this for you. Find what works for you and do it for you. Everyone is different and what works for one isn't another. Seek opinions, but ultimately, the choices are yours to make.

    ....

That is so true!! It is life, not a diet. It's about retraining your body to act healthfully.

I agree, I have done that numerous times and then when people ask me....I have to make some lame excuse of "falling off the wagon"...I think I will keep my mouth quiet this time too!

I'm keeping my weightloss quiet too. I'm just waiting for people to start noticing!

I feel I'm getting loads of support from everyone on this wonderful website.

I've kept quiet for the most part too, until people started noticing. And today I completely outed myself on Facebook, but I'm down 30lbs now and felt like shouting it from rooftops!! lol

Over the last couple of months people have asked me what my "secret" is for weight loss. As soon as I tell them it's exercise and and counting calories they lose interest. In today's society everyone wants a quick fix. What they don't get is, there is no such thing!
  • I have to keep quiet too...which is why this forum is a True Blessing!!!!
My husband, daughter, and best friend know because they are the ones who know i struggle with buttoning my jeans!! ...everyone else just wants to say "you do NOT need to lose weight!" ....so tired of that. I realize i dont have alot to lose, but why wait ? it only gets harder the more i gain! I need support and encouragement, not a lecture :)
Good Luck everyone...and thank you mfp!!

I haven't told anyone - not even my family. But I suspect they know because this site is in my Favourites and I've been here every day since I signed up. I don't tell anyone because I'm so afraid of failure, like this will be just another thing I've tried to lose weight but not succeeded yet again. If I don't tell anyone, then no one but me will know when my motivation and dedication give out on me.

I think part of my reason for not telling anyone in the beginning is because for the first time I am making changes for me! They all know now! ;)
  • I haven't made a big announcement either. My husband knows I'm trying to eat healthily, and I'm trying to exercise everyday, but I've been exercising for a long time, it was just time to add the healthy eating to my life. Now that I'm 40, the weight creeps on faster than before. : ( But for the most part, I wouldn't change anything. I'm loving the self-confidence that 40 has brought! I dieted before and made a huge thing of it. I think I drove everyone around me nuts because it was all I talked about. Not planning to go there again. I change my lifestyle to live longer...I don't live for the diet. Good luck everyone!
