i am sure catch1331 would know a lot more, but the NH white mountains have 4k footers, which means they have a peak of 4,000 feet or more. if you are interested, i found this link for you, which lists them. google for them and i am sure you will find tons of info.

makes me REALLY want to head up there and check these out. never been there personally, the closest i've been in that northeastern region is a bit of hiking in the adirondacks in ny while in college and have also spent a little time along the coast of maine, which is beautiful. i grew up in northern va so got a little bit of everywhere (what i love about the east coast!).
check out the "welcome" thread and i share a little bit more of how i got into hiking, etc. i am currently in middle tn and do most of my weekend hiking in the smokies. = )0 -
Everyone feel free to add me as a friend0

Hi Everyone! I started the Colorado Hikers group but can't seem to attract any serious hikers. I've been hiking my whole life. I used to live in Northern Virginia, so I did a lot of hiking in the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains. I have done a little hiking in West Virginia, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Alaska, California, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Montana. I'm hoping to make it to Las Vegas soon, but not to gamble or party. I hear there is great hiking in that region. Last Summer, I was still pretty out of shape, but I managed to climb two 14ers (mountains over 14,000ft). I have climbed 5 total in my life. I'm making it a personal goal to double this amount next summer. Also, I want to make it to the top of the same two I did last summer for some "after" pictures. I do try to get out for backpacking trips when I can. In September, I went on a 28mi backpacking trip and hiked 14 miles in one day, which is my longest distance covered in a day. I'm looking for some buddies who are avid hiker. Hiking is a year-round activity, so I think fair-weather/summer-only hikers are silly. Feel free to add me!0

I'd like to start to check off some of the 14ers in Colorado, but I'm not really sure where to start yet. Next summer, I'll probably try to catch at least a few.0

So glad you guys joined the group!
Joni, great to know another avid hiker! I grew up in Fairfax County outside of DC and miss it terribly. It is such an awesome place to live- close to mountains, ocean, and cultural centers. = ) The Blue Ridge Mountains are dear to my heart since I was there a lot as a kid.
Love Denver (and Boulder!) and would to join you for a hike...if I wasn't so many hundreds of miles away!0 -

I grew up in Winchester. I, also, have a special place in my heart for The Blue Ridge and The Shenandoah Valley. My parents used to take us hiking every weekend when we lived in Virginia. We moved to Colorado when I was in middle school because my parents fell in love with Denver after a vacation. I really hated hiking as a teen because that's how teenagers are. However, I got back into in during college. Colorado is amazing because I've lived here for 15 years, and I still have so much to see/explore!0 -
Have y'all got room for a left coast hiker here?0

Hi! My nickname is Dani... Thanks! So good to know on the 4k footers, lol. The one we hiked in NH was 3100 ft so I have not done any real tall ones, hehe. This one had a lot of steep ledge rock near the top- way challenging for me but I did it! There were 4 of us and we did the track up in 2 hrs then it took 2.5 to come down due to wet leaves in between the rocks and some wet rocks among the ledge rocks... A bit nerve-racking but baby steps, ha ha. I am so sore today!
Hiking in the Smoky Mts sounds so beautiful as I have driven thru them... And I agree, Maine is beautiful too!
Looking forward to reading some more stories...

Oh yeah! West coast is beautiful. Arizona has great hiking, also have really enjoyed New Mexico. Never actually been into California though or north to Oregon or Washington, but would LOVE to get the chance. Any suggestions for "must see" trails in your region?0 -
Really west over here Hawaii to be exact. I love hiking to waterfalls and secret pools, rain forests, up mountains... it's always an adventure.0

was that N Haverhill Black Mountain? Wasn't it great?0

Hi, actually that was Black Mountain in Maine - up near Acadia National Park - the trail started right near our cabin that we stayed in on the lake. We were about 40 driving min from Bar Harbor, which was also beautiful! Black Mt that day was tough for me - it was July and very hot/humid. The guys decided to pick the steep way up so that the trail down wouldn't be as steep and the humidity kicked my butt! But with little rests here and there I was able to do it... so beautiful. A bit disappointed at the summit, though because it is still tree covered! All that and not much of a view - LOL. At least Schoodic Mt was a different story - in Maine also, but open up at the top...0 -

Lots of "Black Mountains"! The one around here is pretty steep at the beginning and then gets a hair easier. My favorite mountain. Otherwise Mt Lafayette in NH, you can see it in the weight slider I have, is terrific. An hour away from me. Been to Acadia once, beautiful! But I need something above treeline. Wish I lived in the Rockies!0 -

Any part of the PCT is beautiful. Also I'm a huge fan of the Pasayten wilderness (the PCT conveniently runs through a corner of this).
I'm lucky in that there is amazing hiking less than 1 hour from my door. The Mount Baker Snoqualmie National Forest is amazing, and has a whole lot of trails which are well marked, mostly well maintained and easy access. No wonder the PNW is full of people who dress straight from REI!! Local day hikes - Wallace Falls, Headlee pass and of course Mt Rainier if you want a little challenge!!0 -

My hiking buddy and I were just talking about maybe taking a backpacking trip to explore some of Hawaii!! Any suggestions of must see areas, which island we should concentrate on etc? We were thinking of the big island, but are just in the most preliminary of planning stages right now.0
